Rubio jumps into White House race with jab at Hillary Clinton

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Monday entered the race for the White House, telling donors on a conference call that he is “uniquely qualified” to lead the Republican Party into battle against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

“I feel uniquely qualified to not just make that argument, but to outline the policies that we need to have in order to achieve it,” Rubio told the donors, according to The Associated Press.

Portraying Clinton as a candidate of the past, Rubio, 43, talked about the opportunity awaiting the GOP as it seeks to recapture the White House after eight years out of power.

“The Republican Party, for the first time in a long time, has a chance in this election to be the party of the future,” Rubio said on the call.

“Just yesterday, we heard from a leader from yesterday who wants to take us back to yesterday, but I feel that this country has always been about tomorrow.”

Rubio is expected to officially launch his candidacy Monday evening in Miami against the backdrop of the Freedom Tower, a setting that will give him a chance to tout his heritage as the son of Cuban parents who fled to America in the 1950s.

The Florida senator, who is serving in only his first term, is entering an increasingly crowded GOP field that already includes Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Rand Paul (Ky.). A host of other candidates are waiting in the wings, including Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

It had long been thought that Rubio would not run for the White House against Bush, given their personal history and shared base of support in the Florida Republican Party.

But much like Obama in 2008, Rubio appears willing to gamble his political future on the notion that his party will be looking for a fresh face, particularly given the GOP’s difficulty in attracting minority voters in the last two presidential elections.

If elected, Rubio would become the first Hispanic president in American history.

Rubio told ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos in an interview Monday that he believes he’s “absolutely” the best candidate for the Oval Office.

“I think the 21st century can be the American century, and I believe that I can lead this country in that direction,” he said.

Rubio is trying to generate buzz for his presidential campaign the day after Clinton jumped into the race with an online video where she declared her desire to be the “champion” of “everyday Americans.”

While Clinton’s rollout could overshadow Rubio’s, it could also play to his advantage by allowing him to draw a contrast with the former secretary of State, who has been a presence on the national stage for nearly three decades.

Thus far in the race, Rubio is polling outside the top tier of Republicans hopefuls.

But Rubio, a staunch conservative who was deemed a rising star after his election victory in 2010, is very well liked among Republican voters. Recent numbers from Democratic Public Policy Polling found that 55 percent had a favorable view of him, the highest of any potential GOP candidate.

Still, in order to win the nomination, Rubio will have to assure conservatives who were turned off by his involvement in the Senate’s failed immigration reform effort in 2013.

Rubio helped write a bill with Democrats that passed the Senate but died in the House after an outpouring of conservative opposition.

He has tried to make amends for his role crafting that bill, telling activists in February that he’s “learned” from the experience that securing the border must come first.

“You can’t just tell people you’re going to secure the border. … You have to do that, they have to see it, they have to see it working, and then they’re going to have a reasonable conversation with you about the other parts, but they’re not going to even want to talk about that until that’s done first,” he said at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Rubio is expected to make foreign policy one of the centerpieces of his campaign, and has emerged as one of the most vocal critics of Obama’s move to normalize diplomatic relations with Cuba.

Following his campaign launch, Rubio will return to Washington for Senate business, including a high-profile Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Iran.

On Friday, he’ll head to New Hampshire for a full day of campaigning in the critical primary state.

Mitt Romney warms to Marco Rubio as young senator cultivates relationship

By Robert Costa and Philip Rucker

Sen. Marco Rubio has been cultivating a relationship with Mitt Romney and his intimates, landing some of the 2012 Republican nominee’s top advisers and donors and persistently courting others as he readies an expected 2016 presidential campaign.

In a crowded field of contenders, the imprimatur of Romney could help clear Rubio’s path into the top tier. Since Romney announced in January that he would not run for the White House again, he and Rubio have had at least two lengthy phone calls in which Romney encouraged and mentored the 43-year-old Florida senator about the political landscape, according to a Romney associate.

[ Rubio is the ‘upside’ candidate of 2016 ]

Rubio and Romney have built a warm and trusting rapport, in contrast to the frostiness that exists between Romney and the two current GOP front-runners, former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. When Romney said in January that it was time to turn to the “next generation of Republican leaders,” it was widely interpreted as a swipe at Bush and a boost to a fresher face, such as Rubio.

In one-on-one meetings and communications with members of Romney’s inner circle, Rubio has impressed them with what they see as his compelling personal story, his depth and positions on policies, and his respect for Romney and his legacy in the Republican Party.

For Rubio, winning over key elements of the Romney coalition could give him a stronger foundation for a competitive campaign. But the support from Romney’s team alone would not guarantee Rubio success against Bush’s well-funded juggernaut or Walker’s grass-roots appeal.

Rubio has signed up two prominent former Romney officials in recent weeks. Rich Beeson, Romney’s 2012 national political director, has been tapped as Rubio’s likely deputy campaign manager, while Jim Merrill, Romney’s longtime New Hampshire strategist, is on board to play the same role for Rubio.

“For me, his substance, his skill and his story really stuck out,” Merrill said. “I always said if Mitt had decided to run again, I’d be with him. But when he decided not to go, I took a careful look at the field, and Marco represents the next generation of Republican leadership.”

Rubio’s courtship has been particularly intense with Spencer Zwick, who served as national finance chairman of Romney’s $1 billion campaign and is seen as the keeper of the Romney flame. Zwick said in an interview that the senator solicits advice from him regularly in phone calls, e-mails and text messages.

Rubio asks Zwick about how to assemble a campaign infrastructure and win the nomination, about lessons learned from Romney’s 2012 loss. Both fathers of young children, the two men talk about their families, too.

Zwick said he remains unaffiliated in the 2016 sweepstakes, but heaped praise on Rubio.

“Have you watched him speak?” Zwick asked. “This guy gives a message about the American dream that is compelling. People can say, ‘Oh, it’s the same speech every time,’ but you know what? Ronald Reagan did that, too, and it happened to work.”

Zwick called Rubio “an astute politician and a genuine person,” saying he “is universally well-liked by donors.”

Still, Bush has established himself early as the 2016 field’s fundraising dynamo, signing up many of Romney’s biggest bundlers, especially in New York and Florida, where he threatens to squeeze Rubio out.

A handful of former senior Romney aides and advisers have fanned out to work for an array of likely candidates besides Rubio, including Bush, Walker, former Texas governor Rick Perry, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

The biggest Romney fundraiser helping Rubio is Wayne Berman, a fixture in GOP fundraising circles and a co-chairman of Romney’s 2012 national finance committee. Many Romney loyalists — including friends and associates from Bain Capital, the Mormon Church or the Salt Lake City Olympics — have stayed unaffiliated and are looking for signals of Romney’s preference.

Romney is unlikely to endorse a candidate anytime soon and has invited most of the GOP 2016 field to his annual policy summit with top donors and business leaders in June in Park City, Utah, where Romney has a home.

Rubio also has roots in the Mountain West. Although he was born into the Catholic Church, Rubio lived for several years of his childhood in Las Vegas and, during that time, was baptized in the Mormon Church. In his teen years, he and his family returned to Florida and rejoined the Catholic Church, although many of Rubio’s cousins remain affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Some Romney loyalists harbor bad feelings about several candidates. Privately, they say Bush was not as active in his support as they expected in 2012 and that they think he tried to muscle Romney out of the 2016 race in January.

They hold a grudge against Walker for sharply criticizing Romney in his 2013 book, “Unintimidated,” for doing “a lousy job” connecting with voters. And many Romney insiders were steamed at Christie for his high-profile embrace of President Obama, after Hurricane Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore in the final week of the campaign.

By contrast, Romney’s allies almost universally praise Rubio, who was vetted as a possible vice-presidential pick and worked on Romney’s behalf during the campaign. They singled out his prime-time speech — introducing Romney — at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.

“He was an exceptional surrogate,” said Matt Waldrip, a former Romney finance aide and Zwick associate. “When he went to events, people showed up. He packed the house, whether fundraising or otherwise. He did whatever we asked him to,
clearly interested in helping the cause and helping the ticket.”

On Tuesday, Rubio met at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington for an hour with Lanhee Chen, Romney’s former policy director, who remains an adviser and friend. Chen said he was impressed by Rubio’s preparation for the meeting, which focused on foreign and domestic policy, as well as his depth on the issues.

“Senator Rubio has spent the last several years developing thoughtful conservative policy solutions, and he has a personal story that makes those solutions even more compelling,” Chen said.

Rubio’s camp has been in touch with other Romney associates, includingPeter Flaherty, a former Boston prosecutor who for years was Romney’s chief liaison to conservative movement leaders. Those talks have been informal, and Flaherty, like Chen and Zwick, remains uncommitted to a 2016 candidate.

“It’s elbow grease,” said one Romney confidant who spoke on the condition of anonymity to talk candidly about Rubio’s outreach. “Marco’s actually picking up the phone and calling people, saying, ‘Listen, I want to introduce myself and tell you who I am and what I stand for.’ It’s good politics.”

Terry Sullivan — who ran Romney’s South Carolina primary campaign in 2008 and for years has been a top Rubio adviser — has been helping him facilitate his outreach into Romney’s world. Sullivan is executive director of Rubio’s Reclaim America PAC and is his likely campaign manager. Rubio’s Senate chief of staff, Alberto Martinez, was a Florida-based adviser to Romney’s campaign in 2012.

Rubio is expected to formally launch his presidential bid next month, although aides stressed this week that no final decision has been made on the timing or venue. His advisers are preparing for a long and steady race, with a focus on laying the groundwork in the early-voting states.

Although he has been overshadowed recently by Bush and Walker, Rubio has generated some buzz among Republican insiders. His speeches at recent donor conclaves, including at the Club for Growth last month in Palm Beach, Fla., drew rave reviews.

Rubio has said he can raise the funds needed to mount a serious presidential bid. Norman Braman, a billionaire South Florida auto dealer, is expected to donate as much as $10 million to Rubio and his anticipated super PAC.

Rubio has his own national donor network, which he began cultivating in his upstart 2010 Senate campaign. The group includes donors who participate in the political network organized by industrialists Charles and David Koch, whose California meeting Rubio addressed in January.

But Rubio is making inroads elsewhere, too. He dined alone last week in Washington with Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire Las Vegas casino magnate who spent tens of millions of dollars trying to elect Romney in 2012.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), who was Romney’s liaison on Capitol Hill in 2012, recently explained why so many Republican insiders find Rubio appealing.

“I often have a vision of Marco in the cloakroom of the Senate, when not much is going on, trying to watch his son’s football games on his smartphone,” he said.

Blunt then used a descriptor that few would have applied to Romney: “humanizing.”

Ferguson and Napolitano – When “Fiscal” Conservatives Agree – Americas Debt Crisis

Harvard Professor Niall Ferguson and U.S. Federal Court Judge Andrew Napolitano would seem to be at odds on many topics. One they agree with is the spending of the U.S. government and the lack of fiscal responsibility. See how they explain the debt problem in the U.S. and the ways in which this crisis is harming america. Is the Obama administration oblivious, or not caring, when it comes to borrowing money to support social programs and defense spending? Will the Democrats and Republicans come together in time to defeat the massive overspending and budget deficit? See what these two men have to say.

Who is the ideal presidential candidate?

Transcript: Read Full Text of Sen. Rand Paul’s Campaign Launch

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul launched his presidential campaign in Louisville Tuesday.

I have a message, a message that is loud and clear and does not mince words. We have come to take our country back.

We have come to take our country back from the special interests that use Washington as their personal piggy bank, the special interests that are more concerned with their personal welfare than the general welfare.

The Washington machine that gobbles up our freedoms and invades every nook and cranny of our lives must be stopped.

Less than five years ago I stood just down the road in home town in Bowling Green and said those same words. I wasn’t supposed to win, no one thought I would.

Some people asked me, then why are you running? The answer is the same now as it was then. I have a vision for America. I want to be part of a return to prosperity, a true economic boom that lists all Americans, a return to a government restrained by the Constitution.

A return to privacy, opportunity, liberty. Too often when Republicans have won we have squandered our victory by becoming part of the Washington machine. That’s not who I am.

That’s not why I ran for office the first time just a few years ago. The truth is, I love my life as a small-town doctor. Every day I woke up, I felt lucky to be able to do the things I loved. More importantly, I was blessed to be able to do things that made a difference in people’s lives.

I never could have done any of this, though, without the help of my parents who are here today. I’d like you to join me and thank my mother and dad.

With my parents’ help, I was able to make it through long years of medical training to become an eye surgeon. For me there is nothing that compares with helping someone see better. Last August I was privileged to travel to Guatemala on a medical mission trip together with a team of surgeons from across the U.S.

We operated on more than 200 people who were blind or nearly blind from cataracts. I was grateful to be able to put my scrubs back on, peer into the oculars of the microscope, and focus on the task at hand, to take a surgical approach to fix a problem.

One day in Guatemala, a man arrived and told me that I’d operated on his wife the day before. His wife could see clearly for the first time in years, and she had begged him to get on the bus, travel the winding roads and come back to our surgery center. He too was nearly blind from hardened cataracts.

After his surgery, the next day, his wife sat next to me. As I unveiled the patch from his eyes, it was a powerful emotional moment for me to see them looking at each other clearly for the first time years to see the face they loved again.

As I saw the joy in their eyes, I thought, “This is why I became a doctor.”

In that moment, I also remembered my grandmother, who inspired me to become an eye surgeon. She spent hours with me as a kid. We would sort through her old coin collection, looking for wheat pennies and Indian heads. But as her vision began to fail, I became her eyes to inspect the faintness of the mint marks on the old weather-worn coins.

I went with my grandmother to the ophthalmologist as she had her corneas replaced. I was also with her when she received the sad news that macular generation had done irreparable harm to her eyes.

My hope… my hope that my grandmother would see again made me want to become an eye surgeon, to make a difference in people’s lives.

I’ve been fortunate. I’ve been able to enjoy the American Dream.

I worry, though, that the opportunity and hope are slipping away for our sons and daughters. As I watch our once-great economy collapse under mounting spending and debt, I think, “What kind of America will our grandchildren see”?

It seems to me that both parties and the entire political system are to blame.

Big government and debt doubled under a Republican administration.

And it’s now tripling under Barack Obama’s watch. President Obama is on course to add more debt than all of the previous presidents combined.

We borrow a million dollars a minute. This vast accumulation of debt threatens not just our economy, but our security.

We can wake up now and do the right thing. Quit spending money we don’t have.

This message of liberty is for all Americans, Americans from all walks of life. The message of liberty, opportunity and justice is for all Americans, whether you wear a suit, a uniform or overalls, whether you’re white or black, rich or poor.

In order to restore America, one thing is for certain, though: We cannot, we must not dilute our message or give up on our principles.

If we nominate a candidate who is simply Democrat Light, what’s the point?

Why bother?

We need to boldly proclaim our vision for America. We need to go boldly forth under the banner of liberty that clutches the Constitution in one hand and the Bill of Rights in the other.

Washington is horribly broken. I fear it can’t be fixed from within. We the people must rise up and demand action.

Congress will never balance the budget unless you force them to do so. Congress has an abysmal record with balancing anything. Our only recourse is to force Congress to balance the budget with a constitutional amendment.

I have been to Washington, and let me tell you, there is no monopoly on knowledge there.

I ran for office because we have too many career politicians. I believe it now more than ever.

We limit the President to two terms. It’s about time we limit the terms of Congress!

I want to reform Washington. I want common sense rules that will break the logjam in Congress.

That’s why I introduced a Read the Bills Act.

The bills are thousands of pages long. And no one reads them. They are often plopped on our desks only a few hours before a vote.

I’ve proposed something truly extraordinary — Let’s read the bills, every page!

The bills are 1,000 pages long and no one reads them. They are often plopped on our desk with only a few hours before a vote, so I propose something truly extraordinary. Let’s read the bills every day.

From the time I was a very young boy I was taught to love and appreciate America. Love of liberty pulses in my veins not because we have beautiful mountains or white sand beaches, although we do, and not because of our abundance of resources. It’s more visceral than that. Our great nation was founded upon the extraordinary notion that government should be restrained and freedom should be maximized.

America, to me, is that beacon. We are unique among the nations that our — that our country stands for freedom. Freedom nurtured our country from a rebellious group of colonies into the world’s greatest nation.

When tyranny threatened the world America led the way to rid the world of Nazis and fascist regimes. Resolutely we stood decade after decade against Communism, the engine of capitalism finally winning out against the sputtering, incompetent engine of socialism.

We won the Cold War.

America and freedom are so intertwined that people literally are dying to come here. The freedom we have fostered in America have unleashed genius and advancement like never before. Yet our great nation still needs new ideas and new answers to old problems.

From an early age I worked. I taught swimming lessons, I mowed lawns, I did landscaping, I put roofs on houses, I painted houses. I never saw work though as punishment. Who always gave me a sense of who I am.

Self-esteem cant be given; it must be earned.

Work is not punishment; work is the reward.

Two of my sons work minimum wage jobs while they go to college. I am proud of them as I see them realize the value of hard work. I can see their self-esteem grow as they cash their paychecks. I have a vision for America where everyone who wants to work will have a job.

Many Americans though are being left behind. The reward of work seems beyond their grasp. Under the watch of both parties, the poor seem to get poorer and the rich get richer. Trillion-dollar government stimulus packages has only widened the income gap.

Politically connected crones get taxpayer dollars by the hundreds of millions and poor families across America continue to suffer. I have a different vision, an ambitious vision, an ambitious vision, a vision that will offer opportunity to all Americans, especially those who have been left behind.

My plan includes economic freedom zones to allow impoverished areas like Detroit, West Louisville, Eastern Kentucky to prosper by leaving more money in the pockets of the people who live there.

Can you imagine what a billion-dollar stimulus could do for Detroit or for Appalachia? I’m convinced that most Americans want to work. I want to free up the great engine of American prosperity.

I want to see millions of Americans back at work. In my vision for America, we’ll bring back manufacturing jobs that pay well. How? We’ll dramatically lower the tax on American companies that wish to bring their profits home.

More than $2 trillion in American profit currently sits overseas. In my vision for America, new highways and bridges will be built across the country, not by raising your taxes, but by lowering the tax to bring this American profit home.

Even in this polarized Congress, we have a chance of passing this. I say let’s bring $2 trillion home to America, let’s bring it home now.

Liberal policies have failed our inner cities. Let’s just get the facts straight. They have failed our inner cities. Our schools are not equal, and the poverty gap continues to widen. Martin Luther King spoke of two Americas. He described them as two starkly different American experiences that exist side-by-side.

In one in America, people experience the opportunity of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. In the other America, people experience a daily ugliness that dashes hope and leaves only the fatigue of despair.

Although I was born into the America that experiences and believes in opportunity, my trips to Detroit, to Appalachia, to Chicago have revealed what I call an undercurrent of unease.

It’s time for a new way, a way predicated on justice, opportunity and freedom.

Those of us who have enjoyed the American dream must break down the wall that separates us from the other America. I want all our children to have the same opportunities that I had. We need to stop limiting kids in poor neighborhoods to failing public schools and offer them school choice.

It won’t happen, though, unless we realize that we can’t borrow our way to prosperity. Currently some $3 trillion comes into the U.S. Treasury. Couldn’t the country just survive on $3 trillion?

I propose we do something extraordinary. Let’s just spend what comes in.

In my vision for America, freedom and prosperity at home can only be achieved if we defend against enemies who are dead set on attacking us.

Without question we must defend ourselves and American interests from our enemies, but until we name the enemy, we can’t win the war.

The enemy is radical Islam. You can’t get around it.

And not only will I name the enemy, I will do whatever it takes to defend America from these haters of mankind.

We need a national defense robust enough to defend against all attack, modern enough to deter all enemies, and nimble enough to defend our vital interests. But we also need a foreign policy that protects American interests and encourages stability, not chaos.

At home, conservatives understand that government is the problem, not the solution.

Conservatives should not succumb, though, to the notion that a government inept at home will somehow succeed in building nations abroad.

I envision an America with a national defense unparalleled, undefeatable and unencumbered by overseas nation-building.

I envision a national defense that promotes, as Reagan put it, peace through strength.

I believe in applying Reagan’s approach to foreign policy to the Iran issue. Successful negotiations with untrustworthy adversaries are only achieved from a position of strength.

We’ve brought Iran to the table through sanctions that I voted for. Now we must stay strong. That’s why I’ve cosponsored legislation that ensures that any deal between the U.S. and Iran must be approved by Congress.

Not — not only is that good policy, it’s the law.

It concerns me that the Iranians have a different interpretation of the agreement. They’re putting out statement that say completely the opposite of what we’re saying. It concerns me that we may attempt, or the president may attempt, to unilaterally and prematurely halt sanctions.

I will oppose any deal that does not end Iran’s nuclear ambitions and have strong verification measures.

And I will insist that the final version be brought before Congress.

The difference between President Obama and myself, he seems to think you can negotiate from a position of weakness. Yet everyone needs to realize that negotiations are not inherently bad. The trust (inaudible) verify is required in any negotiation, but then our goal always should be and always is peace, not war.

We must realize, though, that we do not project strength by borrowing money from China to send it to Pakistan.

Let’s quit building bridges in foreign countries and use that money to build some bridges here at home.

It angers me to see mobs burning our flag and chanting “Death to America” in countries that receive millions of dollars in our foreign aid.

I say it must end. I say not one penny more to these haters of America.

To defend our country, we do need to gather intelligence on the enemy. But when the intelligence director is not punished for lying under oath, how are we to trust our government agencies?

Warrantless searches of Americans’ phones and computer records are un-American and a threat to our civil liberties.

I say that your phone records are yours. I say the phone records of law-abiding citizens are none of their damn business.

Is this where we light up the phones?

The president created this vast dragnet by executive order. And as president on day one, I will immediately end this unconstitutional surveillance.

I believe we can have liberty and security and I will not compromise your liberty for a false sense of security, not now, not ever.

We must defend ourselves, but we must never give up who we are as a people. We must never diminish the Bill of Rights as we fight this long war against evil. We must believe in our founding documents. We must protect economic and personal liberty again.

America has much greatness left in her. We are still exceptional and we are still a beacon for the world. We will thrive when we believe in ourselves again.

I see an America strong enough to deter foreign aggression, yet wise enough to avoid unnecessary intervention.

I see an America where criminal justice is applied equally and any law that disproportionately incarcerates people of color is repealed.

I see an America with a restrained IRS that cannot target, cannot harass American citizens for their political or religious beliefs.

I see our big cities once again shining and beckoning with creativity and ingenuity, with American companies offering American jobs. With your help, this message will ring from coast to coast, a message of liberty, justice and personal responsibility. Today begins the journey to take America back.

To rescue a great country now adrift, join me as together we seek a new vision for America. Today I announce with God’s help, with the help of liberty lovers everywhere, that I am putting myself forward as a candidate for president of the United States of America.

1* Is the U.S. government too aggressive or not aggressive enough in deporting those who are in this country illegally? Or is the number of deportations about right?

2* Suppose a woman enters the United States as an illegal alien and gives birth to a child in the United States. Should that child automatically become a citizen of the United States?

3* Should illegal immigrants who have American-born children be exempt from deportation?

4* Before anyone receives local, state or federal government services, should they be required to prove they are legally allowed to be in the United States?

5* How concerned are you that efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens?

Immigration

Most Voters Want More Aggressive Deportation Policies

More voters than ever feel the United States is not aggressive enough in deporting those who are here illegally, even as President Obama continues to push his plan to make up to five million illegal immigrants safe from deportation.

Just 16% of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. government is too aggressive in deporting those who are in the country illegally. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 62% believe the government is not aggressive enough in deporting these illegal immigrants, up from 52% a year ago and 56%in November. Fifteen percent (15%) feel the current number of deportations is about right. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Thirty-two percent (32%) believe illegal immigrants who have American-born children should be exempt from deportation, an element of Obama’s plan, but 51% now disagree. In November, voters were much more closely divided: 38% said they should be exempt from deportation, and only 42% disagreed. Seventeen  percent (17%) remain undecided.

But then most voters (54%) continue to feel that a child born to an illegal immigrant mother in the United States should not automatically become a U.S. citizen, as is now the case.  Thirty-eight percent (38%) favor the current policy of automatic citizenship for these children. Opposition has ranged from 51% to 65% in surveys since April 2006. Support has been in the 28% to 41% range in that same period.

An overwhelming 83% of voters think someone should be required to prove they are legally allowed in the United States before receiving local, state or federal government services. Just 12% disagree. These findings have changed little over the past four years.

Still, 54% are concerned that efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens. Forty-three percent (43%) don’t have that concern. This includes 25% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations and 12% who are Not at All Concerned. This, too, is consistent with past surveying.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on April 1-2, 2015 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Most voters continue to believe federal government policies encourage illegal immigration.

Most voters in nearly every demographic category agree that the federal government is not aggressive enough in its deportation policies. Most also believe very strongly that someone should have to prove they are a U.S. citizen before obtaining government benefits.

Most women and men agree that a child born to an illegal immigrant in this country should not automatically become a U.S. citizen.

Voters under 40 are only slightly less supportive than their elders of more aggressive deportation policies. But they are much more likely than those 40 and over to think that a child born to an illegal alien in this country should automatically become a U.S. citizen.

Sixty percent (60%) of whites oppose automatic citizenship; 51% of blacks and 56% of other minority voters favor it.

Eighty-one percent (81%) of Republicans and 68% of voters not affiliated with either major party think the government is not aggressive enough in deporting illegal immigrants. Just 40% of Democrats agree. But then Democrats are far more concerned than the others that deportation efforts may end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens.

Democrats by a 51% to 33% margin believe illegals who have American-born children should be exempt from deportation. Sixty-two percent (62%) of GOP voters and 60% of unaffiliateds disagree.

Most voters continue to believe that securing the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already here and think plans to offer legal status to such individuals will just encourage more illegal immigration.

More than half of voters remain opposed to Obama’s new plan that will allow nearly five million illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs. Forty-seven percent (47%) think Congress should try to find ways to stop the president’s plan, while 41% believe Congress should allow this decision to stand.

Voters also continue to strongly support voter ID laws and don’t consider them discriminatory.

Voters Still Fault Feds For Illegal Immigration

Most voters continue to believe federal government policies encourage illegal immigration, but they still aren’t convinced states should go it alone in enforcing immigration laws.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters think the policies and practices of the federal government encourage people to enter the United States illegally, the highest level of cynicism since June 2012. Twenty-eight percent (28%) disagree, while 15% are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The number of voters who believe the federal government encourages illegal immigration reached a high of 62% in September 2010 but has mostly stayed in the mid-to high-50s in regular surveying for several years.

Still, 48% think relying on the federal government rather than states to enforce immigration laws is the best approach to dealing with illegal immigration. That’s down two points from last August  but is in line with findings since February 2011. Forty-two percent (42%) think it’s better to allow individual states to act on their own. Ten percent (10%) are undecided. Support for state action was slightly higher in 2011.

Most voters (61%) still favor strict government sanctions on employers who hire illegal immigrants. Twenty-four percent (24%) oppose such sanctions, while 15% are undecided. Support for these sanctions have run in the high 50s to low 60s for years, and Americans told us in a 2013 survey that employer sanctions are the most effective way to stop illegal immigration.

Voters remain more conflicted when it comes to landlords who rent or sell property to illegal immigrants. Forty-four percent (44%) favor strict government sanctions against them. Thirty-four percent (34%) are opposed, while 22% are undecided. These attitudes haven’t changed much over the years either.

But 57% believe if a police officer pulls someone over for a traffic violation, the officer should automatically check to see if that person is in the country legally. Thirty-three percent (33%) disagree, and 10% are not sure. These findings also have stayed fairly steady for years, although support for these checks hit a high of 73% in March 2009.

(Want a free daily e-mail update? If it’s in the news, it’s in our polls). Rasmussen Reports updates are also available on Twitter or Facebook.

The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on March 4-5, 2015 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Most voters continue to believe that securing the border is more important than legalizing the status of undocumented workers already here and think plans to offer legal status to such individuals will just encourage more illegal immigration.

Seventy-five percent (75%) of Republicans and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major political party believe the policies and practices of the federal government encourage illegal immigration. Democrats by a narrow 44% to 39% disagree. Most Republicans (62%) and unaffiliated voters by a 46% to 42% margin think states should be allowed to enforce immigration laws on their own, but 68% of Democrats think they should rely on the feds.

Sixty percent (60%) of voters who believe government policies encourage people to come here illegally favor allowing states to act on their own to enforce immigration laws. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of those who don’t believe government policies encourage illegal immigration think enforcement of such laws should be left to the federal government.

White voters are generally more supportive of strict sanctions against employers who hire illegal immigrants and landlords who rent or sell property to such individuals than black and other minority voters are. White voters also show stronger support for automatic police checks during traffic stops.

More than half of all voters remain opposed to President Obama’s new plan that will allow nearly five million illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs. Forty-seven percent (47%) of voters think Congress should try to find ways to stop the president’s plan, while 41% believe Congress should allow this decision to stand.

Most voters continue to think the federal government should only do what the president and Congress agree on. They also still believe a president should not be able to change laws passed by Congress on his own.

However, just 17% of voters are even somewhat confident that the president and Republicans in Congress will be able to work together to do what’s best for the American people, and that includes only four percent (4%) who are Very Confident.

rand_paul

Just gave up on Rand Paul as future President of the United States.

Enforce the existing immigration laws and deport illegal aliens now.

Both the Democratic and Republican parties are selling out the American people.

Get a clue Senator, there are over 25 million American citizens looking for a full-time job.

The number of illegal aliens is not 11 million but over 40 million.

What we have now is not de facto amnesty but the unwillingness to enforce existing immigration law by both the Democratic and Republican parties.

More and more American citizens are leaving both political parties over this issue and out of control government spending.

The number of independents is growing while the number of Democrats and Republicans is declining.

Pass comprehensive immigration reform and the Democratic Party will get 75% of the formerly illegal alien vote.

The FairTax is much better than a flat income tax that does not require the huge IRS to collect.

Looks like Ted Cruz will be getting my vote.

I am a pro-life, limited government classical liberal and support the Tea Party and want balanced budgets now and budgeting to last years tax collections and eliminating baseline budgeting.

While I wanted to support Senator Paul for President, I will not be doing so now.

I have been a libertarian conservative that used to vote for Republicans, but no longer.

Both the Democratic and Republican  parties have been captured by big interventionist government statists (BIGS).

Time to start another political party that puts the American citizens first and not illegal aliens.

The Republican Party has become the party of big interventionist government statists.

Start another political party or stay home.

Presidents Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhower enforced immigration law.

It is the responsibility of the Federal government under the Constitution to protect the states from invasions.

If millions of illegal aliens are over staying their visas and entering the U.S. illegally, this is an invasion.

Enforce existing immigration laws by removing illegal aliens from their place of employment and deporting them.

Stop encouraging and rewarding illegal behavior.

Otherwise you will keep attracting more and more illegal aliens.

Buffett Rule Fails in Senate, 51-45

By Josh Barro,

“…the so-called Buffett Rule (imposing a minimum 30 percent federal income tax rate on those making at least $2 million per year) came up for a vote in the Senate and was defeated. There were 51 votes in favor and 45 opposed, but 60 votes were required for cloture and so the proposal could not proceed.

The vote was nearly along party lines, with Susan Collins (Maine) the only Republican to vote yes and Mark Pryor (Arkansas) the only Democrat to vote no. Joe Lieberman, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, also broke with his party and opposed the proposal, though he wasn’t in Washington D.C. today and so didn’t actually cast a vote. Lieberman said “I am opposed to the Buffett Rule because it would double to 30 percent the capital gains tax on one group of investors”—a statement that reflects the fact that the Buffett Rule debate is fundamentally a debate about whether we should have a preferential tax rate for capital gains. …”

Dems Lay Trap for GOP with Buffett Rule

By KIM DIXON and PATRICK TEMPLE-WEST, Reuters

“….President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats are laying a political trap for Republicans to be sprung on Monday when the U.S. Senate is slated to vote on the proposed “Buffett Rule,” which would slap a minimum tax on the highest-income Americans. With polls showing strong public support for the rule, Democrats plan to bring it up for a procedural vote in the Senate. Republicans are solidly against it and the proposal is not expected to garner enough votes to move forward.

Even if it does advance in the Senate, it is not expected to be taken up in the House of Representatives, which is controlled by Republicans. Democrats control the Senate, but just barely. Despite the proposal’s poor outlook, Democrats hope that the Senate vote and the debate around it will help them politically ahead of the November 6 elections by casting the Republicans and their presumptive presidential candidate Mitt Romney, himself a multi-millionaire, as the party of the wealthy.

Republicans have attacked the Buffett Rule as a diversion from the weak economy. They also argue that raising taxes on the rich would hit small businesses and discourage their growth. Here is a Q+A on the legislation and the issues behind it.

What Is the Buffett Rule?
Named after billionaire Warren Buffett, who backs it, the rule would require individuals with adjusted gross income of more than $1 million, or $500,000 for married individuals filing separately, to pay at least 30 percent in taxes. Democrats have been careful to stress that the tax would not apply to people with $1 million or more in assets, who comprise a much larger slice of the U.S. population than those with annual incomes of $1 million or more. About 433,000 U.S. households earn more than $1 million a year. That is only about 0.3 percent of all taxpayers, according to the Tax Policy Center, a research group. The bill being voted on in the Senate, sponsored by Democratic Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, would impose the 30-percent tax on adjusted gross income after a modified deduction for charitable giving and certain other tax credits. …”

“The collectivists idolize only the one true church, only the great nation . . . only the true state; everything else they condemn. For that reason all collectivists doctrines are harbingers of irreconcilable hatred and war to the death.”

“Individualism resulted in the fall of autocratic government, the establishment of democracy, the evolution of capitalism, technical improvements, and an unprecedented rise in standards of living. It substituted enlightenment for old superstitions, scientific methods of research for inveterate prejudices.”

“Capitalism means free enterprise, sovereignty of the consumers in economic matters, and sovereignty of the voters in political matters. Socialism means full government control of every sphere of the individuals life and the unrestricted supremacy of the government in its capacity as central board of production management.”

“There is simply no other choice than this: either to abstain from interference in the free play of the market, or to delegate the entire management of production and distribution to the government. Either capitalism or socialism: there exists no middle way.”

Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich: My Opponent is Barack Obama

Newt Gingrich on the Fair Tax

21st Century Contract with America

PART 1: LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS

Executive Summary

  1. Repeal Obamacare and pass a replacement that saves lives and money by empowering patients and doctors, not bureaucrats and politicians.
  2. Return to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve and creating a training requirement for extended federal unemployment benefits to encourage work and improve the quality of our workforce.
  3. Unleash America’s full energy production potential in oil, natural gas, coal, biofuels, wind, nuclear oil shale and more, creating jobs,  stimulating a sustainable manufacturing boom, lowering gasoline and other energy prices, increasing government revenues, and bolstering national security.
  4. Save Medicare and Social Security by giving Americans more choices and tools to live longer, healthier lives with greater financial independence.
  5. Balance the federal budget by freeing job-creators to grow the economy, reforming entitlements, and implementing waste cutting and productivity improvement systems such as Lean Six Sigma to eliminate waste and fraud. Pass a balanced budget amendment to keep it balanced.
  6. Control the border by January 1, 2014 and establish English as the official language of government; reform the legal visa system, and make it much easier to deport criminals and gang members while making it easier for law abiding visitors to come to the US.
  7. Revitalize our national security system to meet 21st century threats by restructuring and adequately funding our security agencies to function within a grand strategy for victory over those who seek to kill us or limit American power.
  8. Maximize the speed and impact of medical breakthroughs by removing unnecessary obstacles that block new treatments from reaching patients and emphasizing research spending towards urgent national priorities, like brain science with its impact on Alzheimer’s, autism, Parkinson’s, mental health and other conditions knowledge of the brain will help solve.
  9. Restore the proper role of the judicial branch by using the clearly delineated powers available to the president and Congress to correct, limit, or replace judges who violate the Constitution.
  10. Enforce the Tenth Amendment by starting an orderly transfer of power and responsibility from the federal government back “to the states, respectively, or to the people,” as the Constitution requires. Over the next year, state and local officials and citizens will be asked to identify the areas which can be transferred back home.

2. Return to robust job creation with a bold set of tax cuts and regulatory reforms that will free American entrepreneurs to invest and hire, as well as by reforming the Federal Reserve and creating a training requirement for extended federal unemployment benefits to encourage work and improve the quality of our workforce.

Government does not create jobs. The American people create jobs.

Ronald Reagan understood this truth.  His bold series of tax cuts and deregulatory measures upon taking office ended the economic stagnation of the 1970s for good by freeing American businesses to create nearly 20 million new jobs in less than a decade. In September 1983 alone the Reagan recovery led the American people to create 1,100,000 new jobs, more jobs than the first eight months of 2011 combined.

We understood these principles when we won the first Republican majority in the House in 40 years in 1994. Balanced budgets, streamlined government and the biggest capital gains tax cut in history led to unemployment falling to under 4% by 2000.

My administration will build on this time-tested model: A profound restructuring and reduction of the tax and regulatory burden on Americans, with the very achievable goal of 4% unemployment and millions of new jobs within only a few years.

JOBS AND PROSPERITY PLAN:  LOWERING TAXES

First, I pledge to veto any tax increase. American families and businesses deserve certainty and predictability, and I will work to make permanent all current rates of taxation that would otherwise increase automatically in 2013.

My Jobs and Prosperity plan will then make four major tax cuts:

    • Reduce the Corporate Tax to 12.5%.  Reducing the corporate income tax, currently the second highest in the developed world, will make America the number one destination in the world for foreign investment and the millions of jobs that will accompany this designation. Most of the $1.4 trillion in profits locked up overseas by the current 35% tax rate will come home to be reinvested and distributed at a 12.5% rate.
    • Abolish the Capital Gains Tax.  Lowering the cost of investment means hundreds of thousands of more jobs will be created. It happens every time we lower the capital gains tax. At a zero percent rate, hundreds of billions of dollars in new investments will pour into the United States to create new firms and build new factories.
    • Abolish the Death Tax.  This law is economically misguided and morally indefensible, and it is time for the government to stop destroying family wealth. Abolishing the death tax ensures family-owned businesses can focus on creating jobs and growing rather than on dealing with tax law.
    • 100% Expensing. We want American workers to have the most modern and most productive equipment in the world, and we can encourage this development by allowing companies to write off all their new equipment in one year.

JOBS AND PROSPERITY PLAN:  TAX SIMPLIFICATION WITH AN OPTIONAL FLAT TAX

My legislation will also include an optional flat tax of 15% or less.  All tax filers would be given the option to pay their income taxes subject to current income tax provisions or to pay under a lower single rate of taxation with limited deductions.  A revenue neutral flat tax reform would save hundreds of billions of dollars in compliance costs each year and would eliminate the need for taxes on savings, dividends, and capital gains.

This optional flat tax system will create a new personal deduction of $12,000 for every American. This deduction is well above the current poverty level, ensuring that this new system does not unfairly target the poor. The current $1,000 tax credit for each child aged sixteen or younger would also apply, as would the current earned income tax credit (EITC).

An optional flat tax reform will be simple: tax returns can be done on one sheet of paper. Subtract from income a standard deduction and deductions for charity and home ownership, multiply the result by the fixed single rate of taxation of at most 15%, and the process is over.

Gone will be the stressful hours spent figuring out whether your military service or marital status will adversely affect your return. No more headaches trying to determine where estimated tax payments go. Tax preparation fees could be money spent on something more rewarding.

Such an optional flat tax system would create a new standard deduction, which would be above the established poverty level, meaning an optional flat tax would not unfairly target the poor.

An optional flat tax would eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax. And if a person had twice as much income as another, he or she would be taxed twice as much. Furthermore, a single rate tax structure would eliminate taxes on savings, capital gains, and dividends. Saving would increase and businesses would expand to create new jobs.

This concept of an optional flat tax would give American taxpayers an opportunity to choose simplicity versus complexity and a single rate over a lot of deductions.

Because the flat tax is optional, it does not raise taxes on a single person or unfairly impact seniors, lower income workers, or the poor.

Let’s Bump Plans: A Comparison of Gingrich and Perry’s Flat Tax Plans

http://www.newt.org/news/lets-bump-plans-comparison-gingrich-and-perrys-flat-tax-plans

Gingrich’s Plan Far Bolder than Perry’s Plan and Will Lead to Far More Robust Job Creation and Capital Investment in United States

Gingrich Perry Verdict: Gingrich Plan Better
Rate 15% 20% Gingrich has advocated for several years an optional flat tax rate of 15%, which when coupled with Gingrich’s bold entitlement and regulatory reforms, will usher in another era of booming economic growth and new, higher-paying jobs. The Perry rate of 20% is higher than the 17% that Steve Forbes proposed in his 1996 and 2000 presidential campaign.
Who Gets to Make Deductions for Charitable Giving and Home Ownership?? Everyone Families making less than $500,000/year By creating two separate classes of taxpayers, the Perry plan buys into the same class warfare that characterizes the Obama and Romney economic plans. The fact that there are still two brackets – even under a supposed “flat tax” plan – calls into question whether this is really a flat tax at all.
State and Local Tax Deductions Not deductible in optional flat tax plan Deductible in optional flat tax plan The Gingrich plan has a lower rate so less need for state and local deductions.  The deduction is a federal subsidy for states to adopt higher state and local taxes. Removing the subsidy would lead states to reduce state and local taxes, or adopt their own flat tax reforms. The Perry plan erodes states’ competitive advantages by making state and local taxes deductible in his optional flat tax plan.
Who Benefits from Elimination of Capital Gains Tax? Everyone Depends whether capital gains is long term or short term.  Perry’s plan eliminates cap gains only for long term. The Gingrich plan maximizes the capital investment and job creation that will accompany the elimination of this tax. The Perry plan only goes halfway, and by levying up to 35% tax on short-term capital gains, it will discourage investment, venture capital, and new jobs creation.
Corporate Income Tax 12.5% 20% The Gingrich plan will create a boom of new American entrepreneurship by dramatically cutting the corporate tax rate to one of the lowest in the developed world. The Perry plan relies upon a short term “tax holiday,” then only drops the corporate tax rate to 20% — only average in the developed world, and still over 20% higher than our closest economic competitor Canada, which has a rate of only 16.5%.  Gingrich rate makes U.S. more competitive than Canada.
Payroll Taxes Eventually replace payroll tax with personal accounts, financing better results No change in existing payroll tax Gingrich supports personal savings investment and insurance accounts that would eventually be expanded to finance all of the benefits now financed by the payroll tax, allowing that tax ultimately to be phased out altogether.
Family Deductions Under Flat Tax Plan $12,000 personal deduction for every individual. Both the EITC and the Child Tax Credit are preserved in Gingrich’s optional flat tax system. $12,500 personal deduction for every individual. No information provided. Preserving the EITC and Child Tax Credit are critical to ensure that the optional flat tax system does not unfairly target low-income Americans. Gingrich passed the first child tax credit as Speaker in 1997, and will preserve this credit and the EITC under his optional flat tax system.
Record in Achieving Dramatic Jobs and Economic Recovery at the National Level? Yes. Substantial. See record at right. None. Speaker Gingrich’s Record (1995-1999):•    Eleven Million New Jobs
•    Four Straight Balanced Budgets for the First Time Since the 1920s.
•    Unemployment rate of 4.2%.
•    Federal Spending Held to the Slowest Growth Rate Since the Early 1950s (avg. of 2.9% a year).
•    Venture capital investments grew 500% in three years and manufacturing sector grew to 17.43 million jobs.
•    Bipartisan Welfare Reform that Lifted Millions from Poverty.
•    Over $400 Billion of National Debt Paid Down
Gingrich Romney Verdict: Gingrich Plan Better
Personal Income Tax Choice of current system or 15% flat tax with personal, homeowner, and charitable deductions Maintain current tax rates The Gingrich plan gives Americans a choice to continue to file under the existing system, or to eliminate compliance costs and hours of paperwork by filing with a flat rate of 15%. The Romney plan hopes to make taxes “flatter” in the future, but offers no immediate choice and no immediate relief.
Capital Gains Tax for Individuals Eliminate tax completely Depends how much money the taxpayer makes.  Romney’s plan eliminates capital gains taxes for those making less than $200,000/year, but maintains the current system, with rates of up to 35%, for the rest. The Gingrich plan maximizes the capital investment and job creation that will accompany the elimination of this tax, and acknowledges that a tax reform is only fair if all Americans receive relief. The Romney plan determines that some Americans should pay no taxes on a particular investment, while other Americans should pay taxes of up to 35% on the same investment.
Capital Gains Tax for Corporations Eliminate tax completely Maintain current system The Gingrich plan is modeled on the success of the 1997 capital gains cut, which spurred job creation and a 500% increase in venture capital in just 3 years. The Romney plan maintains the corporate capital gains tax, an unequivocal burden on American job-creators who need to be freed to grow, prosper, and compete in a 21st century global economy.
Corporate Income Tax 12.5% 25% The Gingrich plan will create a boom of new American entrepreneurship by dramatically cutting the corporate tax rate to one of the lowest in the developed world. The Romney plan will still be average-to-high compared to the rest of the developed world, and still over 50% higher than our closest economic competitor Canada, which has a rate of only 16.5%.  Gingrich rate makes U.S. more competitive than Canada.
Payroll Tax Eventually replace payroll tax with personal accounts, financing better results No information Gingrich supports personal savings investment and insurance accounts that would eventually be expanded to finance all of the benefits now financed by the payroll tax, allowing that tax ultimately to be phased out altogether.
Medicare reform Choice between the traditional system or opportunity to purchase private insurance with premium support No information Under the Gingrich Plan, any American who wants to enjoy the existing Medicare system will be able to do so. Americans can also opt to transition to a more personalized system in the private sector with greater options for better care, where they would receive premium support to purchase private insurance.

Rick Perry Announces His Plan to Cut, Balance & Grow

Political Checklist: Perry’s Flat Tax Plan and Obama’s Solo Plan

Steve Forbes Endorses Rick Perry and His Plan to Cut, Balance, and Grow

The FairTax Is Better Than Any Flat Tax!

What is the FairTax?

Why is the FairTax better than a flat income tax?

The FairTax: It’s Time

In Grey Court, South Carolina, on Oct.25, Texas Governor Rick Perry, Republican presidential candidate, unveiled his plan, “Cut, Balance and Grow”, for the U.S. economy. Perry’s proposed an optional flat income tax rate of 20 percent to replace the existing federal income tax system. Taxpayers would have the option to pay either the new flat 20 percent rate or continue paying income taxes based on the existing complex income tax system.

The individual standard tax exemption would be increased to $12,500 plus each dependent would also have a $12,500 tax exemption. A family of four earning $50,000 per year would be exempt from income taxes. Perry’s tax reform plan would also keep the mortgage interest, state taxes and charitable deductions for families earning less than $500,000.

Dividend, interest and capital gains taxes, the Alternative Minimum tax and estate taxes would all be eliminated. Social Security benefits would no longer be taxed.

Perry would not change Social Security and Medicare benefits for those currently receiving or soon-to-be receiving these benefits. However, Perry would gradually increase the eligibility age for Social Security and Medicare.

Young workers would be permitted to invest part of their Social Security payroll taxes in investment private accounts.

Americans eligible for Medicare would receive either a credit or payment to purchase a health insurance plan of their choice. Currently the government pays benefits directly.

Companies doing business abroad would be encouraged to return their profits to the U.S. with a one-time reduced tax of 5.25 percent. With this tax incentive, more than $1 trillion in profits is estimated would be returned to the U.S. This would create several million new jobs as the profits are invested in the U.S. The corporate rate would be reduced from the second highest in the world at 35 percent to a more competitive 20 percent.

By design the Perry plan would deeply cut tax rates and in turn this may lead to cuts in tax revenues. In order to avoid large deficits, where government spending outlays exceed tax revenues, the federal budget would need to be massively cut including discretionary spending and non-discretionary entitlement spending.

In terms of federal government spending, Perry would balance the budget in 2020, end all earmarks, reform entitlement spending for Social Security and Medicare, and limit government spending outlays to 18 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Perry would amend the Constitution to require balanced budgets.

Steve Forbes, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 on a proposed 17 percent flat tax, is Perry’s chief adviser for the optional flat tax plan.

Club for Growth president, Chris Chocola, said “Rick Perry’s plan for tax reform would be massively pro-growth.”

Perry’s plan is already being compared and contrasted with his two leading rivals for the nomination, Herman Cain and Mitt Romney. Cain’s 9-9-9 tax reform plan would scrap the existing income tax code and replace it and payroll taxes with a flat 9 percent business tax, a flat 9 percent individual tax and a 9 percent national sales consumption tax on the sale of new goods and services.

Cain’s plan is a hybrid of both flat income taxes and a consumption tax. The 9-9-9 plan was designed to be a bridge to the FairTax, which is a national sales tax that would replace all federal income, payroll, capital gains, Alternative Minimum Tax, gift and estate taxes.

Romney has proposed a plan that would cut the tax rates for corporations and personal savings and investment. Romney would eliminate taxes on dividend, interest and capital gains for individuals earning less than $200,000. In the past, Romney has favored a flat tax provided it did not hurt the middle class.

Perry’s tax reform plan is positioned between the bolder Cain plan and the more modest Romney plan. Ron Paul has yet to explicitly disclose his own tax reform plan. Paul has stated he would eliminate the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), permanently close five departments and cut spending by $1 trillion in the first year. This would seem to indicate he might support the FairTax with a lower rate such as 20 percent or less, call it FairTax Less.

Progressive Republican Rick Perry’s Flat Tax Reform Distraction From More Illegal Immigration–Videos

If the Republican Party nominates either Mitt Romney or Rick Perry as their candidate, I will not vote for them and stay home.

Voting for the lesser of two progressive evils is still evil.

The only difference between a Progressive Democratic and a Progressive Republican is who gets paid off.

A plague on both political parties.

Obama is distracting the American people from his failed economic policies that have resulted in unemployment rates being above 8 percent for his entire administration by his American Jobs Act and Occupy Wall Street.

Perry is distracting the American people from his pro illegal immigration policies by his flat tax proposal.

Romney is distracting the American people from his four years as governor with his 25 years in businesss refrain, despite continually flip-flopping on the issues.

I will not vote for Obama, Perry or Romney.

I do not trust them.

All three have lied to the American people.

All three are progressive big government interventionists at home and abroad.

None of them are conservatives or libertarian in terms of their political philosophy.

Paul is a conservative libertarian that suported Ron Reagan when Reagan truly needed the support of the conservative base.

Ron Paul is the only candidate that is focused on the real problem, namely, out of control government spending with massive government deficits and debt.

Ron Paul wants to get rid of the IRS  and Federal income taxation, cut government spending by $1 trillion and balance the budget.

I trust Ron Paul

I am voting for Ron Paul.

Time for Ron Paul to offer his own FairTax Less proposal with a 20 percent rate that would replace all other Federal income and payroll (Social Security and Medicare) taxes.

14 Reasons Why Rick Perry Would Be A Really, Really Bad President

Perry Proposes 20 Percent Flat Tax

Perry would keep popular deductions for mortgage interest and charitable gifts.

“…Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry unveiled a sweeping economic agenda Monday, highlighted by a plan to level a voluntary 20 percent “flat tax” on all taxpayers who will accept it in place of what they’re paying now.

The plan, outlined in a Wall Street Journal op-ed column a day before the Texas governor was set to announce it in South Carolina, also calls for capping federal spending at 18 percent of the country’s GDP while allowing younger earners to privatize their Social Security accounts — a controversial proposal that echoes President George W. Bush’s failed 2005 attempt to overhaul the retirement program.

But the most significant feature of Perry’s plan is his call for a flat tax rate of 20 percent. Taxpayers who don’t want to pay a 20 percent flat income tax, he said, can keep their current rate.Current marginal income tax rates range from 10 percent to 35 percent, depending on taxpayers’ income. …”

The FairTax (National Consumption Sales Tax) vs. The Flat Tax (One Rate Federal Income Tax)–Who Pays The Most Federal Individual Income Tax? Videos

“The income tax created more criminals than any other single act of government.”
~Barry Goldwater

Income Tax vs. Consumption Tax

What is the FairTax legislation?

“…What is the FairTax plan?

The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 13) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax  administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.

The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.

The FairTax:

  • Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
  • Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
  • Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
  • Allows American products to compete fairly
  • Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
  • Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
  • Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
  • Abolishes the IRS

We offer a library of information throughout this Web site about the features and benefits of the FairTax plan. Please explore! …”

Why Is The Fair Tax so Controversial–My Contribution to Fair Tax Friday

Mar 25th, 2011 by David Anderson

“…The result is the tax code is 71,684 pages (2010). In 2006, before Pelosi took over, it was 61,845 pages.   In 2005, the federal government estimated that the code and regulations contained 9,097,000 words. That is why it is burdensome.  It is a huge lodestone attaching itself to our economy and weighing us down in the international race for jobs and growth.  Fair Tax advocates say that it costs us 900 dollars per man, woman, boy, and girl in compliance costs.   According the Tax Foundation, it costs us an estimated 368,000,000,000 dollars in compliance cost which is higher than Fair Tax estimates.  Large companies have entire floors devoted to compliance with the tax code not productive activities.

Compare it to the Fair Tax proposal.  It is no comparison.  You are no longer manipulated.   Naturally, charitable donations and education expenses are not taxed.   You are not constantly manipulated. The hand of despotism is vanquished.  We go from 71,00 pages to 36 pages of code.   Compliance costs drop dramatically.

Even better, we will finally have a tax system designed to grow the economy.   Currently imports get better treatment than domestic production.  The playing field is leveled. Exports won’t be taxed at all.  We will finally be ready to compete in the world.  America will stop destroying and shipping out manufacturing and the orphaned investments kept offshore by our highest in the world corporate income tax will flow back and forth into our economy.  The worst case estimates of growth are 5 to 7%.  Other estimates are as high as 14% growth.  We currently average around 3% and in the last few years struggle to reach 2% growth.  The difference between 2% growth and 6% growth is an economy doubling every 32 years or one doubling every 12 years.  That is huge. …”

Former Tea Party Express Mark Williams – What does the Tea Party Really Want?

The Republican establishment better start paying attention and getting a clue as to what the tea party movement wants.

Once the American people have the FairTax, they will not want to go back to a Federal Income Tax and vote against any politician who even tries.

Pass the FairTax then repeal the income tax 16th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.

Waiting for the repeal of the 16th Amendment is similiar to waiting for passage of the balanced budget Constitutional amendment before balancing the budget.

I have completely lost patience with either political party to balance budget or reform the Federal income tax code with a flat tax.

Both political parties are just stalling and lying about what they are actually doing.

Forget about the flat tax and pass and implement the FairTax now!

Otherwise the tea party movement will find candidates that not only talk the talk but walk the walk.

The Fiscal Year 2012 Federal Budget will either be balanced and the FairTax passed and implemented for 2012 or both political parties will pay in upcoming elections in 2012, 2014 and beyond.

I am an independent and my political philosophy is classical liberal or libertarian.

I want  limited government and the FairTax.

I  support and will vote for candidates for office who also want the FairTax to replace the existing Federal taxation system.

A growing number of Americans including Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, Tea Party Patriots and others want the FairTax.

Mike Huckabee – What is the “Fair Tax?”

Mike Gravel – On Fair Tax

Ron Paul on Taxes

The Fair Tax

Neal Boortz Explain the FAIRTAX

The FairTax is a national retail consumption tax that replaces most if not all Federal taxes and sends a prebate each month to every American to cover the taxes for the basic necessities of life.

The FairTax would replace  existing Federal taxes including personal income taxes, payroll taxes, Social Security taxes, Medicare taxes, capital gains taxes, alternative minimum taxes, corporate taxes, estate taxes and gift taxes with one national retail sales consumption tax on the purchase of new goods and services–the FairTax.

The FairTax: It’s Time

The FairTax

www.fairtax.org

The Democratic Party has launched a last minute dirty tricks attack ad campaign, both onair (radio and television) and online (YouTube and paid ads on blogs including this one), to say that various Republican candidates that support tax reform and the FairTax want an additional 23% national sales taxes.

This is a lie and the Democratic Party and their desperate candidates know it.

Here are just a few examples that appeared on YouTube:

John Boozman: Excited About National Sales Tax

We Can’t Afford Millionaire Tim Burns and his 23% National Sales Tax

Sydney Hay: A New 23% Sales Tax (AZ-01)

Dan Benishek’s Bad Idea – 23% Tax on Nearly Everything You Buy

Mark McBride supports a 23% sales tax for Myrtle Beach

Andy Harris Doesn’t Have a Clue

Republican candidates who support the FairTax want to replace all Federal taxes with a broad-based consumption or retail sales tax on the purchase of new goods and services.

Yes, the rate would be 23%.

However, you would not be paying any of the above taxes and would be receiving a monthly prebate to pay the taxes on basic necessitates.

This means there would be no deductions from you payroll check for any Federal taxes.

Your gross pay would be the  amount on your paycheck–there would be no Federal deductions.

Please visit the FairTax.org site for more information and a detailed response to the lies and distortions in the Democratic Party’s attack ads on the radio, television and in YouTube videos clips, web sites and blogs:

About The FairTax

http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_fairtax_four#regressive

The American people are not stupid.

The American people are paying attention.

The American people know that the Democratic Party supported and passed in the House of Representatives the Cap and Trade bill that would have been the largest tax increase in American history had it been enacted into law.

The American people know that the Democratic Party wants an additional new tax, the Value Added Tax, if the Cap and Trade Energy Tax did not pass.

The American people know the Democratic Party wants to let the Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 lapse at the end of 2010.

The American people know the Democratic Party wants all these new taxes to expand the size and scope of the Federal Government.

The American people know the Democratic Party wants to force you to buy a healthcare insurance plan or you must pay a tax fine or penalty.

The American people know the Democratic Party will never cut Federal Government spending, budget deficits, entitlements or the national debts.

The American people know the Democratic Party wants more spending, more deficits, more debts, and more taxes.

The important point to remember is the FairTax would replace all these other Federal taxes and would not be an additional tax on top of these existing taxes.

The FairTax provides a prebate or check to every American to pay for the taxes on basic  necessities such as food and clothing.

Under the FairTax most Americans will pay less taxes than under the existing Federal tax system.

The Democratic Party is lying to the American people by not disclosing that the 23% sales tax would replace the current complicated Federal income, payroll, estate and gift taxation system.

The FairTax would also spur economic growth and create jobs.

Do not be fooled by the Democratic Party’s last-minute attack ad campaign to scare you and your family.

Do not vote for candidates, Democrats or Republicans, that would lie to you about taxes and spending.

When people lie to me, I do not trust them.

I do not do business with them and I certainly do not vote for them for public office.

The Democratic Party and those Democratic candidates who are using the FairTax’s 23% tax rate  to attack their opponents have made a huge mistake.

The FairTax attack ads will incense and energize the political base of those in favor of tax reform that include Democrats, Republicans, Independents, libertarians, conservatives and the Tea Party Patriots.

After cutting Federal Government spending and repealing Obamacare, the reform of the Federal tax system and its replacement with either a flat income tax or the FairTax is very high priority of movement conservatives and libertarians.

By simply telling the truth, those who have been attacked in these ads will show that their Democratic opponents are both liars and hypocrites.

This does, however, require funds or campaign contributions to run the ads replying to attacks on radio and television.

Time for the Republican Party to step up to the plate and support the FairTax.

Will they do so?

Not likely.

Unfortunately they will not for the simple reason the Republican establishment supports the existing Federal income taxation system to attract campaign contributions from special interests that want changes in the tax code and regulations.

The major change the Republicans would support is a flat tax with one or two brackets.

Both the Democratic and Republican establishments fear the FairTax.

The American people need to support candidates who fully support the FairTax.

Please pass this information on to all FairTax supporters and your friends and neighbors.

More Boortz: When Democrats Attack the FairTax!

“…Here’s the cherry on the FairTax sundae. When the FairTax plan was being developed it was thought, and people in focus groups confirmed, that nobody should ever have to pay a penny of their earnings to government until they had first taken care of the needs of their family. What is the moral justification for allowing the government to seize a portion of your earnings before you’ve taken care of your family’s needs for the basic necessities of life? The designers of the FairTax were determined to find a solution to this problem, and came up with the “prebate.”

The government publishes Federal Poverty Guidelines every year. These figures are supposed to represent the amount that families of varying sizes would have to spend every year to meet their basic needs. The FairTax plan calls for every head of household in the country – legally in the country – to get a “prebate” at the beginning of each month equal to the amount of the FairTax that person will pay during the following month while purchasing those basic necessities. That poverty level for a family of four is $22,050. This equals $1,837.50 per month in spending, of which $423 would be FairTax. At the beginning of each month this head of household would receive a credit to his checking account, debit card or credit card in the amount of $423. This means that no citizen or legal resident of this country would ever pay one penny in tax to the federal government before his or her family needs were met. The prebate is what caused a focus group participant to blurt out “Well, that’s a fair tax!” Hence the name.

Are there downsides to the FairTax? Yes, as a matter of fact — one huge downside, if, that is, you’re a member of the political class. The FairTax would be the most massive transfer of power from government to the people since this country was founded. Politicians have this strange aversion to giving up power. Another problem is that, as Democrats are now illustrating, the FairTax is very easy to demagogue. If honesty isn’t your forte you can tell people that your opponent wants to add a 23 percent sales tax to everything you buy without including the pesky little details. As Politifac.com says: “Our bigger issue with the Lincoln ad – and a number of similar ads being run against Republicans who have had nice things to say about the “Fair Tax” – is that it highlights support for a 23 percent national sales tax but fails to mention that it would replace federal income taxes. No matter what you think of the plan, that’s a very deceptive omission.”

When you condense over 100,000 words from two books into one column of around 2000 words, much must remain unsaid. There’s the economic and jobs growth that would result from a system wherein people could do business without any tax component on capital and labor. There’s the $300 to $500 billion in annual tax compliance costs that would be eliminated. That’s just for starters.

If you want more information perhaps the two books mentioned at the beginning of this column might be a good place to start. There’s also a great deal of information at http://www.fairtax.org.

The midterms are approaching. Take some time to look behind the ads. …”

UPDATED and REVISED July 23, 2011

“…It is a signal advantage of taxes on articles of consumption, that they contain in their own nature a security against excess. They prescribe their own limit; which cannot be exceeded without defeating the end proposed, that is, an extension of the revenue. When applied to this object, the saying is as just as it is witty, that, “in political arithmetic, two and two do not always make four.” If duties are too high, they lessen the consumption; the collection is eluded; and the product to the treasury is not so great as when they are confined within proper and moderate bounds. This forms a complete barrier against any material oppression of the citizens by taxes of this class, and is itself a natural limitation of the power of imposing them….”

Budget 2011: Past Deficits vs. Obama’s Deficits in Pictures

“… The chart above compares the President’s budget deficit projections to the Congressional Budget Office’s budget deficit projections under current law. In other words, the policy changes embodied in President Obama’s 2011 Budget puts our country $2.5 trillion deeper in debt by 2020 than it other wise would be if current law were left unchanged.

Now the President is apparently arguing that his trillions of dollars in additional deficit spending are needed to “invest in areas that will determine our economic success in this new century.”

This is statement goes to the core of the fundamental difference between leftists and conservatives in this country: liberals belief economic growth comes from wise investments by government experts; conservatives believe that economic growth stems from  millions of Americans having the freedom to make their own economic decisions everyday. …”

Each month approximately 100,000 people enter the civilian labor force in the United States for the first time.

Thus in order for the official unemployment rate (U-3) to remain constant, at least 100,000 new jobs must be created each month.

In order to reduce the official unemployment rate (U-3) more than 100,000 new jobs need to be created each month.

Since the economy entered the recession in 2008, over 7,000,000 jobs have been lost in the United States.

In order to get the unemployment rate back to pre-recession levels of 5.0% or under,  it will take at least 24 months provided about 200,000 new jobs are created each month in addition to the 100,000 for new entrants into the labor market or a total of 300,000 new jobs each month.

While  U.S. economic growth may be positive, the economy or more precisely small and medium size businesses are still not hiring at anywhere near 300,000 per month.

The actual rate of job creation by the private sector or businesses is under 100,000 new jobs per month.

The actual rate of unemployment measured by U-6 is 16.9% and indicates how bad the job situation actually is:

Why?

Business owners and consumers lack confidence in the economic policies of President Barack Obama.

Instead of restraining entitlement programs, President Obama expanded them with the passage of his Obama Care law:

President Obama’s Health Care bill with its mandatory requirement to buy a plan or pay a tax/ fine, proposed tax increases such as the cap and trade energy tax, proposed income tax rate increases, letting the Bush tax rates expire at the end of 2010, and giving hints of a new value added tax, all discourage small businesses from expanding their operations and hiring new workers.

These tax increase are directed at the top 5% of taxpayers who are the very owners of businesses that create wealth,  new jobs and grow the economy.

The Top 10 Percent of Income Earners Paid 71 Percent of Federal Income Tax

“…Top earners are the target for new tax increases, but the U.S. tax system is already highly progressive. The top 1 percent of income earners paid 40 percent of all federal income taxes in 2007, while the bottom 50 percent paid only 3 percent. More than one-third of U.S. earners paid no federal income tax at all. …”

The government does not create jobs or wealth, the Federal government mainly redistributes wealth by taxing those who actually produce wealth and new jobs.

President Obama’s economic policies and proposed legislation are generating massive uncertainty.

Consumers and business owners do not like uncertainty.

When uncertainty increases, both consumers and businesses postpone consumer expenditures and expanding business operations.

The Obama Depression will last until 2012 with the real unemployment rate (U-6) remaining at or above 15% and the official unemployment rate (U-3) remaining at or above 9% with inflation starting to significantly increase in 2011. Both food and gasoline prices are already increasing.

Forget about the Flat Tax this would still require income tax returns and compliance cost over $300 billion.

Support the FairTax that replaces all Federal taxes including income, payroll, capital gains, gift and estate taxes with a national consumption sales tax.

Obama lied and the economy died.

President Obama is wrecking the economy, destroying jobs and killing the American dream by following a Cloward-Piven strategy that would make tens of millions of Americans dependent upon government.

The American people by a vast majority do not want to be dependent upon government nor do they want the size and scope of the Federal Government expanded.

The American people want to abolish the Federal income, payroll, estate and gift taxes and replace it with a national consumption sales tax–the FairTax.

The American people and business owners do not believe or trust Barack Obama.

The American people are giving President Obama and the progressive radical socialists in Congress and the Senate a vote of no confidence.

The result is a jobless recovery, if not a double dip recession or the Great Obama Depression.

What needs to be done?

Milton Friedman on Libertarianism (Part 4 of 4)

“If we cannot persuade the public that it is desirable to do these things, we have no right to impose them even if we had the power to do it.”

The Pronk Plan for A Peace and Prosperity Economy

1. Federal Tax Reform and End The Internal Revenue Service: The FairTax should  replace all Federal taxes and the Internal Revenue Service should be ended with all Internal Revenue records destroyed. A bureau of FairTax Revenues (FTR) would be established in the Department of the Treasury to both send monthly prebates to each American citizen and collect FairTax revenues from retailers and the states.

2. Government Spending: surplus budgets to pay down the National Debt by restricting fiscal year spending outlays to 80% of previous year’s  FairTax revenue collections with the remaining 20% of revenue collection to pay down the national debt.

3. Size and scope of the government: At least ten Federal Departments, many Federal agencies and hundreds of Federal programs should be closed down permanently. The number of Federal employees needs to be cut by at least 50%.

4. National Defense: Budget 5% of our nation’s gross domestic product for national defense, intelligence gathering, securing our borders and homeland security.

5. Foreign Affairs: End US involvement with the United Nations and bring all the troops home from abroad including from the countries of  Germany,  Italy, United Kingdom, Spain, Japan, South Korea,  Afghanistan,  Bahrain, Djibouti,  Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, and Qatar.

6. Social Security and Medicare: Transform them from a government controlled and operated system to an individual controlled and investment system where benefits are based upon payments into a person’s account and investment performance. All persons over the age of forty-five would have the option to remain under the existing Social Security and Medicare programs or go into the new individual controlled and owned  system. All persons under age forty-five would establish their own individual health insurance savings account, disability income and retirement savings accounts with a maximum contributions of twenty-five percent (25%) of their income per year. All persons over the age of sixty-five would continue to receive Social Security and Medicare Benefits.

7. Immigration: immigration law enforcement, illegal alien removal and deportation, and controlled and limited legal immigration. The number of legal immigrants each year would range from a minimum of 200,000 persons when the official unemployment rate exceeds eight percent (8%) to a maximum of 500,000 persons per year when the official unemployment rate is less than two percent (2%). All new citizens must speak, read and write English before becoming a United States citizen.

8. Promote competition in education: provide  all parents with  school vouchers that enable them to choose the school their children attend including home schooling and online schooling.

9. Health Care Reform: affordable, portable, individual, tax favored, and competitive health insurance plans and expanded health savings accounts.

10. End the Federal Reserve System and fiat paper money and  institute  a new gold/silver backed currency standard. Let money interest rates be determined in the market place and not controlled by a central bank.

11. End all Federal subsidies to businesses no matter what form the subsidies take.

12. Eliminate Federal Government regulations that put U.S. businesses at a competitive disadvantage.

13. Energy Independence: repeal all laws and regulations that are impeding the growth and expansion of US energy production including oil and gas exploration and refining and nuclear electrical power generation plant construction and operation.

14. Preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America: appoint judges and public servants that will uphold their oaths.

The above Fourteen Issue Positions  should receive the support of the vast majority of the American people including Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians and others.

However, both the Democratic and Republican Party establishment would not support these Fourteen Issue Positions in their entirety.

The Tea Party movement must transform itself into a viable political party that is fundamentally different from both the Democratic and Republican parties.

The ruling political class and elites in Washington, D.C. are responsible for the economic, political and military mess the United States of America currently finds itself.

The warfare and welfare economy of every expanding collectivist government must be transformed into a peace and prosperity economy with a limited and constrained Constitutional republic.

Get serious. This is what is required.

It is a national emergency for the American family.

Time to shut Federal Departments down permanently.

The late economist and libertarian, Milton Friedman, had it exactly right.

Milton Friedman on Libertarianism (Part 4 of 4)

The Federal Government needs to shut down ten Federal Departments now.

This would reduce the Federal employee head count by over million or more than 50% of the Federal Government.

Government employees can either retire or find employment in the private sector.

The only two programs the American people want saved are Social Security and Medicare that they have paid for with taxes over the years.

Let the American people own these programs with an account in their own name and control over the taxes they pay into their account.

No longer will Social Security surpluses be used to pay for other government spending.

American families first, the Federal Government last.

A flat income tax would be an improvement over the existing Federal Income and Payroll Taxes.

However, the FairTax, a national sales consumption tax, would be even better.

The FairTax encourages savings, investments and exports,  significantly reduces compliance costs, and would attract capital back into the United States from abroad.

The result would be a dramatic increase in wealth, income and job creation.

Let the American people decide when they will either pay their taxes on their consumption of new goods and services or not pay taxes, save their money and invest it for future consumption.

No more filing of tax returns and IRS invasion of your privacy.

No longer will individuals spend many hours filling out tax returns or paying others to perform this service.

April 15 will just be another day of the week.

All future Federal budgets should be limited to 80% of the prior year’s FairTax collections.

All future Federal budgets should be in “surplus”–no more deficits or a rising National Debt.

The remaining 20% of the FairTax national sales consumption tax would go towards paying off the National Debt and getting both Social Security and Medicare on a sound acturial foundation.

Their are nearly thirty million Americans seeking a full time job.

The American family is hurting.

It’s time to actually cut the size and scope of the Federal Government.

It’s time to protect the American family from unemployment.

It’s time to send the illegal aliens home.

It’s time to bring the troops home.

It’s time for the FairTax.

Join the Second American Revolution.

Memo To: American Talk Radio Show Hosts–United We Stand, Divided We Fall–The FairTax or Flat Tax–It Is Time!

 Flat Tax

Today’s Tea Parties are a huge success because they are planned and organized by a spontaneous grassroots movement in protest of out of control Federal Government spending, taxes, deficits, regulations and national debt.

The American people deeply resent that the political elites in Washington D.C.  of both political parties who have ignored and betrayed them.

It’s Tea Party Time!—Glenn Beck’s ‘One Thing’: 04-15-09

Both political parties are responsible for massive government spending, deficits, bailouts, handouts, amnesty for illegal aliens, high unemployment and the proposed new cap and trade carbon dioxide tax and the coming high inflation rates.

There is widespread agreement that both Federal taxation and spending is out of control and needs to be reformed and constrained.

Ten years ago I favored a flat tax.  I am still waiting with no prospect for passage in sight.

After carefully comparing a flat tax with the proposed FairTax, I am now convinced the FairTax is a better alternative.

At first I resisted The FairTax thinking it was simply a sales tax and would be regressive on those with low income.

I had not done by homework and needed to read and understand the FairTax better.

The more I read and understood the FairTax, the more I preferred it to the flat tax.

Both the flat tax and the FairTax would be much better than our existing Federal taxation system.

The Origins of the FairTax

The advantages and benefits of the FairTax include the following:

  • Replaces all individual and corporate income taxes, Social Security, Medicare and other payroll taxes, alternative minimum tax, capital gains taxes, gift and estate taxes with a single rate national retail sales consumption tax–The Fair Tax
  • Provides a pre-bate for the taxes paid on the necessities of life up to the poverty level for all individuals–this eliminates the regressive aspect of any sales tax.
  • Pay taxes only when you consume a new good or service–no taxes on education and used or old goods.
  • No more filing of annual tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service and invasions of your privacy
  • Encourages work, savings and investment
  • Attracts capital and manufacturing back to the United States
  • Broadens the tax base
  • Expands our export sector by making it very competitive
  • Grows the economy at much higher rates
  • Creates more and higher paid jobs
  • Easy to understand and fair to all Americans

The more and better you understand the principles and benefits of the FairTax, the more you will be saying to yourself, “we need to do this now!”

Neal Boortz is an talk show host and libertarian who co-authored two books on the FairTax with Congressman John Linder.

As a result, many other talk show hosts, many of whom I think would normally support a FairTax,  will not discuss or support the FairTax, because one of their competitors in talk radio wrote the book.

It is passed time for real tax reform.

Conservative and libertarian talk show hosts need to get behind either the FairTax or the Flat Tax.

I hope you will spend the time learning more about the FairTax and eventually support it.

Tax reform is an issue that impacts the American people.

At future Tea Parties this summer and especially at the July 4, 2009 Washington Fair Tea Parties, the American people need local and national talk radio show hosts to come out in favor of either the FairTax or the Flat Tax.

So, please do your homework and study both.

While you are reading and thinking, remember, there will soon be over 20 million Americans looking for a full time job to earn a living and support their families.

The American people are counting on you to put aside your differences and support Federal tax reform.

Time is of the essence.

Then in the coming weeks talk about Federal tax reform on your shows.

Ask your listeners what they are looking for in tax system.

Remember the words of one of the founding fathers:

“We must hang together, gentlemen…else, we shall most assuredly hang separately.”

~Benjamin Franklin

Flat Tax

A Brief Guide to the Flat Tax

by Daniel J. Mitchell, Ph.D.

Backgrounder #1866

“…There is widespread consensus that the current tax system is a complicated failure that hinders the nation’s growth while allowing the politically well-connected to manipulate the system to get special breaks that are not available to average workers and businesses. This is stimulating a great deal of interest in shifting to a simple and fair flat tax. For instance, President George W. Bush has appointed the President’s Advisory Panel on Tax Reform to recommend options for fundamental tax reform,[1] the Department of the Treasury has produced extensive analysis of the flat tax and other reform options,[2] and lawmakers on Capitol Hill are exploring various ways to reform the tax code.

The United States should move quickly to reform its tax system. In a competitive global economy, jobs and capital flow to jurisdictions with better tax law. Traditionally, this process of “tax competition” has benefited the United States, but there is growing evidence that America is falling behind. Nations around the world are lowering tax rates and reforming their tax systems. Indeed, nine countries that were part of the former Soviet Bloc have adopted versions of the flat tax.[3] These pro-growth reforms are yielding impressive results and are a road map for U.S. policymakers. …”

http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/bg1866.cfm

Democrats and Republicans Have Different Understanding of Fair Tax System

“…Democrats, by a 53% to 34% margin, say that a fair tax system would have higher income Americans paying a higher percentage of their income in taxes. Republicans, by a 66% to 25% margin, say that a fair tax system would have everyone paying the same percentage of their income in taxes.

Looking beyond the partisan perspective, 48% of all voters think that all Americans should pay an equal percentage of their income in taxes. Forty percent (40%) think that upper income Americans should pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes.

When it comes to the way that the system currently works, Democrats, by a 53% to 28% margin, believe that those earning $50,000 a year pay a larger share of their income in taxes than someone who earns $200,000 a year. Republicans, by a 50% to 30% margin, have the opposite view. Overall, voters are fairly evenly divided on this point.

Democratic Presidential hopeful has proposed raising taxes on those earning $200,000 a year to finance tax cuts for lower and middle income Americans. Democrats, by a 75% to 15% margin, favor that proposal. Republicans, by a 56% to 34% margin, are opposed.

However, voter skepticism runs deep on the tax issue. If a politician promises to raise taxes only on the wealthy, 76% of voters believe that middle taxes will go up. That figure includes 85% of Republicans, 76% of Democrats, and 63% of those not affiliated with either major party. …”

BO’s Raw Deal: Obama’s Two Year Recession and Two Year Hyperinflation–Hopeless & Small Change!

Posted on November 26, 2008. Filed under: Blogroll, Climate, Communications, Economics, Employment, Energy, Immigration, Investments, Law, Politics, Regulations, Resources, Security, Strategy, Taxes, Technology, Video | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Another freaking Bailout…

the Government causes most of our problems…

President-elect Barack Obama’s Raw Deal of investment–read more government spending, more deficits and more taxes– will result in a recession lasting upwards of 24 to 30 months.

Obama’s answer to every problem is a new or bigger government program and more and more bailouts.

Government spending takes time to implement– a year or more before it has any significant impact on the economy.

After two years of recession and higher unemployment rates the economy will be heading into a hyperinflation as a direct result of bailouts creating money or credit in unprecedented amounts–too many dollars chasing too few goods and services.

When this happens the Federal Reserve will slam on the brakes and institute a contractionary monetary policy with higher and higher interest rates.

In summary Obama Raw Deal consists of stomping on the gas pedal of government spending and leaving it there for two years followed by two years of slamming on the brakes by raising taxes.

The Federal Reserve will accommodate the Raw Deal approach until inflation rears its ugly head.

Then the Federal Reserve will also slam on the brakes and raise interest rates.

The election of 2012 will result in some real and needed change and a conservative/libertarian Presidential candidate to stop BO’s Raw Deal–the audacity of socialism–a wrecked economy!

The message will be restoring the American Dream with:

  1. A FairTax or flat income tax
  2. Lower capital gains taxes if there is flat income tax.
  3. Lower business income taxes if there is flat income tax.
  4. Repeal of higher gasoline taxes and repeal of any cap & trade laws
  5. Cutting government spending
  6. Eliminating many Federal Government Departments
  7. Securing the borders and stopping all illegal immigration and the criminal aliens removal(CAR) and deportation to country of origin.
  8. Stiff fines and imprisonment for any business or union that employs criminal aliens or has members that are criminal aliens

Jolting’ the Economy

By Thomas Sowell

“…The Great Depression of the 1930s was in fact the longest-lasting of all our depressions.
Government policy in the 1930s was another bipartisan disaster. Despite a myth that Herbert Hoover was a “do nothing” president, he was the first President of the United States to step in to try to put the economy back on track.
With the passing years, it has increasingly been recognized that what FDR did was largely a further extension of what Hoover had done. Where Hoover made things worse, FDR made them much worse.
Herbert Hoover did what Barack Obama is proposing to do. Hoover raised taxes on high-income people and put restrictions on international trade, in order to try to save American jobs. It didn’t work then and it is not likely to work now.
Perhaps the most disastrous of all the counterproductive policies of the federal government was the National Industrial Recovery Act under FDR, which set out to do exactly what the politicians today want to do — micro-manage businesses.
Fortunately, the Supreme Court declared that Act unconstitutional, sparing the country an even bigger disaster. …”

Obama’s Pro-Growth Economic Team?
A liberal-conservative consensus?

By Larry Kudlow

“…Here’s my thought on his team. Summers, Geithner, and Romer will all recommend no tax hikes in a recession. Maybe for Keynesian reasons; maybe a nod to supply-siders. Obama talked about a liberal-conservative consensus. But what’s especially encouraging is the appointment of Ms. Romer, who easily could serve as CEA head in a Republican administration (just like Geithner could have been McCain’s Treasury man).

About a year and half ago economist Don Luskin sent me a long article about taxes by Christine and her husband David Romer, who were writing for the National Bureau of Economic Research. From the introduction: “The resulting estimates indicate that tax increases are highly contractionary. . . . The large effect stems in considerable part form a powerful negative effect of tax increases on investment.”

Later in the article, the Romers write: “In short, tax increases appear to have a very large, sustained, and highly significant negative impact on output.”

That’s what makes the Romer appointment so interesting. In fact, there is no question that Obama’s economic team is right of center. All three are market-oriented. They’re also pro-free-trade. Hopefully Summers and Geithner maintain the Robert Rubin King Dollar policy of the Clinton years. And if Ms. Romer can stop tax hikes, that will help the greenback even more.

At a minimum, both Romer and Geithner could have served under Gerald Ford or George H. W. Bush. But they may be more pro-growth than that. Romer’s study of the damage of tax hikes on the economy and her emphasis on investment are right on target. In a New York Times story, a former Treasury colleague of Geithner’s says, “he’s no liberal.” As for Summers, while he has been mau-maued by Democratic feminists and some of the unions, he is a tough, clear-headed thinker who has for years tried to merge Keynesian and supply-side policies. No mean feat.

Now here’s the rub: all this talk about a $700 billion stimulus package. I hate to be the one to pull the plug, but government cannot spend our way into prosperity. The wish list of Democratic spending initiatives includes short-term tax rebates, massive new transportation bills, even more education money, exotic green-technology spending, a big-government embrace of health care, and heaps of cash for UAW-Detroit carmakers. None of that will stimulate economic growth. …”
