Bill and Hillary Clinton: The Perfect Pair of Flip–Floppers

Posted on November 29, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Economics, Links, Politics, Quotations, Rants, Raves, Resources, Science, Taxes, Technology, Uncategorized, Video, War |

“ I was very careful to send Mr. Roosevelt every few days a statement of our casualties. I tried to keep before him all the time the casualty results because you get hardened to these things and you have to be very careful to keep them always in the forefront of your mind.”

~ General George C. Marshall

President Clinton was noted for using polls to determine not only his political positions but even the words and phrases used in his speeches to the American people.

Leadership by polls is not leadership but followship.

People’s perceptions and opinions change over time resulting in different poll results.

Now former President Bill Clinton is saying that he was against the Iraq war from the beginning.

Sticking one’s finger in the air to determine which way the wind is blowing is folly when applied to issues as important as war and peace.

The winds of war change as new strategies and commanders on the fields of battle are tried and tested.

Neither President Clinton nor Senator Clinton has military experience or the leadership qualities of a George C. Marshall.

Winston Churchill said of General Marshall:

“There are few men whose qualities of mind and character have impressed me so deeply as those of General Marshall. He is a great American but he is far more than that. In war he was as wise and understanding in counsel as he was resolute in action. In peace he was the architect who planned the restoration of our battered European economy and at the same time laboured tirelessly to establish a system of Western defense.”

George C. Marshall

The Nobel Peace Prize 1953

“…In his position as chief of staff, Marshall urged military readiness prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, later became responsible for the building, supplying, and, in part, the deploying of over eight million soldiers. From 1941 he was a member of the policy committee that supervised the atomic studies engaged in by American and British scientists. The war over, Marshall resigned in November, 1945.

But Marshall could not resign from public service; his military career ended, he took up a diplomatic career. He had been associated with diplomatic events while chief of staff, for he participated in the conference on the Atlantic Charter (1941-1942), and in those at Casablanca (1943), Quebec (1943), Cairo-Teheran (1943), Yalta (1945), Potsdam (1945), and in many others of lesser import. In late 1945 and in 1946, he represented President Truman on a special mission to China, then torn by civil war; in January, 1947, he accepted the Cabinet position of secretary of state, holding it for two years. In the spring of 1947 he outlined in a speech at Harvard University the plan of economic aid which history has named the “Marshall Plan”.

For one year during the Korean War General Marshall was secretary of defence, a civilian post in the U. S. Cabinet. Having resigned from this post in September, 1951, three months before his seventy-first birthday, he retired from public service, thereafter performing those ceremonial duties the public comes to expect of its famous men. …”

The American people deserve better than poll driven flip-floppers like the Clintons and so do our men and women serving in the Armed Forces of our nation in a time of war.

One can only hope that the next President of the United States will approach the achievements of General Marshall both in war and peace.

“…He brought the U.S. through two world wars from behind his desk where his strategic brilliance guided the nation to victory. His principles of honesty and truth gained the trust of millions of Americans and the respect of world leaders throughout his years of service. The Marshall Plan of 1948 rebuilt Europe after World War II, helped contain the spread of Communism, and laid the foundation for U.S. foreign policy today. After receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953, Marshall died in 1959 leaving a legacy that inspires today’s world leadership. …”

The American people are very tired of politicians of both political parties that are poll followers and flip-floppers.

The American people want a change for the better not a repeat of past Presidential scandals.

The American people want a leader with the experience and integrity of a George C. Marshall–not a flip-flopper.

“In a war unparalleled in magnitude and horror, millions of Americans gave their country outstanding service;

General of The Army George C. Marshall gave it victory.”

~President Harry S Truman

Flip-flop (politics)

“A “flip-flop” (used mostly in the United States) or a U-turn (used in the United Kingdom) is a sudden real or apparent change of policy or opinion, while trying to claim that both positions are consistent with each other. Usually it will occur during the period prior to an election in order to maximize the candidate’s popularity. …”

 Of Men and Materiel:

The Crisis in Defense Spending

“…Despite the fact that the country is at war, defense spending as a percentage of the national economy remains low relative to any set of years since World War II. Hence, as AEI visiting scholar Lawrence Lindsey, the former chairman of President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers, has noted, the U.S. economy is more than able to handle what needs to be spent on defense. That cost, moreover, like any investment, should be calculated based on the benefits it secures: success in Iraq, the defeat of the global jihadists, and deterrence of other hostile states would be an immense return on money spent.[17]

Dedicating 5 percent of the country’s GDP–a nickel on the dollar–to defense is a wise investment. Winning in Iraq and Afghanistan, winning the global War on Terror, having the arms and men to react to a new crisis–be it with Iran, North Korea, or an imploding Pakistan–and preparing the military to hedge against a rising China are all tasks that the United States and its military will face in coming years. Attempting to carry out those missions within planned defense budgets is a recipe for failure–and one potentially far more costly than the increased spending necessary to tackle each of these missions effectively. …”

More: The crying need for a bigger U.S. Military

“…The “operational tempo” of American conventional forces — the number, intensity, and duration of their deployments — has increased since the end of the Cold War. Yet the forces were almost twice as big in 1992 as they are today. The active-duty Army was cut from 18 divisions during Desert Storm to ten by 1994 — its size today. The Navy, which counted 568 ships in the late 1980s, struggles today to sustain a fleet of only 276. And the number of tactical air wings in the Air Force was reduced from 37 at the time of Desert Storm to 20 by the mid-1990s.

Modernization budgets also were cut substantially during the Clinton years, and procurement budgets were cut much further than the cuts in force size and structure warranted. In essence, the Clinton administration took a “procurement holiday” where the military was concerned. The contrast in the average annual procurement of major equipment in two periods — 1975 to 1990 and 1991 to 2000 — is startling. For example, the Pentagon purchased an average of 78 scout and attack helicopters each year from 1975 to 1990, and only seven each year from 1991 to 2000. An average of 238 Air Force fighters and five tanker aircraft were procured each year from 1975 to 1990, as against only 28 and one per year, respectively, from 1991 to 2000.

These dramatic reductions had profound implications. When older platforms are not replaced, readiness levels drop, and the cost of maintaining inventory climbs rapidly. By the end of the Carter years, the force had gone “hollow”; by the end of the Clinton years, it had begun to “rust,” badly. The George W. Bush administration has increased procurement budgets, but nowhere near enough to make up for the 1990s. The average age of Air Force aircraft in 1973 was just nine years. Today, the average aircraft is 24 years old and aircraft-modernization funding has dropped by nearly 20 percent over the last 22 years. …”

Hollowing out America’s defenses: as President Clinton walked the Normandy beaches, did he think of the current state of our military?

 – global military developments point to need for more, not less US strength

“…The readiness problems are innumerable. Here are a few:

Army. The U.S. Army Chief of Staff has said that “the Army is on the razor’s edge of readiness.” Manpower cuts are breaking up units and crews, and creating turbulence. Pay cuts are damaging morale. Funds for recruiting have been cut. Funds for maintaining operational tempo have been slashed 21 per cent from 1985. Operations and maintenance expenditures have been slashed 36 per cent. Modernization funds have been reduced 50 per cent during the last five years.

Air Force. Funding for the Air Force – so important in Desert Storm – also has been slashed: 45 per cent for fighters and 41 per cent for bombers. It is unlikely that the Air Force will be given a new fighter until 2010. The U.S. has depended on the C-141 and C-5 transport planes for many years and desperately needs the new C-17. It will be provided, but in far smaller numbers than originally announced.

The Air Force has had its funds for exercises severely cut. Cuts also affect retention of personnel, maintenance, spare-parts availability, and other key readiness factors. Munitions are inadequate, and the Air Force has had to draw on war reserves.

Navy. The most revealing evidence of the Navy’s “going hollow” is planned cuts in warships from 600 to 346, including a reduction in carrier strength from 15 to 12. But the Navy will continue to bear responsibilities from the Persian Gulf to the North Pacific and from the Adriatic to the Caribbean. And though the 346-ship level is the stated goal, the Navy has only enough money to maintain a 200-ship level. In addition, new weapons programs are grossly underfunded; the Navy will not have a replacement for its aging A-6 strike aircraft until 2010.

Critical problems exist in many specialized areas of naval operations. Mine warfare is a favorite tool of smaller naval powers, including rogue states, but the U.S. Navy has only 26 mine-warfare ships. The Navy’s 40 amphibious vessels now in service, meanwhile, are to be replaced by 12 ships of the LS class. It is said that the amphibious-ship total will rise to 35 by 2008, but all sorts of Third World crises can materialize in the next 14 years. The Administration has also slashed the number of nuclear attack subs from roughly 80 to 40. …”

Victory Is Within Reach in Iraq

“…The turnaround took place because we started to defeat the terrorists, at a time that roughly coincides with the surge. There is a tendency to treat the surge as a mere increase in numbers, but its most important component was the change in doctrine. Instead of keeping too many of our soldiers off the battlefield in remote and heavily fortified mega-bases, we put them into the field. Instead of reacting to the terrorists’ initiatives, we went after them. No longer were we going to maintain the polite fiction that we were in Iraq to train the locals so that they could fight the war. Instead, we aggressively engaged our enemies. It was at that point that the Iraqi people placed their decisive bet.

Herschel Smith, of the blog Captain’s Journal, puts it neatly in describing the events in Anbar: “There is no point in fighting forces (U.S. Marines) who will not be beaten and who will not go away.” We were the stronger horse, and the Iraqis recognized it.

No doubt Gen. David Petraeus and Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno know all this. It is, after all, their strategy that has produced the good news. Their reluctance to take credit for the defeat of al Qaeda and other terrorists in Iraq is due to the uncertain outcome of the big battle now being waged here at home. They, and our soldiers, fear that the political class in Washington may yet snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They know that Iran and Syria still have a free shot at us across long borders, and General Petraeus told Congress last month that it would not be possible to win in Iraq if our mission were restricted to that country.

Not a day goes by without one of our commanders shouting to the four winds that the Iranians are operating all over Iraq and that virtually all the suicide terrorists are foreigners sent in from Syria. We have done great damage to their forces on the battlefield, but they can always escalate, and we still have no policy to direct against the terror masters in Damascus and Tehran. That problem is not going to be resolved by sound counterinsurgency strategy alone, no matter how brilliantly executed. …”

Those who live by the smear are usually taken down by the smear.

What goes around comes around.

Many would say it is about time.

If the reports and rumors are true that Hillary Clinton is having an affair with her female aide, Huma Abedin, Senator Hillary Clinton will not be the Democratic Party’s candidate for President in 2008.

Why? The American people are feed up with past Clinton scandals and womanizing.

The American people do not want another four or eight years of more of the same from Hillary Rodham Clinton.

One more questionable round of Chinese communist campaign contributions and it is all over for Senator Clinton.

The story is now in play and even America’s mainstream media monopolists cannot ignore a story their global competitors are reporting with photos.

The Internet is all a buzz about it and so is talk radio!

Cannot wait for another CBS 60 Minute piece with former President Clinton standing by his wife Senator Clinton.

Denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is too painful to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The subject may deny the reality of the unpleasant fact altogether (simple denial), admit the fact but deny its seriousness (minimisation) or admit both the fact and seriousness but deny responsibility (transference). The concept of denial is particularly important to the study of addiction.

The theory of denial was first researched seriously by Anna Freud. She classified denial as a mechanism of the immature mind, because it conflicts with the ability to learn from and cope with reality. Where denial occurs in mature minds, it is most often associated with death, dying and rape. More recent research has significantly expanded the scope and utility of the concept. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross used denial as the first of five stages in the psychology of a dying patient, and the idea has been extended to include the reactions of survivors to news of a death. …”

Psychological Projection

“…According to Corey Mixon, projection is a psychological defense mechanism whereby one “projects” one’s own undesirable thoughts, motivations, desires, and feelings onto someone else.

To understand the process, consider a person in a couple who has thoughts of infidelity. Instead of dealing with these undesirable thoughts consciously, he or she subconsciously projects these feelings onto the other person, and begins to think that the other has thoughts of infidelity and may be having an affair. In this way one can see that projection is related to denial, arguably the only defense mechanism that is more primitive than projection. Those who project deny a part of themselves that is desperate to come to the surface. In this case, they cannot face their own feelings of infidelity and therefore project them onto the other person. …”

The pattern of deny–delay–deny–delay–has started.

The Heidelberg Appeal: Beware of False Gods and Prophets

Posted on November 20, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Climate, Economics, Links, Politics, Raves, Resources, Science, Technology, Uncategorized |

The Heidelberg Appeal (1992)

The Heidelberg Appeal was released to the public at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. By the end of the summit, 425 scientists and other intellectual leaders had signed the appeal.

Today, thousands of signatories, including many Nobel Prize winners, from more than 100 countries have signed the Heidelberg Appeal. In spite of this tremendous and growing support from the world’s scientific community, it has received little media attention.

Neither a statement of corporate interests nor a denial of environmental problems, the Heidelberg Appeal is a quiet call for reason and a recognition of scientific progress as the solution to, not the cause of, the health and environmental problems that we face.

The Appeal expresses a conviction that modern society is the best equipped in human history to solve the world’s ills, provided that they do not sacrifice science, intellectual honesty, and common sense to political opportunism and irrational fears.

Thus, the Heidelberg Appeal is wholeheartedly supported by CFACT Europe.”

Heidelberg Appeal

“A version of the Heidelberg Appeal was published in the June 1, 1992, Wall Street Journal over the signatures of 46 prominent scientists and other intellectuals. It has subsequently been endorsed by some 4,000 scientists, including 72 Nobel Prize winners. The Appeal was for an anthropocentric assessment of the world’s resources and a utilitarian as opposed to abolitionist approach to hazardous substances used or created by technology. It targeted as irrational, by implication, if not explicitly, both a vision of a “Natural State” with intrinsic rights to impede the activities of man, and hysterical fears of environmental poisons, disproportionate to the threat and dismissive of their associated benefits. …”

Heidelberg Appeal

Addressed to the chiefs of state and governments

Heidelberg, April 14, 1992

“We want to make our full contribution to the preservation of our common heritage, the Earth.

“We are, however, worried at the dawn of the twenty-first century, at the emergence of an irrational ideology which is opposed to scientific and industrial progress and impedes economic and social development.

“We contend that a Natural State, sometimes idealized by movements with a tendency to look towards the past, does not exist and has probably never existed since man’s first appearance in the biosphere, insofar as humanity has always progressed by increasingly harnessing Nature to its needs and not the reverse.

“We fully subscribe to the objectives of a scientific ecology for a universe whose resources must be taken stock of, monitored and preserved. But we herewith demand that this stock-taking, monitoring and preservation be founded on scientific criteria and not on irrational pre-conceptions.

“We stress that many essential human activities are carried out either by manipulating hazardous substances or in their proximity, and that progress and development have always involved increasing control over hostile forces, to the benefit of mankind. We therefore consider that scientific ecology is no more than an extension of this continual progress toward the improved life of future generations. We intend to assert science’s responsibility and duty towards society as a whole. We do however forewarn the authorities in charge of our planet’s destiny against decisions which are supported by pseudo-scientific arguments or false and non-relevant data.

“We draw everybody’s attention to the absolute necessity of helping poor countries attain a level of sustainable development which matches that of the rest of the planet, protecting them from troubles and dangers stemming from developed nations, and avoiding their entanglement in a web of unrealistic obligations which would compromise both their independence and their dignity.

“The greatest evils which stalk our Earth are ignorance and oppression, and not Science, Technology and Industry whose instruments, when adequately managed, are indispensable tools of a future shaped by Humanity, by itself and for itself, overcoming major problems like overpopulation, starvation and worldwide diseases.”

Clinton’s Cap and Trade Tax on The American People for Consuming Electricity and Driving Cars, SUVs and Trucks!

Posted on November 14, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Climate, Economics, Politics, Rants, Raves, Resources, Science, Taxes, Technology, Uncategorized, Video |

All the news reporters and commentors were focusing on the planted question on global warming asked by a college student to Senator Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton Caught on Planting Question Man She is Good

Hillary Clinton Insults , Uses , Manipulates Iowans

The big news was candidate Clinton’s answer.

  • A new cap-and-trade program that auctions 100 percent of permits alongside investments to move us on the path towards energy independence;

Al Gore’s  propaganda film An Inconvenient Truth about global warming is being shown to students multiple times in government schools.

That is why young people are asking you questions about global warming Senator Clinton.

Stop scarring our children with your propaganda on global warming.

Parents deeply resent this.

Inhofe Speech: Climate Alarmism’s Impact On Children

John Stossel – The Global Warming Debate 10-20-07

Senator Clinton wants all Americans to pay a new tax for the carbon emissions resulting from burning carbon based fuel, mainly coal used to power electrical plants and gasoline to power your cars and trucks.

She likes to call it cap and trade.

Note Senator Clinton said companies, individuals and businesses who emit greenhouse gases.

Well news flash folks — all humans and animals– including your pet dogs and cats emit or exhale carbon dioxide.

The carbon dioxide you and your pet breath out or exhale is used by plants as food to grow. Think of carbon dioxide as plant food.

Animals and humans in turn eat the plants.  We are all part of the carbon cycle. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant and should not be confused with carbon monoxide, a pollutant.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Cycle

Greenhouse Gas

Greenhouse Gas by Sector.png

“Global Warming:
A closer look at the numbers

Just how much of the “Greenhouse Effect” is caused by human activity?

It is about 0.28%, if water vapor is taken into account– about 5.53%, if not.

Water vapor constitutes Earth’s most significant greenhouse gas, accounting for about 95% of Earth’s greenhouse effect (4). …”

Carbon Dioxide: A Satanic Gas?

“…Assuming linearity, this gives a rise of 1.3°C in the next century—precisely at the midpoint of the range to which I first testified over ten years ago.

Models are also linear with respect to their cold and warm season warmings. Given the differential that we have seen since 1968, the expected winter and summer half-year warmings work out to 1.45 and 1.15° C, respectively, in the next century.

During this century, we experienced a temperature rise of approximately half of these values. Crop yields quintupled. Life span doubled, in part because of better nutrition. Winters warmed. Growing seasons lengthened. The planet became greener. Increasing carbon dioxide had something to do with each and every one of these. There is simply no logical reason to assume that doing the same, this time in 50, instead of 100 years, will have any different effect in kind. That kind of improvement in the quality of human life could hardly be caused by a “pollutant.” …”

CO2 Pollution and Global Warming

When does carbon dioxide become a pollutant?

Also anybody who uses electricity in their home and business is emitting carbon dioxide.

The electrical power plant is emitting carbon dioxide when it burns coal or natural gas to produce the electricity that you use in your home and place of employment.

If you drive a car or truck your car engine is emitting carbon dioxide when it burns the gasoline to power the engine.

The Democratic Party is using climate models to produce computer aided scanarios called projections to scare people into thinking they are changing the earth’s climate.

This speculative nonsense or computer aided story-telling is then used in propaganda films and books to justify a massive tax increase.

A cap and trade tax or a carbon tax would damage the United States economy and result in more jobs being outsourced to such countries as China and India to name two.

Cap and trade as well as a carbon tax is just another tax to be paid by the American people.

One more tax to be added to the taxes they already pay for electricity and gasoline.

Now you know why Al Gore obsesses on global warming and the planetary emergency.

It is a big cover story to justify a massive tax increase.

Al Gore with his movie and book, An Inconvenient Truth, about global warming scares children, ignorant government school teachers and science challenged adults.

Adults are not easily fooled. Nor are judges:

Inaccuracies in Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth

Only the  progressive greens or watermellons greens (green on the outside and red on the inside) mostly socialists, communists, American liberals and leftists buy into this nonsense and associated investment and tax scams.

The vast majority of Americans and scientists think climate change is primarily caused  by the sun with an assist from the oceans, cosmic rays, greenhouse gases–mainly water vapor, clouds, precipitation, volcanoes, the biosphere (plants and animals), and may be just a very tiny bit by man.

There is no one cause for climate change and man is not the primary or even leading secondary cause for climate change.

Here come the taxes–Cap and Trade–and there goes the American economy and American job overseas.

Cap and Trade: A Bad Trade-off for the Economy and Company Earnings

Wayne Winegarden*

April 10, 2007

“…Under the best scenario the cap and trade will:

• Raise gasoline prices by nearly 53 percent

• Raise energy prices by more than 86 percent

• Reduce economic growth by 1.9 percent, which is $256 billion of 2006 GDP

• Reduce economic activity across most industries including the construction, manufacturing, transportation and finance industries

• Raise interest rates because higher energy prices will exert upward pressure on overall prices and contribute to inflation …”

Congression Budget Office:Trade-Offs in Allocating Allowances for CO2 Emissions

“…Regardless of how the allowances were distributed, most of the cost of meeting a cap on CO2 emissions would be

borne by consumers, who would face persistently higher prices for products such as electricity and gasoline. Those

price increases would be regressive in that poorer households would bear a larger burden relative to their income

than wealthier households would. In addition, workers and investors in parts of the energy sector—such as the

coal industry—and in various energy-intensive industries would be likely to experience losses as the economy

adjusted to the emission cap and production of those industries’ goods declined. Such losses would probably

be limited to current workers and investors. Job losses in those industries would be likely to impose a fairly large

burden on a relatively small number of households; …”

Almost all taxes are past on to the consumer Senator Clinton and you know it.

Energy independence requires the building of electrical power plants (coal, nuclear, and natural gas), oil refineries and the exploration and development of oil reserves in Alaska, the continental United States and off the coasts.

Incidently that is exactly what the People Republic of China or the Chinese Communists are doing.

 New coal plants bury ‘Kyoto’

“…What you’re seeing with China and the others is the cheapness and security of coal just overwhelming the desire to be clean.” …

(Graphic) COAL’S KNOCKOUT BLOW TO KYOTO: By 2012, expected cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions under the Kyoto treaty will be swamped by emissions from a surge of new coal-fired plants built in China, India, and the United States

More taxes and regulation only makes the American people and the United States more dependent upon imports from foreign government controlled oil companies.

Thanks but no thanks Senator Clinton.

Just say no.

BBC News – How to cut emissions (Global Warming)–any takers?

Some facts about greenhouse and global warming

“…What are the take-home messages:

  • The temperature effect of atmospheric carbon dioxide is logarithmic, not exponential.
  • The potential planetary warming from a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide from pre-Industrial Revolution levels of ~280ppmv to 560ppmv (possible some time later this century – perhaps) is generally estimated at around 1 °C.
  • The guesses of significantly larger warming are dependent on “feedback” (supplementary) mechanisms programmed into climate models. The existence of these “feedback” mechanisms is uncertain and the cumulative sign of which is unknown (they may add to warming from increased atmospheric carbon dioxide or, equally likely, might suppress it).
  • The total warming since measurements have been attempted is thought to be about 0.6 degrees Centigrade. At least half of the estimated temperature increment occurred before 1950, prior to significant change in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. Assuming the unlikely case that all the natural drivers of planetary temperature change ceased to operate at the time of measured atmospheric change then a 30% increment in atmospheric carbon dioxide caused about one-third of one degree temperature increment since and thus provides empirical support for less than one degree increment due to a doubling of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
  • There is no linear relationship between atmospheric carbon dioxide change and global mean temperature or global mean temperature trend — global mean temperature has both risen and fallen during the period atmospheric carbon dioxide has been rising.
  • The natural world has tolerated greater than one-degree fluctuations in mean temperature during the relatively recent past and thus current changes are within the range of natural variation. (See, for example, ice core and sea surface temperature reconstructions.)
  • Other anthropogenic effects are vastly more important, at least on local and regional scales.
  • Fixation on atmospheric carbon dioxide is a distraction from these more important anthropogenic effects.
  • Despite attempts to label atmospheric carbon dioxide a “pollutant” it is, in fact, an essential trace gas, the increasing abundance of which is a bonus for the bulk of the biosphere.
  • There is no reason to believe that slightly lower temperatures are somehow preferable to slightly higher temperatures – there is no known “optimal” nor any known means of knowingly and predictably adjusting some sort of planetary thermostat.
  • Fluctuations in atmospheric carbon dioxide are of little relevance in the short to medium term (although should levels fall too low it could prove problematic in the longer-term).
  • Activists and zealots constantly shrilling over atmospheric carbon dioxide are misdirecting attention and effort from real and potentially addressable local, regional and planetary problems. …”

Global Warming: The Anatomy of a Debate

Presentation before the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory
January 16, 1998 by Jerry Taylor

Jerry Taylor is director of the Cato Institute’s Natural Resource Studies

“…I ask you, would you have been comfortable had your grandmother impoverished herself so that you could be 4.4 times wealthier than she rather than 3.9 times wealthier than she? Remember also that increased energy costs are borne most directly by the poor, who spend a greater portion of their income on energy than do the wealthy. Moreover, the poor who will pay the highest price of greenhouse gas abatement will be those in the developing world who will be denied the opportunity to better their lifestyle and standard of living. They will be “saved” from the fate of industrialization and experiencing even the most rudimentary comforts of Western consumer societies.

We’re not really gambling with the lives of our grandchildren. They’ll be just fine regardless of how the climate plays itself out. We’re gambling with the lives of today’s poor, who stand to lose the most if we act rashly. …”

“…The issues involved in understanding global warming and taking actions to slow its harmful impacts are the major environmental challenge of the modern age. Global warming poses a unique mix of problems that arise from the fact that global warming is a global public good, is likely to be costly to slow or prevent, has daunting scientific and economic uncertainties, and will cast a shadow over the globe for decades, perhaps even for centuries to come.

The challenge of coping with global warming is particularly difficult because it spans many disciplines and parts of society. Ecologists may see it as a threat to ecosystems, marine biologists as a problem leading to ocean acidification, utilities as a debit to their balance sheets, and coal miners as an existential threat to their livelihood. Businesses may view global warming as either an opportunity or a hazard, politicians as a great issue as long as they don’t need to mention taxes, ski resorts as a mortal danger to their already short seasons, golfers as a boon to year-round recreation, and poor countries as a threat to their farmers as well as a source of financial and technological aid. This many-faceted nature also poses a challenge to natural and social scientists, who must incorporate a wide variety of geophysical, economic, and political disciplines into their diagnoses and prescriptions. …”

Al Gore’s Little White Lie: Man-Made Global Warming Causing Polar Bears To Drown

Posted on November 11, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Climate, Economics, Links, Politics, Resources, Science, Taxes, Technology, Uncategorized, Video |

Is man-made global warming causing polar bears to drown?

Actually no, but it sure makes the children concerned for the cute white polar bear in Al Gore’s  An Inconvenient Truth: animated footage .

Real polar bears unlike Hollywood animated polar bears simply turn around and go to the land (see story below).

Stop scarring little children with drowning polar bears and crashing sea animations.

Truth About Stranded Polar Bears Image

Gore’s Film an Oscar Favorite but Violates Academy Standards, Critics Say
“…One point of contention in Gore’s movie is animated footage of a polar bear struggling to find stable sea ice. Gore has argued that human-induced global warming is directly impacting polar bears’ habitat and sea ice in particular. Consequently, he suggests, polar bears are forced to swim longer distances and sometimes drown in the process.

“A new scientific study shows that for the first time they’re finding polar bears that have actually drowned swimming long distances – up to sixty miles – to find the ice,” Gore says in the movie. …”

Is Global Warming Killing the Polar Bears?

“…In a quarter-century of aerial surveys of the Alaskan coastline before 2004, researchers from the U.S. Minerals Management Service said they typically spotted a lone polar bear swimming in the ocean far from ice about once every two years. Polar-bear drownings were so rare that they have never been documented in the surveys.

But in September 2004, when the polar ice cap had retreated a record 160 miles north of the northern coast of Alaska, researchers counted 10 polar bears swimming as far as 60 miles offshore. Polar bears can swim long distances but have evolved to mainly swim between sheets of ice, scientists say.

The researchers returned to the vicinity a few days after a fierce storm and found four dead bears floating in the water. “Extrapolation of survey data suggests that on the order of 40 bears may have been swimming and that many of those probably drowned as a result of rough seas caused by high winds,” the researchers say in a report set to be released today. …”

“…But weekly aerial surveys by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service show that, over the past five years, an unusually large number of bears have congregated along the beaches. Between the coastal town of Barrow, Alaska and the Canadian border, about 300 miles east, researchers counted as many as 200 bears on land, said Scott Schliebe, director of the Fish and Wildlife’s polar-bear project. Many bears could be seen gathered around whale carcasses near villages like Kaktovik, which lies in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge where the Bush administration is pushing for drilling.

Scientists measured the distances from where the bears were gathered to the nearest ice sheets at sea and found this correlation: The farther the ice was from shore, the larger the number of bears were found on land.

Scientists estimate there are 20,000 to 25,000 polar bears world-wide, including about 2,000 that frequent the Beaufort Sea off Alaska. The latest population study by federal officials, in 1997, suggested the Alaskan bear population wasn’t endangered. An update is expected by the end of next year. …”

Canadian controversy: How do polar bears fare?

Despite global warming, an ongoing study says polar bear populations are rising in the country’s eastern Arctic region.

“…But global warming is not killing the polar bears of Canada’s eastern Arctic, according to one ongoing study. Scheduled for release next year, it says the number of polar bears in the Davis Strait area of Canada’s eastern Arctic – one of 19 polar bear populations worldwide – has grown to 2,100, up from 850 in the mid-1980s.

“There aren’t just a few more bears. There are a … lot more bears,” biologist Mitchell Taylor told the Nunatsiaq News of Iqaluit in the Arctic territory of Nunavut. Earlier, in a long telephone conversation, Dr. Taylor explained his conviction that threats to polar bears from global warming are exaggerated and that their numbers are increasing. He has studied the animals for the Nunavut government for two decades. …”

Global Warming Debunked

“…The Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that the polar bear population is currently at 20,000 to 25,000 bears, whereas in the 1950s and 1960s, estimates were as low as 5,000-10,000 bears. We currently have an estimated four or five times more polar bears than 50 years ago. …”

Polar bear subpopulations around the Arctic

“Polar bears often move over huge distances in their annual cycle. Because population estimates are very difficult to obtain in the Arctic, census data are patchy for some polar bear subpopulations. The current overall estimate is  20-25,000 wild polar bears. …”

Polar Bears on Thin Ice, Not Really!

Conclusion. Are human activities causing a warming in the Arctic, affecting the sea ice extent, longevity and thickness? Contradictory data exists. What seems clear is that polar bears have survived for thousands of years, including both colder and warmer periods. There may be threats to the future survival of the polar bear, but global warming is not primary among them.

“…It has been speculated that polar bears might get extinct in 100 years from now which would indicate a population decrease of > 50% in 45 years based on a precautious attitude to the uncertainty in data. A more realistic attitude to the risk involved in the assessment make it fair to suspect population reduction of > 30%. Therefore the classification is Vulnerable (A3.c). …”

Global warming: Will the Sun come to our rescue?

“… We now know that, curiously, both these mini ice ages coincided with prolonged lulls in the sun’s activity – the sunspots and dramatic flares that are driven by its powerful magnetic field.

Now some astronomers are predicting that the sun is about to enter another quiet period. With climate scientists warning that global warming is approaching a tipping point, beyond which rapid and possibly irreversible damage to our environment will be unavoidable, a calm sun and a resultant cold snap might be exactly what we need to give us breathing space to agree and enact pollution controls. …”

“Endangered” polar bear population explodes, threatens man

Threatened” Polar Bears?

Polar bears ‘threatened’

Protecting Not Polar Bears But Warmist Power

Marc Sheppard

“…In a move climate realists have dreaded for months, the polar bear was listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act yesterday.  Despite increasing numbers in recent decades, Ursus maritimus now distinguishes itself as the first creature ever officially endangered due to global warming.  Bureaucratic actions this preposterous invariably mask ulterior motives, and this little doozy is certainly no exception.

Under what is perhaps the nation’s strictest environmental law, the bear’s critical habitat must now be protected and a strategy formulated to assist its population’s recovery.

But unlike species whose dwindling numbers actually can be attributed primarily to the actions of man, such as their grizzly bear cousins (trains and cars), the gray whale or the sea otter (both from over-hunting), the polar bears’ plight is purely model-based theory.  And while you can fence off tracks and roads in national parks, and even regulate harpooning and trapping, how do you protect an animal from a warming planet?

Any guesses?

Detractors of the action argued that it would force the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to regulate the cause of the danger — which greenies have convinced the masses to be CO2 emissions from tailpipes and smokestacks. As this would clearly be outside the Service’s jurisdiction, Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne reassured us that he’d personally make sure it didn’t happen.  Adding:

“Listing the polar bear as threatened can reduce avoidable losses of polar bears, but it should not open the door to use the E.S.A. to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

What nonsense — the slippery secretary is well aware that — thanks to last year’s absurd Supreme Court declaration of CO2 as an air pollutant — it won’t need to. …”

Polar Bears and Global Warming (great photos of polar bears)

 Polar Bear Facts

“…Distribution and Population: Polar bears are found throughout the ice-covered waters of the Arctic region and prefer to remain out on the sea ice all year if possible.  The sea ice provides a platform from which polar bears can hunt.  As the ice retreats north during the summer months, polar bears travel with the ice floes and continue to hunt seals (Stirling and Guravich 1990, p 61).

Polar bears are usually found in the northern marine areas of Alaska, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Norway’s Svalbard Archepelago, Greenland and Canada (Lynch 1993, p 5). …”

Scientists estimate there are between 25,000 to 40,000 polar bears in the world.  They also believe the polar bear population is divided into 6 core populations, with members of each core never mingling with the other core populations (Lynch 1993, p 6).

U.S. Geological Survey

New Polar Bear Finding

“…The overall conclusion of the USGS research effort is: Projected changes in future sea ice conditions, if realized, will result in loss of approximately 2/3 of the world’s current polar bear population by the mid 21st century. Because the observed trajectory of Arctic sea ice decline appears to be underestimated by currently available models, this assessment of future polar bear status may be conservative. …”

“It’s been in the works for quite some time, but now the decision is official. Polar bears have been listed by the Bush Interior Department as a “threatened” species. This is the first listing attributed to global warming.

What’s really going on here? …”

Is the Polar Bear Endangered, or Just Conveniently Charismatic?

Kenneth Green

“…All of these environmental groups favor strong regulatory agendas to reduce greenhouse gases, and all have consistently opposed the use of Arctic regions for resource production. So it was perhaps inevitable that several environmental groups (the Center for Biological Diversity, Greenpeace, and NRDC) would petition the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.[10] As of this writing, the Bush administration has not rendered a verdict on whether polar bears are to be placed on the endangered species list, but it seems likely that they will be.[11] The legal deadline for doing so was January 9, 2007, a date that the administration missed, but it is claiming that the delay was procedural and not caused by a dispute about endangerment.[12] Now a federal judge has given the administration a deadline of May 15, 2008, to make a final listing determination.

Listing the polar bear as a threatened species would have significant public policy consequences. It would set a new precedent, representing the first linkage of species endangerment with global warming. Such a listing would basically wall off the entire Arctic region to exploration, resource extraction, and development–at least by U.S. companies–and a threatened species listing would give environmental groups the ability to sue future U.S. governments to force them to reverse climate change by whatever means necessary.

There is little doubt that such lawsuits would be filed quickly. According to the NRDC:

Listing the polar bear guarantees federal agencies will be obligated to ensure that any action they authorize, fund, or carry out will not jeopardize the polar bears’ continued existence or adversely modify their critical habitat, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will be required to prepare a recovery plan for the polar bear, specifying measures necessary for its protection.[13] …”

Climate Change – Is CO2 the cause? – Pt 1 of 4

Climate Change – Is CO2 the cause? – Pt 2 of 4

Al Gore Debates Global Warming

Why? Climate change cannot be predicted or forecasted. You probably thought that is a distinction without much difference. Well you would be wrong if you listen very carefully to the climate modelers.

What is the Difference Between A Multi-Decadal Climate Projection and a Multi-Decadal Climate Prediction?

“…• A prediction is a probabilistic statement that something will happen in the future based on conditions that are known today and assumptions about the physical processes that will determine these changes. A prediction generally assumes that future changes in factors other than those being predicted will not have a significant influence on what is to happen. …”

“…• A projection is usually a probabilistic statement that it is possible that something will happen in the future if certain conditions develop. In contrast to a prediction, a projection specifically allows for significant changes in the set of ‘boundary conditions’ that might influence the prediction. As a result, what emerges are conclusions of the type ‘if this happens, then this is what is expected’.

“…This is a significant issue. The use of the term “projection” results in erroneous communication to policymakers on the accuracy of the multi-decadal global model simulations in being capable of accurately predicting the climate in the coming decades. The models cannot be skillful since they do not contain all of the important first order climate forcings, as identified in the 2005 National Research Council Report. Indeed, when a range of global averaged surface temperature increases for the coming decades are next presented, the question should be asked if this is a prediction, or just the result of a process modeling study with incomplete climate physics ? The honest answer will be the later. …”

In simple English a projection is an educated guess.

Do not bet money or make policy based on projections.

The climate modelers make projections based on assumptions they plug into the model.

The projection of polar bear extinction is based upon the climate model projections which are in turn based on assumptions the modelers plug into the model.  The models have a very wide range of  possible results. This indicates that the climate modelers really do not understand the processes or systems very well and the science of climate change is a very young or immature “science”. The models cannot predict either cloud formation or precipatation very well.

Alaska is fighting to block polar bear protections

“A proposal to list polar bears as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act has Alaska politicians seeing green, as in the color of money that could be lost if a bear recovery plan hinders the state’s resource development.

Gov. Sarah Palin and a majority of legislators strongly oppose the listing and say the acknowledged intent behind it — curbing greenhouse gas emissions nationally — should be debated in another forum, not a law aimed at protecting animals. …”

“It is important that we prevent listing the polar bear as threatened, not only because the designation is not clearly supported by science but because it will be used as leverage to stop development projects across the country, including our own natural gas pipeline,” said Sen. Gary Wilken, R-Fairbanks.

Polar bear

“…Polar bears are excellent swimmers and have been seen in open Arctic waters as far as 60 miles (100 km) from land. In some cases they spend half their time on ice floes. Their 12 cm (5 in) layer of fat adds buoyancy in addition to insulating them from the cold. Recently, polar bears in the Arctic have undertaken longer than usual swims to find prey, resulting in four recorded drownings in the unusually large ice pack regression of 2005.[34]

Global Warming is The Greatest Hoax, Scam and Disinformation Campaign in History

Global warming is the greatest hoax, scam and disinformation campaign in history bar none.

A lot of people are going to look like fools for having fallen for the global warming scam–hook, line and sinker.

More and more experts are speaking out and blowing the whistle on computer aided scare mongering of the climate model alarmists.

Read the entire article and then watch the videos on YouTube:

Weather Channel Founder: Global Warming ‘Greatest Scam in History’

“It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM. Some dastardly scientists with environmental and political motives manipulated long term scientific data to create an allusion of rapid global warming. Other scientists of the same environmental whacko type jumped into the circle to support and broaden the “research” to further enhance the totally slanted, bogus global warming claims. Their friends in government steered huge research grants their way to keep the movement going. Soon they claimed to be a consensus.

Environmental extremists, notable politicians among them, then teamed up with movie, media and other liberal, environmentalist journalists to create this wild “scientific” scenario of the civilization threatening environmental consequences from Global Warming unless we adhere to their radical agenda. Now their ridiculous manipulated science has been accepted as fact and become a cornerstone issue for CNN, CBS, NBC, the Democratic Political Party, the Governor of California, school teachers and, in many cases, well informed but very gullible environmentally conscientious citizens. Only one reporter at ABC has been allowed to counter the Global Warming frenzy with one 15 minute documentary segment. …”

“…In time, a decade or two, the outrageous scam will be obvious. As the temperature rises, polar ice cap melting, coastal flooding and super storm pattern all fail to occur as predicted everyone will come to realize we have been duped. The sky is not falling. And, natural cycles and drifts in climate are as much if not more responsible for any climate changes underway. I strongly believe that the next twenty years are equally as likely to see a cooling trend as they are to see a warming trend.”

New Study Explodes Human-Global Warming Story

“…Writing in the International Journal of Climatology of the Royal Meteorological Society, professor David H. Douglass (of the University of Rochester), professor John R. Christy (of the University of Alabama), Benjamin D. Pearson and professor S. Fred Singer (of the University of Virginia) report that observed patterns of temperature changes (“fingerprints”) over the last 30 years disagree with what greenhouse models predict and can better be explained by natural factors, such as solar variability.

The conclusion is that climate change is “unstoppable” and cannot be affected or modified by controlling the emission of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, as is proposed in current legislation.  …”

1. The Sun drives climate change and it will be colder next decade by 2.0 degrees centigrade.

2. The anthropogenic carbon dioxide effect is real, minuscule and too small to be measured.

3. Higher atmospheric carbon dioxide levels will boost agricultural production.

4. Increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is wholly beneficial. …”

“…Unless all important studies are independently verified, it cannot be said that the late 20th century warming was particularly exceptional. And especially so given that no global warming at all has occurred since 1998, a period of eight years over which atmospheric CO2 increased by 15 ppm (4%). It is crystal clear that natural causes are a possible explanation for the entire instrumental temperature record to date. Indeed, beyond that and in conformity with Occam’s Razor, the appropriate null hypothesis for climate research is that the changes in climate that we measure are a result of natural forcing agents unless and until it can be demonstrated otherwise. So far as I am aware, there is no empirical evidence published in refereed journals that invalidates this null hypothesis. …”

Black Ops PR in Global Warming Hoax? (updated)

By James Lewis

Rush Limbaugh was hoaxed today by a very slick and superficially plausible Global Warming fraud. This resembles the kind of Black PR operation we have just been warning about. The trick is to plant a plausible story that fits a conservative theme, in this case skepticism about anthropogenic GlobWarm.

The hoax looks very professional. A fraudulent scientific journal was created on the web, called the “Journal of Geoclimatic Studies.” The journal is fake, the article claiming to disprove the popular Global Warming meme is fake, the Editorial Board is fake, and the authors are faked.

The key to this fraud is its professionalism. All the visible features of the hoax are superficially possible. They do not stand up to deeper examination, but the hoaxers succeeded in fooling Rush for some minutes before he caught it.

The Left is bound to trumpet their momentary success as a proof that the GlobWarm skeptics are wrong.

Two possibilities. One is a bunch of smart grad students at MIT or Caltech. That’s the innocent explanation, and we can all have a good laugh.

The other possibility is a very slick dirty trick from the Left. …”

Why Global Warming is Probably a Crock

By James Lewis

“…So in the best case, the smartest climatologist in the world will know 100 variables, each one to an accuracy of 99 percent. Want to know what the probability of our spiffiest math model would be, if that perfect world existed?  Have you ever multiplied (99/100) by itself 100 times? According to the Google calculator, it equals a little more than 36.6 percent.

The Bottom line: our best imaginable model has a total probability of one out of three. How many billions of dollars in Kyoto money are we going to spend on that chance?
Or should we just blow it at the dog races?
So all ye of global warming faith, rejoice in the ambiguity that real life presents to all of us. Neither planetary catastrophe nor paradise on earth are sure bets. Sorry about that. (Consider growing up, instead.)
That’s why human-caused global warming is an hypothesis, not a fact. Anybody who says otherwise isn’t doing science, but trying to sell you a bill of goods. …”

The Epicycles of Global Warming

By James Lewis

“…How good are the assumptions in these models? Well consider the fate of Ferenc M. Miskolczi  (pronounced Ferens MISkolshee), a first-rate Hungarian mathematician, who has  published a proof that “greenhouse warming” may be mathematically impossible. His proof involves long equations, but the bottom line is that the warming models assume that the atmosphere is infinitely thick. Why? Because it  simplifies the math. If on the other hand, you assume the atmosphere is about 100 km thick (about 65 miles) — which has the big advantage of being true — the greenhouse effect disappears! No more global warming

Miskolczi once worked for NASA, but resigned in disgust when they would not allow him to publish his work. (It appeared in the peer-reviewed Hungarian journal Weather, and looks legit). So it’s the global warming faithful of NASA Goddard Space Center, notably True Believer Godfather James Hansen — who are always complaining to the media about Bush Administration censorship — but who have ended up censoring their own scientific skeptic. Cosmic justice for NASA, you might say.

Censoring skeptics is an admission of weakness. That’s why Pope had to shut up Galileo — he couldn’t win on the facts. The science establishment is now going after the Galileos of our time for the same reason, because orthodox scientists are pretty frail human beings and don’t really like to be wrong. Reasoned skepticism is not something our papacy of politicized science wants to hear. Off with their heads!

That’s the real global warming tragedy — a speculative bubble in science, which happens all the time, has now been protected by the politicians, and allowed into an ugly and expanding volcanic pressure point. It is threatening to erupt and engulf climate modeling around the world. Scientists are pretty ruthless with open failure.

Politicized science is a far bigger disaster than NASA’s Challenger tragedy. Americans understood the Challenger tragedy as a technical mistake at the leading edge of space exploration. What we cannot understand or forgive is corruption of scientific inquiry to push a money agenda. …”

The Issue of The United States 2008 Presidential Election–Criminal Alien Removal (CAR) and A Border Security Fence (BSF)

Posted on November 2, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Books, Economics, Immigration, Links, Politics, Rants, Raves, Resources, Taxes, Technology, Uncategorized, Video, War |

“No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it.”
~Theodore Roosevelt

The American elites of both political parties better wake up.

The American people are demanding Criminal Alien Removal (CAR) and the construction of the Border Security Fence (BSF) now and not after the election of 2008.

A criminal is someone who has committed a crime or has been convicted of a crime.

Any person that is a citizen of another country and enters the United States of America without a visa is committing a crime and is therefore a criminal.

The term “alien” means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.—-000-.html

What is the US Immigration Law — Penalties for Improper Entry

Section 1325. Improper entry by alien

    (a) Improper time or place; avoidance of examination or inspection; misrepresentation and concealment of facts. Any alien who
        (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or
        (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers,
or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States
by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission
of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent
commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

The time has come for the United States government to secure the US borders by building a fence across the southern border of the US with Mexico and arresting, detaining, and removing all criminal aliens from the United States and deporting them to their country of origin.

The American people are insisting that the fence be completed and all illegal immigrants leave or face arrest, detention, removal and deportation.

Thirty days is more than adequate time for both the construction of the fence and the mass migration back to their home country of all criminal aliens.

Any employer knowingly hiring and employing illegal aliens should face stiff fines for each illegal employee they employee. Repeat offenders will be imprisoned.

U.S Code Collection

TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER II > Part VIII > § 1324a

§ 1324a. Unlawful employment of aliens

(a) Making employment of unauthorized aliens unlawful

(1) In general

It is unlawful for a person or other entity—

(A) to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an alien knowing the alien is an unauthorized alien (as defined in subsection (h)(3) of this section) with respect to such employment, or

(i) to hire for employment in the United States an individual without complying with the requirements of subsection (b) of this section or

(ii) if the person or entity is an agricultural association, agricultural employer, or farm labor contractor (as defined in section 1802 of title 29), to hire, or to recruit or refer for a fee, for employment in the United States an individual without complying with the requirements of subsection (b) of this section.

(2) Continuing employment

It is unlawful for a person or other entity, after hiring an alien for employment in accordance with paragraph (1), to continue to employ the alien in the United States knowing the alien is (or has become) an unauthorized alien with respect to such employment.

Those bringing and harboring criminal aliens are aiding and abetting a criminal and are themselves committing a crime and are in turn criminals.

§ 1324. Bringing in and harboring certain aliens—-000-.html

The IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT,Office of Detention and Removal Operations will start enforcing the immigration laws or the American people will vote out of office and/or impeach any office holder who refuses to uphold their oath of office and enforce the law.

Enforcement will start January 1, 2008.

If you are here illegally, please leave now.

The time for talk is long past.

The oath breakers of both political parties are not above the law and will be voted out of office, if not impreached.

“The people’s good is the highest law.”

Estimates of the Size and Characteristics of the Undocumented Population

“…Major findings include:

• Following several years of steady growth, the number of undocumented residents reached an estimated 10.3 million in March 2004 with undocumented Mexicans numbering 5.9 million or 57 percent of the total.

• As of March 2005, the undocumented population has reached nearly 11 million including more than 6 million Mexicans, assuming the same rate of growth as in recent years.

• About 80 to 85 percent of the migration from Mexico in recent years has been undocumented.

• Since the mid-1990s, the most rapid growth in the number of undocumented migrants has been in states that previously had relatively small foreign-born populations. As a result, Arizona and North Carolina are now among the states with largest numbers of undocumented migrants. • Although most undocumented migrants are young adults, there is also a sizeable childhood population. About one-sixth of the population—some 1.7 million people—is under 18 years of age. …”

“…The United States is a nation of immigrants from all over the world. The resulting ethnic mosaic goes a long way toward explaining our greatness as a nation. Immigration has always been a blessing for us, and it still is. But yesteryear’s immigration and today’s differ in several important respects. For the most part, yesteryear’s immigrants came here legally. Because there was no welfare state, we were guaranteed that they’d work as opposed to living off the rest of us. Furthermore, they sought to assimilate and adopt our culture and become Americans. That’s not so true today, where Hispanic activists seek to impose their language and culture on the rest of us. At some public schools, they’ve raised the Mexico flag atop the U.S. flag. They’ve announced that they seek to take back parts of the U.S. that were formerly Mexico.”

 U.S. Immigration History

A Description of the Immigrant Population

“…The Census Bureau estimated that the number of foreign-born people living in the United States topped 33 million and accounted for nearly 12 percent of the population in 2003–its highest share since 1930. Half of those people have arrived in the United States since 1990, and the foreign-born population is now growing at a rate of about 1 million per year. Between the 1990 and 2000 censuses, the foreign-born population grew by more than 11 million, accounting for about 35 percent of total population growth. Estimates of the portion of immigrants who are unauthorized range from 7 million to 10 million, although in the absence of reliable data, those estimates are subject to considerable uncertainty.

More than half of the total foreign-born population originated in Latin America, with Mexico by far the single largest source. The number of immigrants from Asia has also grown rapidly since the 1960s. In contrast, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the vast majority of immigrants came from Europe.

The foreign-born population is quite concentrated geographically, more so than people born in the United States. More than two-thirds of the foreign-born population reside in one of six states (California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, and New Jersey), and the majority of newly admitted legal immigrants continue to settle in those states. However, that concentration has diminished somewhat since 1990, and new major destinations include Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia, and Colorado. The foreign-born population also tends to be more concentrated in urban areas–especially central cities–than the native-born is, but as is the case generally in the United States, more than half of the foreign-born population now live in suburban areas.  …”

The Immigration Solution

Lou Dobbs: Businesses Exploit Foreign Guest Workers

Increasing the Supply of Labor

Measuring the Impact on Native-born Workers

The concern over the adverse labor market effects of immigration has always played a central role in the immigration debate. This Backgrounder introduces a new approach for estimating the wage effects of immigration. The approach stresses that the labor market impact of immigration needs to be measured at the national level and exploits the fact that — even within a particular schooling group — young immigrants are more likely to compete with young native workers than they are to compete with older native workers.

The study of the trends in the earnings of native workers over the 1960-2000 period indicates that immigration has indeed harmed their economic opportunities. The effect on wages, however, differs across education groups and race groups. For example, the immigrant influx that entered the country between 1980 and 2000 lowered the wage by 7.4 percent for high school dropouts, by 3.6 percent for college graduates, and by around 2 percent for both high school graduates and workers with some college. Of course, the impact is much larger for some specific experience groups within each educational category. Similarly, although this immigrant influx lowered the wages of white native workers by 3.5 percent, it lowered the wage of native-born blacks by 4.5 percent, and of native-born Hispanics by 5 percent.

It seems that Paul Samuelson was right after all: Wages fall when immigrants increase the size of the workforce. …”

Dropping Out

Immigrant Entry and Native Exit From the Labor Market, 2000-2005

The findings of this report call into the question the idea that America is desperately short of less-educated workers. In 2005, there were 3.8 million unemployed adult natives (18 to 64) with just a high school degree or less and another 19 million not in the labor force. Moreover, between 2000 and 2005 there was a significant deterioration in the labor market prospects of lesseducated adult natives. The labor force participation has fallen significantly for both natives without a high school degree and those with only a high school degree. Had it remained the same in 2005 as it had been in 2000, therewould have been an additional 450,000 adults without a high school degree in the labor force and 1.4 million more adult natives with a only high school degree in the labor force. This decline in particularly troubling because these workers already have lower labor force participation and higher unemployment than more educated workers. They also tend to be the poorest Americans. …”

“…While it would be a mistake to assume that every job taken by an immigrant represents a job lost by a native, it would also be a mistake to think that dramaticallyincreasing the number of less-educated immigrant workers has no impact on less–educated natives. This study calls into the question the wisdom of proposals to allow illegal immigrants to remain in the country, or to increase legal immigration still further. The plight of less-educated Americans has generally not been an important consideration for most political leaders in the ongoing debate over immigration. The findings of this report suggest that it should be.

The Illegal Alien Problem: Enforcing the Immigration Laws

“…By way of introduction, immigration law violators are not immigrants . They are aliens who are in the United States in violation of law. There is a profound difference between individuals who legally apply for admission and fulfill all the requirements for admission, and those who decide to enter the United States, or intentionally overstay their visa in violation of law. Labeling such violators as intending immigrants only confuses the issue and juxtaposing these two categories is specious logic. A few of the important differences include criminal and health backgrounds of intending entrants. A lawfully admitted alien must undergo health screening and will not be admitted if found to have a communicable disease. Similarly, certain criminal convictions exclude some aliens from admission into the United States as well. Of course, the smuggled alien, or one who enters without inspection, bypasses such rules and regulations. This is not to suggest that the majority of illegal entrants into the United States are criminals or diseased, but a percentage of this group are. Just how many criminal aliens are in the United States is difficult to determine primarily because many who are in custody either do not disclose their true status, or they are released before INS can remove them. Immigration Laws and the Illegal Alien Problem. …”

“…But the non-enforcement of immigration laws in general has an even more destructive effect. In many immigrant communities, assimilation into gangs seems to be outstripping assimilation into civic culture. Toddlers are learning to flash gang signals and hate the police, reports the Los Angeles Times. In New York City, “every high school has its Mexican gang,” and most 12- to 14-year-olds have already joined, claims Ernesto Vega, an illegal 18-year-old Mexican. Such pathologies only worsen when the first lesson that immigrants learn about U.S. law is that Americans don’t bother to enforce it. “Institutionalizing illegal immigration creates a mindset in people that anything goes in the U.S.,” observes Patrick Ortega, the news and public-affairs director of Radio Nueva Vida in southern California. “It creates a new subculture, with a sequela of social ills.” It is broken windows writ large.

For the sake of immigrants and native-born Americans alike, it’s time to decide what our immigration policy is—and enforce it.”

Democrats are a bit more evenly divided—49% opposed and 31% in favor—but Nancy Pelosi’s party certainly doesn’t provide a base of support for the Dream Act.
