A Century of War

by John V. Denson

“…The most accurate description of the twentieth century, I believe, is “The War and Welfare Century.” This century is the bloodiest in all history. More than 170 million people were killed by governments with 10 million being killed in World War I and 50 million killed in World II. In regard to the 50 million killed in World War II, it is significant that nearly 70 percent were innocent civilians, mainly as a result of the bombing of cities by Great Britain and America.

This number of 50 million deaths does not include the estimated 6 to 12 million Russians killed by Stalin before World War II, and the several million people he killed after the war ended when Roosevelt and Churchill delivered to him one-third of Europe as part of the settlement conferences. George Crocker’s excellent book Roosevelt’s Road to Russia describes the settlement conferences, such as Yalta, and shows how Roosevelt and Churchill enhanced communism in Russia and China through deliberate concessions which strengthened it drastically, while Nazism was being extinguished in Germany.

It is inconceivable to me that America could join with Stalin as an ally and promote World War II as “the good war,” against tyranny or totalitarianism. The war and American aid made Soviet Russia into a super military power which threatened America and the world for the next 45 years. It delivered China to the communists and made it a threat during this same period of time.

The horror of the twentieth century could hardly have been predicted in the nineteenth century, which saw the eighteenth century end with the American Revolution bringing about the creation of the first classical liberal government in the world. It was a government founded upon a blueprint in a written constitution, which allowed very few powers in the central government and protected individual liberties even from the vote of the majority. It provided for the ownership and protection of private property, free speech, freedom of religion, and basically a free-market economy with no direct taxes.

Both political factions united behind the first administration of President Washington to proclaim a foreign policy based upon non-interventionism and neutrality in the affairs of other nations, which remained the dominant political idea of America for over a hundred years.

These ideas of classical liberalism quickly spread to the Old World of Europe and at the end of the eighteenth century erupted into a different type of revolution in France, although a revolution in the name of liberty. The new ideal, however, adopted in the French Revolution was “equality” by force and it attempted to abolish all monarchy throughout Europe. The ideas of classical liberalism were twisted and distorted, but nevertheless were spread by force throughout Europe, thereby giving liberalism a bad name, especially in Germany; and this was accomplished by a conscripted French army.

The nineteenth century largely remained, in practice, a century of individual freedom, material progress, and relative peace, which allowed great developments in science, technology, and industry. However, the intellectual ferment toward the middle of the nineteenth century and thereafter was decidedly toward collectivism. In about 1850 the great classical liberal John Stuart Mill began to abandon these ideas and adopt socialism, as did most other intellectuals. After the brief Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71, Bismarck established the first welfare state while creating the nation of Germany by converting it from a confederation of states, just as Lincoln did in America. From this point up until World War I most German intellectuals began to glorify the state and collectivist ideas. They ignored one lone voice in Germany, a lyric poet by the name of Johann Christian Friedrich Hölderlin, who died in 1843. He stated, “What has made the State a hell on earth has been that man has tried to make it his heaven.” [1] Hegel and Fichte immediately come to mind. …”

“Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent Alliances, with any portion of the foreign world.

~George Washington, Farewell Address, September 19, 1796

“As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until wealth is aggregated into the hands of a few and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of the war.”

~Abraham Lincoln

“I can only say that while I have considered the preservation of the constitutional power of the General Government to be the foundation of our peace and safety at home and abroad, I yet believe that the maintenance of the rights and authority reserved to the states and to the people, not only essential to the adjustment and balance of the general system, but the safeguard to the continuance of a free government. I consider it as the chief source of stability to our political system, whereas the consolidation of the states into one vast republic, sure to be aggressive abroad and despotic at home, will be the certain precursor of that ruin which has overwhelmed all those that have preceded it.”

Florida Judge Rules Health Care Law Is Unconstitutional

Obamacare Declared Unconstitutional by Federal Judge

Judge uses Obama’s words against him

By Stephen Dinan

The Washington Times

“…Judge Vinson, a federal judge in the northern district of Florida, struck down the entire health care law as unconstitutional on Monday, though he is allowing the Obama administration to continue to implement and enforce it while the government appeals his ruling.

The footnote was attached to the most critical part of Judge Vinson‘s ruling, in which he said the “principal dispute” in the case was not whether Congress has the power to tackle health care, but whether it has the power to compel the purchase of insurance.

Judge Vinson used Mr. Obama‘s campaign words from an interview with CNN to show that there are other options that could fall within the Constitution — including then-candidate Obama‘s plan.

During the presidential campaign, one key difference between Mr. Obama and his chief opponent, then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, was Mrs. Clinton‘s plan required all Americans to purchase insurance, and Mr. Obama‘s did not.

In the heat of the primaries in 2008, New York Times columnist Paul Krugman predicted Mr. Obama‘s opposition to an individual mandate could come back to haunt him: “If Mr. Obama gets to the White House and tries to achieve universal coverage, he’ll find that it can’t be done without mandates — but if he tries to institute mandates, the enemies of reform will use his own words against him.”

Mr. Obama has since defended the constitutionality of the individual mandate, arguing it’s the linchpin of the program to bring in more customers, which is key to expanding the availability and affordability of insurance. …”

BREAKING: Federal judge rules Obamacare unconstitutional

“…The full text of the decision from Federal Judge Roger Vinson is not available yet, but according to reporters who’ve seen the decision, he’s ruled the entire Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act unconstitutional. The ruling favors of the 26 state attorney generals challenging the law. The judge ruled the individual mandate that requires all Americans to purchase health insurance invalid and, according to the decision, “because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire Act must be declared void.”

Happy Saint Valentine’s Day Massacre–Obama’s Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget of $4,000 Billion: Driving America Off The Cliff–Videos

Thelma & Louise

Stop Spending Our Future – The Crisis

After listening to President Obama’s State of the Union’s address last week I was curious as to the total Fiscal Federal Budget for Fiscal Year 2012 would be in terms of outlays, receipt and deficits.

At first I expected that the President would submit a budget between $3,700 billion to $4,000 billion.

For fiscal year 2011 President Obama budget estimated outlays at $3,834 billion, tax receipts at $2,567 billion and the deficit at $1,267 billion.

Table S-1. Budget Totals

(in billions of dollars)

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/tables.pdf

The more I thought about the various investments or “stimulus” spending the President proposed in this speech, I concluded the President would pull out all constraints and stops and propose a budget over $4,000 billion.

The reason is simple.

The Republican establishment is calling for a Fiscal Year 2008 level budget or about $3,000 billion in outlays.

The tea party, conservative and libertarian movements are all calling for massive cuts in Federal government spending, balanced budgets and no increase in the debt ceiling.

A balanced budget would require a $2,500 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2012 which is slightly above the level of  Fiscal Year 2005 outlays of $2,471 billion when tax receipts were $2,153 billion and the deficit was $318 billion.

A balance budget assumes tax receipts would be $2,500 billion for Fiscal Year 2012 which could be optimistic.

Historical Tables Budget of the U.S. Government

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/hist.pdf

President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget will most likely be $4,000 billion in outlays, $2,500 billion in receipts, and a deficit of $1,500 billion. However, he might fudge the tax receipts number and estimate it to be $3,000 billion with a deficit of $1,000 billion.

For Fiscal Year 2010 that ended on September 30, 2010, the actual outlays were $3,455 billion, actual receipts $2,161 billion and the deficit was $1,294 billion.

Monthly Treasury Statement of Receipts and Outlays of the United States Government

http://www.fms.treas.gov/mts/mts1210.pdf

One day after President Obama’s speech the Congressional Budget Office revised its estimate of the Fiscal Year 2011 Federal Budget to $1,500 billion.

Budget Deficit Projected to Grow to $1.5 trillion; Obama Pledges Spending Freeze

President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget will be dead on arrival when it reaches the House of Representatives.

President Obama’s state of the union address was really the launch of his 2012 run for a second term as president.

The American people will soon become aware of President Obama’s Valentine present of a $4,000 billion budget.

With the official unemployment rate remaining above 9% and the total unemployment rate running above 16% for the next 24 months, President Obama is now a lame duck one term president.

President Obama’s budget will be a Saint Valentine’s Day massacre of the Democratic Party.

The American people have stop listening to President Obama and the Democratic Party for the simple reason that they have ignored their primary concerns–high unemployment, out of control government spending and massive increases in the national debt.

St Valentine’s Day Massacre

May they rest in peace.

Ozymandias

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: `Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear —
“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.’

Rebellion in the Land of the Pharaohs

A man who places himself at the helm for three decades inevitably becomes the target of all the realm’s discontents.

By FOUAD AJAMI

“…Egypt had been the trendsetter in Arab politics, in its self-image the place where all things modern in Arab life—the cinema, radio, women’s emancipation, parliamentary life, mass politics, forced industrialization—had begun. The sight of Tunisians, hitherto a marginal people in the Arab consciousness, taking to the streets and deposing their tyrant, both shamed and emboldened the Egyptians. They had wearied of the large prison that Mr. Mubarak had constructed for them. A man who places himself at the helm for three decades inevitably, and justly, becomes the target of all the discontents in the realm.

Revolts of this kind are always a gamble on the unknown. At bottom, they are an attempt at self-purification, a society wishes to be done with the stain of submission to a dictator’s transgressions. Amid the tumult, what is so clear today is the hatred felt for the ruler and his immediate family. Reigns like Mr. Mubarak’s devour the green and the dry, as a favored Arab expression has it. The sycophants come to the fore and steal what they can. Those with heart and character and pride are hauled off to prison, or banished to the outer margins of public life.

Mr. Mubarak has been merciless with his critics. For this isolated, aging man of the barracks, dissent is always treason. There remains, of course, the Muslim Brotherhood. It was in Egypt where the Muslim Brotherhood was born in the late 1920s. The Brotherhood has been the alibi and the bogeyman with which Hosni Mubarak frightened the middle class at home and the donors abroad in Washington and Europe, who prop his regime out of fear that Egypt would come apart and the zealots would triumph. …”

Egypt Opposition Calls For 1 Million On Streets

By MAGGIE MICHAEL and HAMZA HENDAWI

“…A coalition of opposition groups called for a million people to take to Cairo’s streets Tuesday to ratchet up pressure for President Hosni Mubarak to leave.

American and other world leaders were also ramping up pressure for an orderly transition to a democratic system.

The coalition of groups, dominated by youth movements but including the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood, said it wants the march from Tahrir, or Liberation Square, to force Mubarak to step down by Friday.

Spokesmen for several of the groups said their representatives were meeting Monday afternoon to develop a unified strategy for ousting Mubarak. The committee will also discuss whether Nobel Peace laureate Mohamed ElBaradei will be named as a spokesman for the protesters, they said. ElBaradei, a pro-democracy advocate and former head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, invigorated anti-Mubarak feeling with his return to Egypt last year.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which wants to form an Islamist state in the Arab world’s largest nation, said it would not take a leadership role. Western governments and many secular Egyptians have expressed fears about a significant Brotherhood role in Egyptian politics.

“We don’t want to harm this revolution,” said Mohamed Mahdi Akef, a former leader of the Brotherhood.

The groups also called for a general strike Monday, although much of Cairo remained shut down, with government officers and private businesses closed.

“We don’t want life to go back to normal until Mubarak leaves. We want people to stay away from their jobs until he leaves,” Israa Abdel-Fattah, one of the protest organizers and one of the founders of April 6 group, a grassroots movement of young people that has been pushing for democratic reform since 2008.

Banks, schools and the stock market were shut for the second working day. Long lines formed outside bakeries as people tried to replenish their stores of bread, the main source of sustenance for most Egyptians. …”

The Republican establishment better start paying attention and getting a clue as to what the tea party movement wants.

Once the American people have the FairTax, they will not want to go back to a Federal Income Tax and vote against any politician who even tries.

Pass the FairTax then repeal the income tax 16th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Waiting for the repeal of the 16th Amendment is similiar to waiting for passage of the balanced budget Constitutional amendment before balancing the budget.

I have completely lost patience with either political party to balance budget or reform the Federal income tax code with a flat tax.

Both political parties are just stalling and lying about what they are actually doing.

Forget about the flat tax and pass and implement the FairTax now!

Otherwise the tea party movement will find candidates that not only talk the talk but walk the walk.

The Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget will either be balanced and the FairTax passed and implemented for 2012 or both political parties will pay in upcoming elections in 2012, 2014 and beyond.

The Science of Success: Lessons from my Father – Charles G. Koch

Charles de Ganahl Koch

“…Charles de Ganahl Koch (pronounced /ˈkoʊk/; born November 1, 1935) is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Koch Industries, Inc.[3] Koch and his brother David built the family business into the second largest privately held company by revenue in the United States, and as of 2010 his personal worth was about $21.5 billion. His strategy for running a business, Market Based Management (MBM), is described in his 2007 book The Science of Success, which promotes long-term planning for success even at the expense of short-term gains. Koch is a libertarian and his philanthropy includes co-founding the Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, and the Mercatus Center. …”

“…Views

Koch’s views are described as libertarian. He told the National Journal that his “overall concept is to minimize the role of government and to maximize the role of private economy and to maximize personal freedoms.”[13] Today, he worries about too much governmental regulation, writing, “We could be facing the greatest loss of liberty and prosperity since the 1930s.”[14]

Philosophically Koch owes “a huge debt of gratitude to the giants who created the Austrian School” of economics.[7] Koch was especially impressed by Ludwig von Mises’ Human Action, and sought to apply its ideas to his business practices early in his career.[15] Other influences on Koch include F.A. Hayek, Alexis de Tocqueville[16], Adam Smith, Michael Polanyi,[7] Joseph Schumpeter, Julian Simon, Paul Johnson, Thomas Sowell, Charles Murray, Leonard Read, and F.A. Harper.[8] Brian Doherty, author of Radicals for Capitalism, and an editor of Reason, stated Robert LeFevre was an anarchist (autarchist) figure who won Koch’s approval.[17]

To Koch, “the short-term infatuation with quarterly earnings on Wall Street restricts the earnings potential of Fortune 500 publicly traded firms”.[8] Koch also considers public firms to be “feeding grounds for lawyers and lawsuits”, with regulation like Sarbanes–Oxley only increasing the earnings potential of private firms.[8]

In an interview article for the Wall Street Journal, Stephen Moore writes “Charles Koch—no surprise—disdains government and the political class.”[8] Koch thinks the billionaires Warren Buffett and George Soros, who fund organizations with different ideologies, “simply haven’t been sufficiently exposed to the ideas of liberty”.[8] Koch thinks “prosperity is under attack” by the Obama administration and “warns of policies that ‘threaten to erode our economic freedom and transfer vast sums of money to the state'”.[18]

Koch was careful to make clear that while he often disagrees with political decisions, Koch Industries does not try to skirt them. He writes in The Science of Success that in light of increased regulation,

We needed to be uncompromising [with our workforce], to expect 100 percent of our employees to comply 100 percent of the time with complex and ever-changing government mandates. Striving to comply with every law does not mean agreeing with every law. But, even when faced with laws we think are counter-productive, we must first comply. Only then, from a credible position, can we enter into a dialogue with regulatory agencies to demonstrate alternatives that are more beneficial. If these efforts fail, we can then join with others in using education and/or political efforts to change the law.[19]

Senator Rand Paul’s $500 Billion Spending Cuts Are Only One Third of The $1,500 Billion Needed To Balance The Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget!–Videos

Senator Rand Paul is correct.

To balance the Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget requires spending cuts of about $1,500 billion assuming President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2012 Budget is about $4,000 billion and tax receipts and outlays are $2,500 billion.

Federal tax receipts for Fiscal Year 2012 will be between $2,000 to $2,500 billion.

President Obama will most likely propose a Fiscal Year 2012 budget of approximately $3,800 billion to $4,000 billion.

President Obama’s is expected to submit his Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget on or about Monday, February 14, 2011.

The only way to get to a balanced budget in Fiscal Year 2012 is to permanently close or eliminate Federal Departments and agencies and cut entitlement spending including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and welfare programs.

Neither political party has the leadership, vision, will or courage to do this.

The tea party movement candidates will be replacing both Democratic and Republican Senators and Representative who do not vote for a balanced budget in Fiscal Year 2012 in 2013.

The tea party movement is watching closely both the Democratic and Republican Party establishments.

A detailed look at the Rand Paul spending bill

“…Want to save $500 billion this year? Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., has a way to do it.

Is it realistic? Maybe not every part of it, but have a look below and judge for yourself. I don’t think his total removal of rental subsidies is unreasonable — the fact that Section 8 is a total failure doesn’t justify dumping its beneficiaries  into oblivion. But there’s also no reason every agency has to see its budget increase every year, and a lot of these cuts really do make sense. Most of them simply represent a return to 2008 levels of spending — remember that a 30 percent cut is less than it seems when an agency’s budget been increasing by 40 percent over the last few years.

Why fund NASA at traditional levels if President Obama has scaled back its mission? Why not let Indian tribes manage their own trust funds, especially considering the federal mismanagement? Why not realign our  military bases abroad, sell unused federal buildings (something Obama has already begun doing), transfer some national parks to the states, and end the wasteful corporate subsidies that come out of the Departments of Energy and Commerce?

Of course, even this bill would only cut this year’s record deficit by one-third. But if you can bring discretionary spending down a notch with something like it, then cut Defense further as the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq wind down, you’ve gotten to the point where you can look Americans in the eye and tell them you’ve done everything you can, and it’s time to do something about Social Security and Medicare to save the nation from long-term financial collapse.

WikiLeaks rival launches new secret-spilling site

The Associated Press

Friday, Jan. 28, 2011

“…A former member of the group that created WikiLeaks has launched a rival website with the aim of giving whistleblowers more control over the secrets they spill.

Daniel Domscheit-Berg says the new platform called OpenLeaks will allow sources to choose specifically who they want to submit documents to anonymously, such as to a particular news outlet.

He told reporters Friday that the site will begin testing in several weeks and hopes it will be fully operational later this year.

Domscheit-Berg says the site has no funding for now but will be fully transparent with any money it receives. …”

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/jan/28/eu-davos-forum-openleaks/

(Reuters) – All across Europe, from Brussels to the Balkans, a new generation of WikiLeaks-style websites is sprouting.Like their forerunner, the fledgling whistle-blowing sites are a chaotic mixture of complex systems engineering, earnest campaigning, muckraking and self-promotion.

And though their goals are varied, the activists behind the sites told Reuters that they share one major concern: they all vow not to repeat mistakes they believe were made by Julian Assange, the controversial WikiLeaks creator.

The proliferation of websites to encourage, facilitate and shelter leakers is so anarchic that two aspiring anti-corporate leak sites are both claiming rights to the rubric “GreenLeaks” and muttering about legal consequences if the other side doesn’t back down.

The most closely watched rollout in the leak-hosting world was the launch on Thursday of OpenLeaks.org, a site whose principal creator, German transparency activist Daniel Domscheit-Berg, was once Assange’s closest collaborator. …”

Demint: Libertarians Don’t Exist!

“Senator Jim Demint argued you can’t have a message about small government and fiscal responsibility without it being inextricably linked to religion. That if you want Government to be small, God needs to be big. Reason’s Michael Moynihan explains that Demint is fearful of libertarians and is pushing his religious values on everyone else.”

Senate Debates Spending Bill

I am a classical liberal or libertarian and supporter of the conservative and tea party movements and its candidates as well as the FairTax, pro-life movement, and ending the Fed and nation building abroad.

I basically oppose most Federal government intervention into the economy domestically and nation building abroad.

I want a Constitutional government that is limited in size and scope.

I want balanced or surplus budgets that pay down the national debt down.

I am definitely a fiscal conservative, but I have never been nor consider myself to be a social conservative or part of the religious right.

However, I do consider  myself to be a traditional conservative.

Nor for that matter do I consider myself to be a neo-conservative or paleoconservative.

In fact I find it insulting as do many classical liberals when they are called either neo-conservative or paleconservative.

Yes I do belive in God and I am pro-life, but I identify my political philosophy as libertarian or classical liberal.

When it comes to fiscal responsibility and limiting the size and scope of the Federal Government I could not agree more with Senator DeMint and the conservative and tea party movements.

However, when Senator DeMint tries to marginalize libertarians, I must speak out.

Please Senator stop trying to marginalize the role of libertarians or classical liberals by saying you cannot be a fiscal conservative without being a social conservative.

It is false to say that if you want to limit the size and scope of limited government you must be a believer in God and follower of a religion or a social conservative.

This is simply not true

You are not doing yourself any good when you do.

I do not think I need to remind you that both Ron Paul and Rand Paul are libertarians and classical liberals.

So to are many independents, Republicans and even some Democrats.

They are all your natural allies.

While many if not most libertarians or classical liberals believe in God and are pro-life, some do not.

Libertarianism in the United States

“..Libertarianism in the United States is a movement promoting limited government and individual liberties.[1] Although libertarianism exists in two major forms worldwide, right-libertarianism and left-libertarianism,[2] right-leaning libertarianism tends to be the dominant form in the United States. The right-leaning Libertarian Party, the third largest political party in the United States[3] as of 2008 with 235,500 registered voters,[citation needed] asserts the following to be core beliefs of Libertarianism:

Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.[4][5] …”

“…History

In the 1950s many with classical liberal beliefs in the United States began to describe themselves as “libertarian.”[6] Academics as well as proponents of the free market perspectives note that free-market libertarianism has been successfully propagated beyond the US since the 1970s via think tanks and political parties[7][8] and that libertarianism is increasingly viewed worldwide as a free market position.[9][10] However, Libertarian socialists Noam Chomsky, Colin Ward and others argue that the term “libertarianism” is globally considered a synonym for anarchism and that the United States is unique in widely associating it with free market ideology.[11][12][13]

Arizona United States Senator Barry Goldwater’s libertarian-oriented challenge to authority had a major impact on the libertarian movement,[14] through his book The Conscience of a Conservative and his run for president in 1964.[15] Goldwater’s speech writer, Karl Hess, became a leading libertarian writer and activist.[16]

The Vietnam War split the uneasy alliance between growing numbers of self-identified libertarians, anarchist libertarians, and more traditional conservatives who believed in limiting liberty to uphold moral virtues. Libertarians opposed to the war joined the draft resistance and peace movements and organisations such as Students for a Democratic Society. They began founding their own publications, like Murray Rothbard’s The Libertarian Forum[17][18] and organizations like the Radical Libertarian Alliance.[19]

The split was aggravated at the 1969 Young Americans for Freedom convention, when more than 300 libertarians organized to take control of the organization from conservatives. The burning of a draft card in protest to a conservative proposal against draft resistance sparked physical confrontations among convention attendees, a walkout by a large number of libertarians, the creation of libertarian organizations like the Society for Individual Liberty, and efforts to recruit potential libertarians from conservative organizations.[20] The split was finalized in 1971 when conservative leader William F. Buckley, Jr., in a 1971 New York Times article, attempted to divorce libertarianism from the freedom movement. He wrote: “The ideological licentiousness that rages through America today makes anarchy attractive to the simple-minded. Even to the ingeniously simple-minded.”[21]

In 1971, David Nolan and a few friends formed the Libertarian Party.[22] Attracting former Democrats, Republicans and independents, it has run a presidential candidate every election year since 1972. By 2006, polls showed that 15 percent of American voters identified themselves as libertarian.[23] Over the years, dozens of libertarian political parties have been formed worldwide. Educational organizations like the Center for Libertarian Studies and the Cato Institute were formed in the 1970s, and others have been created since then.[24]

Philosophical libertarianism gained a significant measure of recognition in academia with the publication of Harvard University professor Robert Nozick’s Anarchy, State, and Utopia in 1974. The book won a National Book Award in 1975.[25] According to libertarian essayist Roy Childs, “Nozick’s Anarchy, State, and Utopia single-handedly established the legitimacy of libertarianism as a political theory in the world of academia.”[26]

Texas congressman Ron Paul’s campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination was largely oriented towards libertarianism. Paul is affiliated with the libertarian-leaning Republican Liberty Caucus and founded the Campaign for Liberty, a libertarian-leaning membership and lobbying organization.

Organizations

Well-known libertarian organizations include the Center for Libertarian Studies, the Cato Institute, the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), the International Society for Individual Liberty (ISIL) and the Ludwig von Mises Institute. The Libertarian Party of the United States is the world’s first such party.

The activist Free State Project, formed in 2001, works to bring 20,000 libertarians to the state of New Hampshire to influence state policy. In March 2009, the project website showed that more than 650 were resident there and more than 9,150 had pledged to move there.[27] Less successful similar projects include the Free West Alliance and Free State Wyoming.

Leaders

Politicians

United States Congressman Ron Paul, United States Senator Barry Goldwater, and United States President Ronald Reagan popularized libertarian economics and anti-statist rhetoric in the United States and passed some reforms, though many libertarians are ambivalent about his legacy.[28]

Citizens

Individual influential to libertarianism in the United States include Ayn Rand, Ludwig Von Mises, William F. Buckley, Murray Rothbard, and Milton Friedman.  …”

“…This week, pundit, strategist and author Dick Morris received the Center for Security Policy’s Mightier Pen Award. The Mightier Pen Award was inaugurated in 2001 in recognition of individuals who have, through their published writings, contributed both to the public appreciation of the need for robust U.S. national security policies and the perpetuation of military strength as indispensable ingredients in international peace. Previous awardees have included Norman Podhoretz (2009), Andrew C. McCarthy (2008), Mark Steyn (2007), William F. Buckley, Jr. (2004), Charles Krauthammer (2002), and Mark Helprin (2001).

Though primarily known for his outspoken views on domestic policy and electoral politics, each of Dick Morris’ many best-sellers deal deal with America’s national security concerns and threats to the homeland. In his comments– and the informal Q&A that followed– Morris spoke about Obama’s weakness on the world stage, Shariah law in the US, the 2012 GOP Presidential contenders, gave a tour of the tide of domestic politics, did a Winston Churchill impression, and more. …”

Rand Paul (01.25.11 – Senatorial Update)

The tea party movement wants a Constitutional limited Federal government, both in size and scope.

The tea party movement wants Federal Government spending or outlays to be cut so they equal tax receipts–a balanced budget starting in Fiscal Year 2012.

This means that Federal spending will need to be cut by over $1,000 billion to about $2,500 billion.

President Obama would freeze Federal Government spending at about $3,800 billion dollars resulting in another year of over $1,200 billion in deficit spending and another $1,200 billion increase in the national debt.

The Republican Party wants to cut Federal Government spending or outlays to Fiscal Year 2008 levels of about $3,000 billion.

Keep in mind that in Fiscal Year 2008 the tax receipts were $2,524 billion, outlays were $2,982 billion and the deficit was $458 billion

To get to a balanced budget the Federal outlays would need to be about $2,500 billion or slightly above the Federal budget outlays for Fiscal Year 2005 of $2,472 billion.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2011/assets/hist.pdf

President Obama’s Office of Management and Budget estimated Fiscal Year 2012 tax receipts to be $2,926 billion.

Unfortunately Federal tax receipts for Fiscal Year 2012 are estimated to be $2,500 billion or less due to the continuing economic recession and high rates of unemployment.

As a result both Federal Individual Income and Social Security tax receipts are running much lower than originally estimated.

In other words the Republicans would need to cut outlays to Fiscal Year 2005 levels and not Fiscal Year 2008 to balance the budget .

Neither the Republican Party establishment nor Representative Paul Ryan’s road map does this.

The only people in the House of Representative that would seriously do this is Representative Ron Paul and the recently elected tea party movement Republicans numbering less than sixty in the House of Representatives and Senate including Michele Bachmann and Senator Rand Paul.

Both the Democratic and Republican Party establishments will not cut spending to balance the budget in Fiscal year 2012 or for that matter the next five years.

Keep in mind that total Federal tax receipts for Fiscal Year 2010 were $2,161 billion, outlays were $3,455 billion and the Federal deficit was $1,291 billion.

For the first three months of Fiscal Year 2011, Federal tax receipts were $ 531 billion, outlays were $ 902 billion and the Federal deficit was $370 billion.

These numbers are from the Department of Treasury:

Table 1. Summary of Receipts, Outlays, and the Deficit/Surplus of the U.S. Government, Fiscal Years 2010 and 2011, by Month

http://www.fms.treas.gov/mts/mts1210.pdf

In other words for the current Fiscal Year 2011 budget that the Democratic Party never passed will result in a budget deficit of over $1,500 billion!

In just three years President Obama and the Democratic Party would have run up deficits totalling over $4,000 billion.

Both President Obama and the Democratic Party simply have no credibility, competence or desire in balancing the Federal budget.

President Obama statement in his State of the Union address that:

“So tonight, I am proposing that starting this year, we freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years. (Applause.) Now, this would reduce the deficit by more than $400 billion over the next decade, …”

is beyond laughable.

President Obama’s statement is fiscally irresponsible and dangerous.

President Obama is an empty suit that is wrecking the economy, destroying jobs and destroying the American Dream.

You Want How Much?!

Whatever President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2012 proposed budget is and I suspect it will exceed $3,700 billion with an estimated deficit of over $1,000 billion, it will be dead on arrival when it reaches Congress in mid-February.

The only way to cut over $1,000 billion in Federal expenditures or outlays for the Fiscal Year 2012 budget is to close entire Federal departments and agencies and cut drastically the budgets of the remaining departments and put both Social Security and Medicare on an actuarial sound basis.

Everything must be on the table and subject to cuts in spending and benefits including defense expenditures and entitlements such as Social Security and Medicare.

Obama Care must and will be repealed in its entirety within three years if not sooner.

For now Congress should not fund one cent for Obama Care, it is a major budget buster besides being unconstitutional.

Neither political party has the leadership, vision, will or courage to do this.

When President Obama says targeted investments what he means is yet another round of political payoff to his supporters in the form of increased Federal spending.

Both President Obama and the Democratic Party have been responsible for the destroying jobs and wrecking the economy with their failed stimulus package and Obama Care.

In just two years over $3,000 billion was added to the National Debt and for over 20 months the official unemployment rate (U-3) has been over 9% and the total real unemployment rate (U-6) had been over 16%.

The stimulus package simply did not keep the official unemployment under 8% or less as promised.

The stimulus package was a failure in creating jobs.

More government spending or investment will have the same result.

Both political parties are fiscally irresponsible.

The American people want balanced budgets every year.

The American people are tired of being mislead and lied to by both political parties.

The American people want fiscally responsible government, one that lives within it means or tax receipts–balanced budgets.

The American people want tax reform–the FairTax.

Neither political party will balance the budget nor pass the FairTax.

The American people are ahead of the political establishment, ruling class and political media pundits in Washington, D.C.

I fully expect that the Fiscal Year 2012 budget proposed by President Obama will exceed $3,700 billion and the Republican Party’s budget will exceed $3,000 billion.

I fully expect that Federal tax receipts for the next two years will be $2,500 billion or less.

I fully expect that the Federal deficits will be over $1,500 billion in Fiscal Year 2011 and over $700 billion in 2012.

I fully expect that Congress will increase yet again the ceiling on the National Debt by another $1,000 billion in 2011 to over $15,300 billion and another $1,000 billion in 2012 to over $16,300 billion.

I fully expect that the official unemployment rate or U-3 will be between 9% and 11% for the next 24 months.

If the economy starts to recover the result will be an increase in the labor participation rate to a range of 66% to 67% and an increase in those in the labor force.

Therefore the official unemployment rate as measured by U-3 will go over 10% and may be 11% and the total real unemployment rate as measured by U-6 will go over 17% and may be 18% later this year or early next year.

When this happens those politicians who have refused to face the reality and consequences of these massive deficits by cutting Federal Government spending will be voted out of office.

Until the tea party movement elects a majority in the House and Senate and a new President and replaces the big spender warfare and welfare progressives and government interventionists in both parties, the economy will stagnate with high unemployment rates and increasing inflation rates.

For the next two years the official unemployment rates (U-3) will be above 9% with over 15 million Americans unemployed and the real total unemployment rates (U-6) will be above 16% and over 25 million Americans seeking full-time employment.

The time has come for the tea party movement to either takeover the Republican party or establish another political party.

The current leadership of both political parties simply does not have the vision, will, and courage to balance the budget every year and reform the Federal tax system.

The current leadership of the Republican party must balance the Fiscal Year 2012, 2013 and 2014 budgets and pass the FairTax if they want the support of the tea party movement.

Dan Mitchel with Cavuto if the Republicans won’t cut spending run them out of town

If they fail to do so the current Republican leadership will be replaced by tea party movement leaders who will “walk the talk” and cut spending to balanced budget levels and pass the FairTax.

Until then demand that your representative and Senators have a Fiscal Year 2012 budget of $2,500 billion, freeze outlays or spending at $2,500 billion for five years to pay down the national debt and pass the FairTax!

Then go forward with a balanced budget amendment and repeal of the income tax 16th amendment to the United States Constitution.

The time has come to replace the current warfare and welfare economy and government with a peace and prosperity economy and constitutional government.

Join the Second American Revolution and support the tea party movement.

I will only vote for candidates that will balance the budget and pass the FairTax.

It is about time both were accomplished.

Text of Obama’s State of the Union Address

“…All these investments -– in innovation, education, and infrastructure –- will make America a better place to do business and create jobs. But to help our companies compete, we also have to knock down barriers that stand in the way of their success.

For example, over the years, a parade of lobbyists has rigged the tax code to benefit particular companies and industries. Those with accountants or lawyers to work the system can end up paying no taxes at all. But all the rest are hit with one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world. It makes no sense, and it has to change. (Applause.)

So tonight, I’m asking Democrats and Republicans to simplify the system. Get rid of the loopholes. Level the playing field. And use the savings to lower the corporate tax rate for the first time in 25 years –- without adding to our deficit. It can be done. (Applause.) …”

“…We are living with a legacy of deficit spending that began almost a decade ago. And in the wake of the financial crisis, some of that was necessary to keep credit flowing, save jobs, and put money in people’s pockets.

But now that the worst of the recession is over, we have to confront the fact that our government spends more than it takes in. That is not sustainable. Every day, families sacrifice to live within their means. They deserve a government that does the same.

So tonight, I am proposing that starting this year, we freeze annual domestic spending for the next five years. (Applause.) Now, this would reduce the deficit by more than $400 billion over the next decade, and will bring discretionary spending to the lowest share of our economy since Dwight Eisenhower was President.

This freeze will require painful cuts. Already, we’ve frozen the salaries of hardworking federal employees for the next two years. I’ve proposed cuts to things I care deeply about, like community action programs. The Secretary of Defense has also agreed to cut tens of billions of dollars in spending that he and his generals believe our military can do without. (Applause.)

I recognize that some in this chamber have already proposed deeper cuts, and I’m willing to eliminate whatever we can honestly afford to do without. But let’s make sure that we’re not doing it on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens. (Applause.) And let’s make sure that what we’re cutting is really excess weight. Cutting the deficit by gutting our investments in innovation and education is like lightening an overloaded airplane by removing its engine. It may make you feel like you’re flying high at first, but it won’t take long before you feel the impact. (Laughter.)

Now, most of the cuts and savings I’ve proposed only address annual domestic spending, which represents a little more than 12 percent of our budget. To make further progress, we have to stop pretending that cutting this kind of spending alone will be enough. It won’t. (Applause.) …”

“…In fact, the best thing we could do on taxes for all Americans is to simplify the individual tax code. (Applause.) This will be a tough job, but members of both parties have expressed an interest in doing this, and I am prepared to join them. (Applause.)

So now is the time to act. Now is the time for both sides and both houses of Congress –- Democrats and Republicans -– to forge a principled compromise that gets the job done. If we make the hard choices now to rein in our deficits, we can make the investments we need to win the future.

Let me take this one step further. We shouldn’t just give our people a government that’s more affordable. We should give them a government that’s more competent and more efficient. We can’t win the future with a government of the past. (Applause.) …”

America’s Best Days

68% Prefer A Government With Fewer Services, Lower Taxes

“…The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 68% of Likely Voters prefer a government with fewer services and lower taxes rather than a more active one with more services and higher taxes. This is virtually identical to last month and consistent with findings since September. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Since Rasmussen Reports began polling on the question in November 2006, support for a smaller government with fewer services and lower taxes has ranged from a low of 55% in July 2007 to a high of 70% in August 2009.

Twenty-two percent (22%) of voters say they prefer a government with more services and higher taxes, down three points from December. Support for a more activist government over the past four years has ranged from 19% in August 2009 to 32% in late July 2007.

Even a plurality of Democrats (47%) now favors a government with fewer services and lower taxes. But that finding is dwarfed by the 90% of Republicans and 67% of voters not affiliated with either political party who feel that way. …”

CHANGE 2010: Robert Steele, former CIA officer, discusses real-time and and open source intelligence

Robert David Steele Vivas

“…Robert David Steele Vivas (b. July 16, 1952 New York City), is known for his promotion of open source intelligence (OSINT).[1] He is a former United States Marine Corps infantry and intelligence officer for twenty years and was the second-ranking civilian (GS-14) in U.S. Marine Corps Intelligence from 1988–1992.[citation needed] Steele is a former clandestine services case officer with the Central Intelligence Agency.[2] He is the founder and CEO of OSS.Net as well as the Golden Candle Society. Steele also was a member of the Adjunct Faculty of Marine Corps University in the mid-1990s. …”

“…Career

He spent his early years, two decades, in Latin America and Asia as the son of an oil company executive. Steele has an BA in Political Science; an MA in International Relations; and an MPA in Public Administration. He resigned from the military in 1993.

He is commonly associated[citation needed] with the open source intelligence movement and coined the terms “virtual intelligence” and “information peacekeeping”. He argues that U.S. intelligence reform is needed, and that the private sector can perform a high percentage of U.S. open source intelligence needs and reduce cost to the U.S. government. He advocates “collective intelligence” or “the wisdom of the crowd” (what Howard Rheingold calls “smart mobs”) and for hackers as a national resource.

Steele, an international proponent of OSINT, argues that both reports, while recent, still ignore his decades of advocacy for a proper national focus on OSINT from 1988 to date. He further argues that the CIA has refused to take open source information seriously for decades, and should not be charged with developing new capabilities that are totally outside its existing culture of secrecy.[citation needed]

The World from The Hill: U.N. funding an early target for House Republicans

“…A key House Republican is quickly pressing forward with her goals to scale back U.S. funding for the United Nations.

Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told The Hill that oversight would be a key function of the panel, particularly funding to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) that is “a waste of taxpayer dollars.” …”

“…U.N. critics set to appear include Claudia Rossett, who unveiled the oil-for-food scandal in 2004 and 2005 in The Wall Street Journal; Brett Schaefer, who regularly takes on the U.N. at the conservative Heritage Foundation; and Hillel Neuer, executive director of Geneva-based UN Watch, which monitors the controversial HRC.

Neuer told The Hill that UN Watch is going to release new data at the briefing on how the HRC has been run since then-U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan dissolved the Human Rights Commission in 2006. Annan called the commission “politicized” at the time, but the commission’s replacement, the HRC, has attracted many critics as well.

“We will commend the efforts of the U.S. delegation here in Geneva, including [Ambassador] Eileen Donohoe” in briefing the Foreign Affairs Committee, Neuer said, saying the team is “working hard to minimize the damage of the council,” but is often in the minority to powerful, controversial members such as Libya, Cuba, China, Pakistan, Russia and Saudi Arabia.

“They’re the ones who run the shop,” he said, adding of Obama’s initiative to place a U.S. representative on the council with the intention of reforming from within that it was “naive for anyone to have thought it would change significantly.” …”

Progressive Radical Socialist Obama Allows Anti-American Song Played In The White House–Videos

“…Support for Chinese Nationalism and White House Performance of Chinese Propaganda Song

At the White House state dinner in honor of Chinese President Hu Jintao on January 19, Lang Lang played a famous anti-American Chinese propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.” The film depicts a group of “People’s Volunteer Army” soldiers who are first hemmed in at Shanganling (or Triangle Hill) and then, when reinforcements arrive, take up their rifles and counterattack the U.S. military “jackals.” The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades.

The name of the song is “My Motherland,” originally titled “Big River.” In an interview broadcast on Phoenix TV, the first thing Lang Lang is quoted as saying is that he chose the piece. He then said, “I thought to play ‘My Motherland’ because I think playing the tune at the White House banquet can help us, as Chinese people, feel extremely proud of ourselves and express our feelings through the song.” [33][34] …”

Lang Lang (朗朗) Plays at White House for Hu and Obama

Chinese Song – My motherland 我的祖國

movie clip from the well known anti-American movie “Battle of Triangle Hill”, same music played by Lang Lang in White House at the state dinner for Hu Jintaoon Jan. 19, 2011

My Motherland
Chorus

This is a great river, its waves are wide and calm
The wind blows through the rice flowers, bearing fragrance to either shore
My home is right there by the water
I am used to hearing the punters’ whistle
and seeing the white sails on the boats

Solo

This is a great river, its waves are wide and calm
The wind blows through the rice flowers, bearing fragrance to either shore
My home is right there by the water
I am used to hearing the punters’ whistle
and seeing the white sails on the boats

Chorus

This is the beautiful motherland
The place where I grew up
In this expansive stretch of land
Wonderful landscape can be seen everywhere

2.

Solo

Young ladies are like flowers
Young men have a big heart and grand visions
In order to construct a new realm
They have waked the sleeping mountains
And made the rivers change their appearance

Chorus

This is the motherland of heroes
The place where I grew up
In this stretch of ancient land
There is youthful vigour found everywhere

3.

Solo

Great mountains, great rivers and an amazing place
Every road is flat and wide
When friends are here, there is fine wine
But if the jackal comes
What greets it is the hunting rifle

Chorus

This is the strong motherland
The place where I grew up
On this stretch of warm and friendly land
The sunshine of peace is everywhere

Kate Smith introduces God Bless America

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home
God bless America, My home sweet home.
God Bless America – Celine Dion

Lang Lang (pianist)

“…Lang Lang (Chinese: 郎朗; pinyin: Láng Lǎng) (born June 14, 1982 in Shenyang, Liaoning, China) is a Chinese concert pianist, currently residing in New York. He is well known in Europe and North America for his concert appearances. …”

Lang Lang Gone Mad.

Chinese Pianist Plays Propaganda Tune at White House

US humiliated in eyes of Chinese by song used to inspire anti-Americanism

“…Lang Lang the pianist says he chose it. Chairman Hu Jintao recognized it as soon as he heard it. Patriotic Chinese Internet users were delighted as soon as they saw the videos online. Early morning TV viewers in China knew it would be played an hour or two beforehand. At the White House State dinner on Jan. 19, about six minutes into his set, Lang Lang began tapping out a famous anti-American propaganda melody from the Korean War: the theme song to the movie “Battle on Shangganling Mountain.”

The film depicts a group of “People’s Volunteer Army” soldiers who are first hemmed in at Shanganling (or Triangle Hill) and then, when reinforcements arrive, take up their rifles and counterattack the U.S. military “jackals.”

The movie and the tune are widely known among Chinese, and the song has been a leading piece of anti-American propaganda by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for decades. CCP propaganda has always referred to the Korean War as the “movement to resist America and help [North] Korea.” The message of the propaganda is that the United States is an enemy—in fighting in the Korean War the United States’ real goal was said to be to invade and conquer China. The victory at Triangle Hill was promoted as a victory over imperialists. …”

“…My Motherland” having been played at the White House will be seen as a propaganda triumph in China.

“In the eyes of all Chinese, this will not be seen as anything other than a big insult to the U.S.,” says Yang Jingduan, a Chinese psychiatrist now living in Philadelphia who had in China been a doctor in the Chinese military. “It’s like insulting you in your face and you don’t know it, it’s humiliating.”

Yang sees Lang Lang choosing this tune as an expression of the deeply anti-American propaganda that is constant in China.

“This deeply anti-American chauvinism has been fanned by the CCP for years; Lang Lang is expressing the feelings of this generation of angry young people,” Yang said.

A well-known example of such feelings was seen on Sept. 11, 2001, when Chinese chat rooms were filled with young people celebrating this act of terror as an American defeat.

Excited at this coup, patriotic Chinese have been circulating the clip for the last several days. One netizen wrote “the right place, right time, right song!”

The phrase “right place, right time, right song” echoes Chinese propaganda and is a declaration of victory over the United States. Chinese have been taught that the United States lost the Korean War. A U.S. general is quoted in the propaganda as describing the Korean War as being “the wrong war at the wrong time in the wrong place with the wrong enemy,” which is taken as an admission of defeat. In fact, the quote is from Gen. Omar N. Bradley testifying to Congress as to why the United States should not extend the Korean War into China.

Another Chinese commenting on a forum responded to the Lang Lang performance by writing, “Defeat America, defeat Obama” (writing Obama’s name with the wrong first character, one meaning “sunken” or “dented.”)

Others wrote comments like: “omg!”; “Didn’t they know?”; “Where was the U.S. foreign affairs?” and “Very good. My impression of Lang Lang has really changed.”

Battle On Shangganling Mountain
Obama is humiliated as China calls the tune.

by John Hayward

“…During the big White House state dinner for China last Wednesday, a Chinese pianist named Lang Lang was invited to serenade the assembled dignitaries.  One of the songs he played, unknown to Western audiences but instantly recognizable to the Chinese, was “My Motherland,” the theme from a movie called Battle On Shangganling Mountain.

Where’s Shangganling Mountain, you ask?  Why, it’s in Korea.  It was the site of a bloody battle, fought in late 1952 during the Korean War, in which Chinese forces repulsed a sustained attack from American and South Korean troops.  The movie whose theme Lang tickled out of those ivories is an anti-American propaganda film.  An article in the The Epoch Times points out that the lyrics to its theme song describe American soldiers as “jackals.”

Playing this song at a White House state dinner is the rough equivalent of an American president providing music from Rambo II during a state visit to Vietnam.  It’s impossible to imagine the current President doing anything like that, but you could almost see George Bush screening the entire movie for his hosts while waiting for the bun cha to be served.  “This here’s my favorite part, where the guy gets shot right in the chest with an exploding arrow.  POW! “ …”

“My Motherland”

“…”My Motherland” (simplified Chinese: 我的祖国; pinyin: Wǒ De Zǔ Guó) is a song written for the Chinese movie Battle on Shangganling Mountain (1956). Lyrics was written by Qiao Yu (乔羽). Music was composed by Liu Chi (刘炽). Both of them are well-known for a number of songs since 1950s. This is a very popular and famous patriotic song in China,[1] and the signature song for the famous operatic soprano Guo Lanying.

My Motherland” was called as “A Big River” (Chinese: 一条大河) by the author initially; it represented the hundreds of rivers that flowed by the homes of the Chinese people. The title was changed when it was published with movie.

Although the song was written for the movie about Korean War in 1950s, there is no mention of the war at all. It describes a soldier (or anyone who is away from home) thinking about his home and his family. Thus, this song is extremely popular even when the movie itself is almost forgotten.

The music for solo part has folk song styles similar to those in northern China. …”

God Bless America

“…America’s unofficial national anthem was composed by an immigrant who left his home in Siberia for America when he was only five years old. The original version of “God Bless America” was written by Irving Berlin (1888-1989) during the summer of 1918 at Camp Upton, located in Yaphank, Long Island, for his Ziegfeld-style revue, Yip, Yip, Yaphank. “Make her victorious on land and foam, God Bless America…” ran the original lyric. However, Berlin decided that the solemn tone of “God Bless America” was somewhat out of keeping with the more comedic elements of the show and the song was laid aside.

In the fall of 1938, as war was again threatening Europe, Berlin decided to write a “peace” song. He recalled his “God Bless America” from twenty years earlier and made some alterations to reflect the different state of the world. Singer Kate Smith introduced the revised “God Bless America” during her radio broadcast on Armistice Day, 1938. The song was an immediate sensation; the sheet music was in great demand. Berlin soon established the God Bless America Fund, dedicating the royalties to the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. …”
