Who is the conservative/libertarian Presidential candidate in 2008?

Posted on December 22, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Links, Politics, Raves, Religion, War |

There are no perfect candidates–each has his/her strengths and weaknesses.

That said if you are a member of the conservative movement who would be your candidate for President of The United States in 2008?

Note I did not say Republican Party.

I believe there are only three choices–Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.

If the election were held today–I would vote for one of the three.

Now who is my first choice today–Fred Thompson with Ron Paul a very close second.

Why? Consistency! They consistently follow conservative/libertarian principles .

Who will get the nomination?

Unfortunately, I think the Republican Party is going to have a brokered convention. Deals will be made.

In terms of a Republican Party ticket that could win the election:

Fred Thompson/Mitt Romney

Fred Thompson/Ron Paul

Fred Thompson/Rudy Giuliani

A united party wins elections.

A divided party or a third party candidate from the conservative base loses elections.

I am still hoping the Democrats will feel the warmth with a Al Gore for President and Hillary Clinton for Vice President ticket.

The two major issues in the 2008 Presidential campaign will be stopping illegal immigration with a sealed border and criminal alien removal and a new federal tax system–the FairTax or a national sales tax.

The candidate who comes out in favor of the FairTax gets my vote.

The American people are tired of candidates saying they are for tax reform and tax cuts and then doing nothing or even increasing taxes or shifting taxes to the states, counties and cities with such policies as Open Borders.

I voted for both Bushes and all I have seen is either higher Federal or State and local taxes and fees mostly due to both legal and illegal immigration and wastefull spending.

President Bush should have vetoed the last Budgetary bill but instead signed it.

A FairTax or you will not be getting my vote and the votes of million of Americans that support it.

Mike Huckabee Flunks The Ignorant Test (IT) On Global Warming

Posted on December 21, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Climate, Economics, Immigration, Links, Politics, Rants, Religion, Resources, Science, Taxes, Technology, Video |

Mike Huckabee fell for the man-made global warming hoax–hook, line and sinker.

I call this the ignorant test (IT) for politicians.

He flunked.

Mike believes global warming and climate change is caused by man.

Clinton’s Cap and Trade Tax on The American People for Consuming Electricity and Driving Cars, SUVs and Trucks!

Leaders must think for themselves and not follow the mob, fanatics, political consultants or the mainstream media.

You are pandering big time.

People were warning me that you were a cross between President Carter and President Clinton.

Guess they were right.

Mike Huckabee will not be getting my vote despite his support of the FairTax and his position on illegal immigration and sealing the borders.

The person who wins the nomination and gets elected President of The United States of America makes the fewest mistakes in his campaign.

Sorry Mike, you just made a big mistake and flunked the Ignorance Test (IT).

What America needs is more exploration and drilling for oil and natural gas in the US and off our coasts, more gasoline refineries, more coal and nuclear power plants and may be in fifty years fusion power plants.

Americans like their jobs and standard of living and this requires affordable transportation to work and electricity in their homes and place of employment.

The American people do not need is another tax–which is exactly what cap and trade is all about. The FairTax is a consumption tax. What you do not need is another tax on top of the FairTax.

Let Them Eat Cake Act: American Elites Killing and Starving The American People

The price of corn, wheat, bread, milk and meat are significantly rising as the American political elites of both parties celebrate the passage and signing of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. It should have been called Let Them Eat Cake Act.

I prefer to eat my corn not use it to produce government subsidize Ethanol to power my car.

First your Federal government taxes you hard earned money. Then the Federal government turns around and subsidizes the production of ethanol that results in agriculture land being used to produce corn not to eat but as the raw material for ethanol.

Then you and your family must pay more for a new car largely made of light-weight and plastic materials instead of steel. Then a truck hits your new light-weight material car and injures or kills you and your family resulting in higher medical bills.

All in the name of saving the planet from global warming–the biggest hoax, con-job and swindle perpertrated by the far left.

Well I have some news for the American elites and their bought and paid for politicians–A Second American Revolution and Third Party is in the making!

I will never again vote for a compassionate conservative or a hyphenated American.

I will vote for a conservative that puts the health and wealth of the American people first.

Keep it up and we will vote everyone of you out of office.

CAFE’s Three Strikes – It Should be Out

“…CAFE has three strikes against it:

  • The best evidence suggests that raising CAFE standards will not reduce U.S. dependence on foreign oil.
  • Even if human activity is contributing to global warming, raising CAFE standards will have little or no effect.
  • CAFE standards – both at their present level and at the proposed higher levels – pose a significant risk to life and health.
Strike One: CAFE Has Not Reduced Foreign Oil Consumption.

To reduce America’s reliance on foreign oil, CAFE forced auto manufacturers to meet certain mileage standards or pay a fuel consumption tax for vehicles not in compliance. Since 1974, domestic new car fuel economy has increased 114 percent, and light truck fuel economy has increased 56 percent. Yet over this same period, imported oil has risen from 35 percent of the oil consumed in the U. S. in 1974 to more than 52 percent today. …”

“…

Conclusion.

Raising CAFE standards will neither decrease U.S. reliance on foreign oil nor reduce the chances of global warming, but it will result in more driver and passenger fatalities. Since the current proposal to increase CAFE standards would set the same standard for cars, light trucks, SUVs and minivans, everybody would be equally unsafe. Worse, since the overwhelming majority of minivan and SUV owners are families, many of these additional casualties would be children.CAFE is morally bankrupt and an indefensible public policy – an experiment that has killed almost as many people as the number of military personnel lost in the Vietnam war. In baseball, when a batter has three strikes, he’s out. CAFE should likewise be retired. …”http://www.ncpa.org/pub/ba/ba388/

Ethanol Makes Gasoline Costlier, Dirtier

“In his State of the Union address, President Bush spoke a lot about energy independence and alternative energy sources such as ethanol. According to the president, ethanol is the magical elixir that will solve virtually every economic, environmental, and foreign policy problem on the horizon. In reality, it’s enormously expensive and wasteful.

Untruths and misconceptions about ethanol include:

Ethanol will lead to energy independence. If all the corn produced in America last year were dedicated to ethanol production (14.3 percent of it was), U.S. gasoline consumption would drop by 12 percent. For corn ethanol to completely displace gasoline consumption in this country, we would need to appropriate all U.S. cropland, turn it completely over to corn-ethanol production, and then find 20 percent more land for cultivation on top of that.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration believes that the practical limit for domestic ethanol production is about 700,000 barrels per day, a figure they don’t think is realistic until 2030. That translates to about 6 percent of the U.S. transportation fuels market in 2030. …”

Food Fight

“The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently confirmed what shoppers have been noticing for months: the price of food is increasing at an unusually rapid rate. And failed government policies—supporting domestic farmers through restrictions on cheaper imports and stimulating demand for corn-fed ethanol—are adding to consumers’ woes. The federal government can and should take this opportunity to alleviate the effect of higher prices at the grocery store by reducing taxes on imported rice, dairy products, and sugar and by abandoning its misguided support for biofuels.

Paying More for Food

During the calendar year 2007, food prices in the United States increased by 4.9 percent, with especially marked hikes for staples such as milk, cheese and bread (see Table 1). That was higher than the overall inflation rate for urban consumers (the CPI-U) of 4.1 percent over the year to December 2007 and much higher than the 2.1 percent increase in food prices in 2006.[1] In other words, food prices are rising more quickly than consumer prices overall, and more quickly than in the previous year. In the seven years 2000 to 2006, food prices increased by a comparatively modest average of 2.5 percent a year.

Bush, Dems jockeying over energy bill laurels

“…“Without question, some of the credit is due,” Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida, chairman of the House Republican Conference, said of the White House. “This is the president who stood in the well of the House and said during the State of the Union that ‘America is addicted to oil and we should do something about it.’ ”

Putnam noted that this energy bill will be the second Bush has signed since coming to office, adding that “He has a pattern of working with the Congress to implement energy bills that actually expand access to lower-cost energy that is domestically produced, reducing our dependence on people who don’t like us.”

Bush signs bill raising auto fuel standards

“Bush inked the legislation after the Democratic-led House of Representatives passed the legislation in a 314-100 vote on Tuesday, a week after the Senate approved the bill 86-8 following a compromise with minority Republicans.

President Bush signed the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which will improve vehicle fuel economy and help reduce US dependence on oil,” the White House said in a statement. …”

“…The bill requires the auto industry to reduce fuel consumption in most cars and light trucks by 40 percent, raising the fuel efficiency standard to 35 miles per gallon (15 kilometers per liter) by 2020.

The current Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard is around 27.5 miles per gallon for cars and just over 22 miles per gallon for light trucks.

The bill also calls for a sixfold increase in the use of ethanol, a biofuel, to 136 billion liters per year by 2022. The provision is a boon to US farmers as the United States uses corn to produce ethanol. …”

Magical Thinking on Energy Policy

“…We must address the oil production and gasoline refining issue as a national security issue.  Any energy policy that does not address population growth, the resulting increase in demand, and the effects of petrodollar terrorism, will result in a predictable failure.  We need to dissuade the leadership of this nation from engaging in magical thinking for political purposes, hoping some new technological development will save them from the consequences of inaction.

Congress needs to remove and streamline regulations to promote new drilling and refineries, not discourage them as they have done in the past.  An increase in supply is the only rational response to an increase in demand, in the face of a rising population. Then there is the question of the source of our projected population growth. But that’s another article.”

  Energy Follies

22. oktober 2007
Af Richard Rahn, Honorary Fellow & Director general of the Center for Global Economic Growth, a project of FreedomWorks Foundation.

“…Is it really so difficult to understand that mandating a huge increase in corn production (with subsidies) for ethanol will result in less corn for other uses, less land for other crop production (and wildlife habitat), and hence higher food prices? Congress had the choice of opening only a couple of thousand acres of the barren tundra in the north slope of Alaska (ANWR) for more oil production, or insisting we all use ethanol.

The amount of land required to replace the gasoline the government will not allow to be produced on this tiny piece of land in Alaska by growing more corn in the Lower 48 (about 40,000 square miles) is larger than the total land area of Indiana or Maine. ANWR could produce about a million barrels of oil a day, which would translate into 7.7 billion gallons of gasoline a year. It would require about 3.9 million bushels of corn to obtain the same energy content from ethanol. …”

“…If all the U.S. cropland (371 million acres) were planted in corn to produce ethanol, it would provide 111 billion equivalent gallons of gasoline, but Americans currently consume more than 140 billion gallons of gasoline. So, if Americans imported all of their food (or starved to death), they still would only attain 80 percent of their gasoline needs if it had to come from domestically produced ethanol.

Simply put, renewable energy sources are, and will be, only capable of supplying a small part of our energy needs. Oil, gas, coal and nuclear will be the major energy sources for many more decades. However, the reason the U.S. depends so much on foreign oil (and gas) is that Congress will not allow drilling in ANWR and many other places. For instance, 85 percent of the potential offshore oil and natural gas development sites off the coasts of the Lower 48 states are now restricted by the government. …”

Sticker shock at the grocery store? Tips on saving

CNBC’s Vera Gibbons deciphers those fresh (and high!) supermarket prices

What’s behind the rising prices?
“…Food costs are increasing at nearly a 6 percent clip per year, double what the government had forecast. There are a number of factors, but two seem to stick out above the rest. For one, transportation costs have been up. When that happens, it costs more to get products to the stores, and the companies are simply passing down the added expense to shoppers.

Another big factor is the high price of corn, thanks in part to increasing demand for corn-based ethanol. Prices have nearly doubled over the past two years, so the prices of everything from cereals and sodas to beef and milk are going up as well. …”

Auto Cafe Standards: Unsafe and Unwise at Any Level

by William G. Laffer III

“…Cafe Kills

While conservation of fuel is valued by proponents of higher CAFE standards, they usually ignore what is more important: human life. The evidence now is overwhelming that CAFE kills. The reason is simple. The easiest way to increase a vehicle’s fuel efficiency, and beyond a certain point the only way, is to reduce the vehicle’s weight by reducing its size and its steel content. While technological improvements in engines or body design also contribute to increased fuel efficiency, there are limits to what technology alone can do. In fact, other federal regulations often limit such improvements. Controls on auto emissions, for example, have forced changes in engine and exhaust system design that reduce gas mileage. (Thomas Gale Moore, “The Unresolved Conflict Between Auto Safety and Fuel Efficiency,” Journal of Regulation and Social Costs, Vol. 1, No. 1 (September 1990), p. 72.)

Light-weight Cars
As such, reducing auto weight is the main means by which CAFE standards have been met. The weight of the average American automobile has been reduced 23 percent since 1974. (Robert W. Crandall and John D. Graham, “The Effect of Fuel Economy Standards on Automobile Safety,” Journal of Law and Economics, Vol. XXXII (April 1989), p. 101.) Cars over 4,000 pounds accounted for about one-quarter of all cars sold during the 1978 model year; they constitute only one percent of the cars built since 1984. Cars of more than 3,500 pounds made up over 70 percent of the 1978 fleet, but were only 36 percent of the 1987 fleet. (R.M. Heavenrich, et al., “Light-Duty Automotive Fuel Economy and Technology Trends Through 1987,” Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc., Technical Papers Series, May 1987, p. 12.) …”

Bill Clinton–White Trashing–Black Man–Barack Obama

Seems like both Bill and Hillary Clinton like to dump on black politicians no matter what their political party.

The real agent of change is who–Hillary Clinton–you are lying Bill! Hillary Clinton handling of your administration’s  health care proposed program was a complete and total failure and disaster. Had she been a cabinet member she should have been fired or asked to resign. Neither intelligence or vision is a substitute for wisdom which you both lack.

She is a back to the past scandals of Bill Clinton administrations. This is one sequel that the American people will not want to see.

The American people do not easily forget nor forgive the interview that saved your campaign for the nomination and the bold face lies both of you told:

Neither a Bush nor a Clinton will be elected President in 2008.

Time for a real change!

The Hillary Clinton Moment: Live By The Planted Question Lose By The Planted Question Boomerang

Boomerang

Boomerang.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boomerang

In many political campaigns there is the moment in which the leading candidate says or does something that ends their chances of winning either the nomination of their party or the election for the office they are running for.

The Hillary Clinton cadre have been planting questions in the audiences and debates and one just boomeranged big time:

“…3:15pm: Obama gets an interesting foreign policy question – why is it that he relies on many foreign policy advisers from the Clinton administration. Best moment of either Iowa debate as Clinton laughs and says she wants to hear and answer to that question as well – in other words, how would his policy differ from hers? Obama shoots back, “Hillary, I’m looking forward to you advising me as well,” and says he wants to get advice from everywhere. …”

Glenn Beck – “Hillary Clinton Laugh Montage” (10/2/07)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlF12X1dCeo

The are many reasons why so many Bill Clinton domestic and foreign policy advisors are now advising or working for her opponent Senator Barack Obama.

However the leading reasons are they do not like nor trust Senator Hillary Clinton and believe she will lose both the nomination and election.

Senator Obama is a likeable and decent guy and from a far Liberal Leftist point of view he was right about the war.

The Clinton cadre are not laughing any more.

Especially after receiving another foul mouthed tongue lashing from Her Highness Hillary.

 OBAMA SCORES IN CLINTON EXCHANGE

“One of the livelier exchanges in the debate came when moderator asked, Senator Obama, you have Bill Clinton’s former national security advisor, state department policy director, and navy secretary, among others, advising you. With relatively little foreign policy experience of your own, how will you rely on so many Clinton advisors and still deliver the kind of break from the past that you are promising voters?

As Clinton laughed and said, “I want to hear that” (meaning his response), Obama scored by saying: “Well, Hillary, I’m looking forward to having you as an advisor as well.” He added, “I want to gather up talent from everywhere. …”

Democrats Waltz Through Iowa Debate

“…But the reality is that the race, at least for now, remains a three-way competition between Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards. While there was no direct mention of some of the issues which these three have bickered about in the past, each managed to set themselves apart in ways the Republicans did not. If there was a winner, it may have been Edwards. His answers to almost every question hewed to his populist themes of sticking up for the disadvantaged and sticking it to corporate America. That should play well among Democrats in Iowa.

Obama was once again the “hope” candidate, urging Democrats to seize the moment and the movement he appears to be riding. A question about his reliance on former Clinton administration officials for foreign policy advice could have been a bad moment for him as he tried to differentiate his approach to candidate Clinton’s. But he was saved by a return of the Clinton “laugh.” …”

Is Hillary Clinton’s Campaign in Meltdown Mode?

“…Is the Hillary Clinton’s campaign in full meltdown mode? Probably not, but right now things are not looking good for the one candidate who was thought to be the inevitable nominee just a few short months ago. In reality, Hillary Clinton’s own worse enemy has been herself. When Hillary answers questions in a way that seems too smooth and scripted, most democratic voters just tune out her answers. In a way, I think Hillary Clinton is trying to campaign in the same style as her husband, former President Bill Clinton. However, she was not blessed with the same communication skills as the former President was, so her delivery sounds scripted and preplanned to almost all questions asked. The top person responsible for prepping Hillary Clinton for public debates needs to back off and let this lady show the American people who she really is, instead of filling her head with quick answers to complex questions that are commonly asked at debates. Hillary Clinton is in real trouble right now in the states of Iowa and New Hampshire, but she is far from out of the democratic race. …”

Mike Huckabee Rising: The American Elites vs. The American People

Posted on December 13, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Economics, Immigration, Links, Politics, Raves, Taxes, Video |

Mike Huckabee, Republician candidate for President of The United States of America has been rising in the polls.

Mike Huckabee was not my first, second, third or even fourth choice. Actually like most Americans, I never heard of him until he decided to run for President.

For that matter the American elites of both parties are now in attack mode to knock him down if not out of the race by attacking him on support of the FairTax.

The Wall Street Journal’s recent attacks on the FairTax were lame, laughable and lacking in a basic understanding of the FairTax.

When you cannot get the facts straight you lose credibility. I expected a lot more from Paul  A. Gigot and Bruce Bartlett of the Wall Street Journal.

Why?

Simple, Mike Huckabee holds the right positions on the two leading isssues of the 2008 Presidential Election–illegal immigration and tax reform!

The vast majority of the American people of both political parties agree with his views on these two key issues.

The political establishment and elites of both political parties hold opposing views on these two top political issues.

Mike Huckabee is articulate and likeable and right on the top two issues that concern the American people.

Mike Huckabee is the political establishment and elites of both parties worst nightmare and they are running scared. Wonderfull!

Winning a Presidential election requires what I call MOMMA–Money-Organization-Message-Momentum-Ambition.

While Huckabee is very strong on message, momentum and ambition, he currently lacks both money and a national campaign organization.

Governor Huckabee’s major weakness at the moment is a lack of campaign money to fund a national campaign organization and pay for media–television and radio ads.

The money challenge can be quickly changed via the internet and some early wins in the primaries.

Mike Huckabee did not get it completely right on the illegal immigration or criminal alien removal issue at first.

However, he quickly modified his initial position and now has a strong position on this issue–seal the borders and remove or deport all criminal aliens.

Huckabee Says He’d Seal Mexican Border (Finally got it right!)

(Got it about 75% right–too bad for he favors the Fair Tax)

Most of the Republician candidates got it right on the illegal immigration issue from the start including  Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.

None of the Democratic candidates did with their comprehensive immigration reform, a code word for amnesty for criminal aliens.

However, when it came to the issue of tax reform both Romney and Thompson listened to their campaign consultants and financial backers and opposed the FairTax.

Very big mistake.

Mike Huckabee embraced the FairTax and in so doing got it right on the second hottest issue after illegal immigration or criminal alien removal–tax reform.

The establishment and elites of both political parties are completely out-of-touch with their political bases.

They support both open borders and amnesty for criminal aliens and the existing federal income and employment tax system.

The Democrats are completely hopeless on taxes and tax reform.

The Democrats want higher tax rates and more taxes and more government spending.

They want the American people to depend on them and government programs.

Thanks but no thanks. Just say no.

I am a long time member of the conservative movement and consider myself a libertarian or classical liberal.

I am getting very tired of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Mike Huckabee got it right on both illegal immigration and tax reform.

The question is will either Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson have an epiphany and now reveal their support of the FairTax.

http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer

Since we are fast approaching the season the of epiphany, time will tell.

http://www.cresourcei.org/cyepiph.html

If either wins their party’s nomination I will probably vote for him in November.

If not, I will be casting my vote for Mike Huckabee now matter what the party affililation.

May be I will give a man from Hope a second chance.

The American people are strong believers in redemption and a second chance.

While Congress wraps up a four-day hearing on a wide gamut of tax issues, commentator Stephen Moore offers a fair alternative: a national sales tax.

Comes the Fair Tax

The latest in the push for saner, more effective taxation in the United States

MARK HEMINGWAY
9/24/2007

“…The biggest success story of the 2008 Republican primary season isn’t about a candidate. It’s about an issue: FairTax, a proposal that would eliminate income taxes outright and replace them with a national sales tax. From relative obscurity a year ago, the FairTax campaign has come to dominate Republican politics at the grassroots level, especially in battleground states like Iowa, where the GOP’s state chairman has said, “The most important economic reform Congress can enact to win the fight against poverty is the FairTax.”

Implementing FairTax would, in short, throw the existing tax code out the window and replace it with a national sales tax. Given that most Americans hate the IRS with the heat of a thousand suns, it’s surprising only that a proposal to completely overhaul the American tax system hasn’t caught fire earlier on the campaign trail. But now, FairTax is smoking. …”

Prototyping

Prototyping is the process of quickly putting together a working model (a prototype) in order to test various aspects of a design, illustrate ideas or features and gather early user feedback. Prototyping is often treated as an integral part of the system design process, where it is believed to reduce project risk and cost. Often one or more prototypes are made in a process of iterative and incremental development where each prototype is influenced by the performance of previous designs, in this way problems or deficiencies in design can be corrected. When the prototype is sufficiently refined and meets the functionality, robustness, manufacturability and other design goals, the product is ready for production. …”

Disinformation

Disinformation is the deliberate dissemination of false information. It may include the distribution of forged documents, manuscripts, and photographs, or propagation of malicious rumours and fabricated intelligence. In the context of espionage or military intelligence, it is the deliberate spreading of false information to mislead an enemy as to one’s position or course of action. It also includes the distortion of true information in such a way as to render it useless.

Disinformation techniques may also be found in commerce and government, used by one group to try to undermine the position of a competitor. It in fact is the act of deception and blatant false statements to convince someone of an untruth. Cooking-the-books might be considered a disinformation strategy that led to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.

Unlike traditional propaganda and Big Lie techniques designed to engage emotional support, disinformation is designed to manipulate the audience at the rational level by either discrediting conflicting information or supporting false conclusions.

Another technique of concealing facts, or censorship, is also used if the group can affect such control. When channels of information cannot be completely closed, they can be rendered useless by filling them with disinformation, effectively lowering their signal-to-noise ratio. …”

New Study Explodes Human-Global Warming Story

“…Writing in the International Journal of Climatology of the Royal Meteorological Society, professor David H. Douglass (of the University of Rochester), professor John R. Christy (of the University of Alabama), Benjamin D. Pearson and professor S. Fred Singer (of the University of Virginia) report that observed patterns of temperature changes (“fingerprints”) over the last 30 years disagree with what greenhouse models predict and can better be explained by natural factors, such as solar variability.

The conclusion is that climate change is “unstoppable” and cannot be affected or modified by controlling the emission of greenhouse gases, such as CO2, as is proposed in current legislation.  …”

“…The mechanism for producing such cyclical climate changes is still under discussion; but they are most likely caused by variations in the solar wind and associated magnetic fields that affect the flux of cosmic rays incident on the earth’s atmosphere.

“In turn, such cosmic rays are believed to influence cloudiness and thereby control the amount of sunlight reaching the earth’s surface and thus the climate.

“…Our research demonstrates that the ongoing rise of atmospheric CO2 has only a minor influence on climate change. We must conclude, therefore, that attempts to control CO2 emissions are ineffective and pointless — but very costly.”

NO ‘Consensus’ on “Man-Made” Global Warming

http://www.populartechnology.net/2007/10/no-consensus-on-global-warming.html

Lawrence Solomon, Financial Post

Published: Saturday, June 02, 2007

National Post’s Deniers series:
“Scientists who challenge the climate change debate
Somewhere along the way, I stopped believing that a scientific consensus exists on climate change. Certainly there is no consensus at the very top echelons of scientists — the ranks from which I have been drawing my subjects — and certainly there is no consensus among astrophysicists and other solar scientists, several of whom I have profiled. If anything, the majority view among these subsets of the scientific community may run in the opposite direction. Not only do most of my interviewees either discount or disparage the conventional wisdom as represented by the IPCC, many say their peers generally consider it to have little or no credibility. In one case, a top scientist told me that, to his knowledge, no respected scientist in his field accepts the IPCC position.

What of the one claim that we hear over and over again, that 2,000 or 2,500 of the world’s top scientists endorse the IPCC position? I asked the IPCC for their names, to gauge their views. “The 2,500 or so scientists you are referring to are reviewers from countries all over the world,” the IPCC Secretariat responded. “The list with their names and contacts will be attached to future IPCC publications, which will hopefully be on-line in the second half of 2007.”

“…More than six months ago, I began writing this series, The Deniers. When I began, I accepted the prevailing view that scientists overwhelmingly believe that climate change threatens the planet. I doubted only claims that the dissenters were either kooks on the margins of science or sell-outs in the pockets of the oil companies. …”

John Stossel – The Global Warming Debate 10/20/07

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FI0U5JOtoo

John Stossel Exposes Global Warming Myths

“…In a release from ABC previewing Stossel’s report on Friday’s “20/20,” the veteran newsman and Newsmax pundit – who won 19 Emmys exposing scammers and con artists – says:

“This week on ‘20/20’ (in our new 8 p.m. Eastern time slot) I say ‘Give Me a Break!’ to our Nobel Prize-winning Vice President.

“Mr. Gore says ‘The debate is over,’ and those who disagree with his take on global warming have been ‘purchased’ in order to create ‘the illusion of a debate.’ Nonsense. It’s as if the Vice President and his allies in the environmental movement plan to win the debate through intimidation. I interview some scientists who won’t be intimidated, even though one has had his life threatened for speaking up.

“The Vice President’s much-applauded movie, ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ claims warming is man’s fault and a coming crisis! While the earth has certainly warmed over the last century, plenty of independent scientists say scientists cannot be sure that man caused the warming or that warming will be a crisis.

“They say the computer models that are used to predict the disasters don’t include important variables because scientists don’t fully understand them. For example, warming may cause cloud formations that reflect sun and cool the earth. The computer models cannot know. These scientists call global warming activism more of a religious movement than science.”

Gore’s film is filled with “misleading messages,” says Stossel. …”

….

“…I suspect that next year’s government boondoggle will be massive spending on carbon-reducing technology.

“It reminds me of George Mason University Economics Department Chairman Don Boudreax’s suggestion that such schemes really mean ‘government seizing enormous amounts of additional power in order to embark upon schemes of social engineering – schemes whose pursuit gratifies the abstract fantasies of the theory class and, simultaneously, lines the very real pockets of politically powerful corporations, organizations, and “experts.”’

“He is so right. The abstract fantasies of the theory class will soon send huge chunks of your money to politicians, friends, activist scientists, and politically savvy corporations.

“The debate is over? That makes me say GIVE ME A BREAK!”

The Passion of Romney

Posted on December 8, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Economics, Immigration, Politics, Quotations, Raves, Religion, Reviews, Taxes, Video |

Occassions do not make a man either strong or weak but they show what he is.

~Thomas Kempis

A wonderful and morally courageous speech by Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

“…What do I believe about Jesus Christ? I believe that Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of mankind. My church’s beliefs about Christ may not all be the same as those of other faiths. Each religion has it own unique doctrines and history. These are not bases for criticism but rather a test of our tolerance. Religious tolerance would be a shallow principle if it were reserved only for faiths with which we agree. …”

“…[T]he notion of separation of church and state has been taken by some beyond its original meaning,” Romney said. “They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgement of God. Religion is seen as merely a private affair with no place in the public life. It is as if they are intent on establishing a new religion in America – the religion of secularism. They are wrong. …”

“…We should acknowledge the Creator as did the founders – in ceremony and word. He should remain in our currency, in our pledge, in the teaching of our history and, during the holiday seasons, nativity scenes and menorahs should be welcome in our public places. …”

Most if not all traditional conservatives and libertarians would agree with former Governor Romney as would the majority of the American people.

The American Liberal left and religious bigots appear to be the primary ones that keep bringing up the candidate’s religious faith.

Fortunately the vast majority of the American people could care less that Mitt Romney is  member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or Mormon Church.

For those still interested in the religious affiliation of past Presidents of the United States, here is link to a complete list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidential_religious_affiliations

I will resist making any comments of their performance as President so as not offend those who are easily offended–the political correct police,

The American people are electing a President of The United States of America and Commander in Chief.

The American people are not selecting a religion or pastor or establishing a national religion.

A candidate’s religion should not be an issue and those raising Mitt Romney’s religion run a very high risk of alienating many voters.

There are two major political issues that the American people are demanding action and a new direction: illegal immigration and taxes on consumption not income with a national sales tax.

Most of the Republican candidates are right on the illegal immigration or criminal alien removal issue but very few are addressing taxes on consumption and supporting the Fair Tax.

Now if Governor Romney would only support the Fair Tax I would vote for him for President.

He is right on immigration but the American people want taxes on consumption not income–the Fair Tax.

“If Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination, it will be due in large measure to his splendid and moving defense of his faith and beliefs delivered today at the George Bush Presidential Library. The address was courageous in a way John F. Kennedy’s speech to the Baptist ministers was not. Kennedy went to Houston to assure the ministers he agreed with them on virtually every issue where they differed with the Catholic agenda and that his faith would not affect any decision he made as president. He called himself “the Democratic Party’s candidate for president who happens also to be a Catholic.”

The Planted Assumption of The National Intelligence Estimate On Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Program: Assumes It Conclusion–CYA From Partisan Authors!

Natanz Nuclear Facility from above

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/12/03/asia/cia.php

Must be expecting some USAF and Navy bombers, fighters and cruise missiles:

Natanz Nuclear Facility on the ground

Natanz nuclear.jpg

The conclusion of the new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Program is that Iran halted the program in 2003.

If Iran did halt their nuclear weapons program and if it remains on hold, the reason is due to fear of the United States Armed Forces  attacking Iran after victory in Iraq and not diplomatic pressure.

Well who wrote the report and what assumptions were made:

Thomas Fingar

Vann H. Van Diepen

William Brill

Not a Time to be Diplomatic

If you wondered whether the U.S. intelligence community could possibly perform even more dismally than it has of late with respect to various aspects of the terrorist and proliferation threat, the answer is now in. Even worse is in certain prospect if Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte goes forward with his reported offer to Ambassador Kenneth Brill to become director of the just-announced National Counter-Proliferation Center (NCPC). As his honorific suggests, Ambassador Brill is not an intelligence professional. Neither has he had any operational experience that would qualify him for a position that will, if it is to be successful, require close coordination with and perhaps direction of U.S. military and other assets capable of performing intercepts to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. …”“…The last thing the United States needs at the pinnacle of the intelligence apparatus assigned to countering what is widely agreed to be the most dangerous threat of our time — the scourge and spread of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of terrorists and their state-sponsors — is someone whose past track record suggests that he misperceives the threat, opposes the use of effective techniques to counter it and is constitutionally disposed to accommodate rather than defeat the proliferators.Kenneth Brill is the wrong man for the wrong job. President Bush has made a point of expressing his confidence in Ambassador Negroponte and given him substantial latitude in personnel and substantive matters. If the DNI does not recognize the folly of this appointment, however, it is incumbent upon the president to appoint as NCPC director someone with the intelligence and/or operational skills — to say nothing of the judgment and strategic vision — necessary to perform it competently.”http://www.nationalreview.com/gaffney/gaffney200507011147.asp

U.S. Intel Possibly Duped by Iran

By: Kenneth R. Timmerman

“…The National Intelligence Council, which produced the NIE, is chaired by Thomas Fingar, “a State Department intelligence analyst with no known overseas experience who briefly headed the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research,” I wrote in my book “Shadow Warriors: The Untold Story of Traitors, Saboteurs, and the Party of Surrender.”Fingar was a key partner of Senate Democrats in their successful effort to derail the confirmation of John Bolton in the spring of 2005 to become the U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations. As the head of the NIC, Fingar has gone out of his way to fire analysts “who asked the wrong questions,” and who challenged the politically-correct views held by Fingar and his former State Department colleagues, as revealed in “Shadow Warriors.””…Collaborating with Fingar on the Iran estimate, released on Monday, were Kenneth Brill, the director of the National Counterproliferation Center, and Vann H. Van Diepen, the National Intelligence officer for Weapons of Mass Destruction and Proliferation.“Van Diepen was an enormous problem,” a former colleague of his from the State Department told me when I was fact gathering for “Shadow Warriors.”“He was insubordinate, hated WMD sanctions, and strived not to implement them,” even though it was his specific responsibility at State to do so, the former colleague told me.Kenneth Brill, also a career foreign service officer, had been the U.S. representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna in 2003-2004 before he was forced into retirement.”Shadow Warrior” reports, “While in Vienna, Brill consistently failed to confront Iran once its clandestine nuclear weapons program was exposed in February 2003, and had to be woken up with the bureaucratic equivalent of a cattle prod to deliver a single speech condemning Iran’s eighteen year history of nuclear cheating.”

 http://www.newsmax.com/timmerman/iran_nukes/2007/12/04/54359.html

Iran: Nuclear Intentions and Capabilities

“…This NIE does not assume that Iran intends to acquire nuclear weapons. Rather, it

examines the intelligence to assess Iran’s capability and intent (or lack thereof) to acquire

nuclear weapons, taking full account of Iran’s dual-use uranium fuel cycle and those

nuclear activities that are at least partly civil in nature. …”

Page 4 of the NIE:

http://www.dni.gov/press_releases/20071203_release.pdf

The authors assume that Iran is not pursuing a nuclear program and the text is in bold.

Stop right there.

Excuse me but assuming your conclusions does not cut it and is very misleading.

Nice try in covering your asses (CYA), but I for one can read despite being educated in government schools.

I lost confidence in United States intelligence community after its biggest failure on September 11, 2001.

I have almost no confidence in the following:

2007 National Intelligence Estimate

“…We judge with moderate confidence that the

earliest possible date Iran would be technically

capable of producing enough highly enriched

uranium (HEU) for a weapon is late 2009, but that

this is very unlikely. We judge with moderate

confidence Iran probably would be technically

capable of producing enough HEU for a weapon

sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame. (INR

judges that Iran is unlikely to achieve this

capability before 2013 because of foreseeable

technical and programmatic problems.)

We judge with moderate confidence that the

earliest possible date Iran would be technically

capable of producing enough highly enriched

uranium (HEU) for a weapon is late 2009, but that

this is very unlikely….”

Page 9 of NIE

http://www.dni.gov/press_releases/20071203_release.pdf

“…Moderate confidence generally means that the information is credibly sourced and plausible

but not of sufficient quality or corroborated sufficiently to warrant a higher level of

confidence. …”

Page 5 of NIE

Dr. Fingar got it right in July of this year. Now he is changing his assessment.

Global Security Assessment for the House Armed Services Committee July 11, 2007

Dr. Thomas Fingar, Deputy Director for Analysis

IRAN ASSESSED AS DETERMINED TO DEVELOP NUCLEAR WEAPONS

Iran and North Korea are the states of most concern to us. The United States’ concerns about Iran are shared by many nations, including many of Iran’s neighbors. Iran is continuing to pursue uranium enrichment and has shown more interest in protracting negotiations and working to delay and diminish the impact of UNSC sanctions than in reaching an acceptable diplomatic solution. We assess that Tehran is determined to develop nuclear weapons—despite its international obligations and international pressure. This is a grave concern to the other countries in the region whose security would be threatened should Iran acquire nuclear weapons. …”

A full and complete explanation to the American people is in order from the authors of the new National Intelligence Estimate.

Israel challenges report on nukes

“…Israel still insists that there is as little as two years to stop Iran from going nuclear, while the new U.S. assessment finds that unlikely to happen before 2010 to 2015. …”

http://washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071205/FOREIGN/112050069/1001

Israel Unconvinced Iran Has Dropped Nuclear Program

“…“It is apparently true that in 2003 Iran stopped pursuing its military nuclear program for a certain period of time,” Defense Minister Ehud Barak told Israeli Army Radio. “But in our estimation, since then it is apparently continuing with its program to produce a nuclear weapon.”

“…While the Americans think Iran has stopped its nuclear weapons program while continuing to enrich uranium as rapidly as it can, Israel thinks that Iran has resumed its nuclear weapons program with the clear aim of building a nuclear bomb.

Israel must act in accordance with its intelligence estimates, Mr. Barak suggested. “It is our responsibility to ensure that the right steps are taken against the Iranian regime. As is well known, words don’t stop missiles.”

Assessments may differ, Mr. Barak said, “but we cannot allow ourselves to rest just because of an intelligence report from the other side of the earth, even if it is from our greatest friend. …”

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/05/world/middleeast/05webreact.html?em&ex=1196917200&en=3c76117a54b5f349&ei=5087%0A

 Keep Up The Pressure

“…First, the good news. To go nuclear, you need three things: a) the raw material, b) the ability to turn the raw material into a weapon and c) the missiles with which to deliver the weapon. Regarding a and c, Iran is proceeding with alacrity and determination on uranium enrichment (with 2,000 to 3,000 centrifuges running) and on the development and testing of long-range missiles. It is the intermediate step–weaponizing the uranium into a bomb–that the intelligence estimate tells us has been suspended.

Now the caveats. First, weaponization is the most opaque of the three elements. Iran has never declared it or admitted it. Accurate information about it would be hardest to come by. Second, the logic is odd. We now believe weaponization was suspended in fall 2003, at the same time uranium enrichment was suspended. However, when uranium enrichment was resumed a few months after Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s accession to power, the weaponization program (we are now told) was not.

This does not make a lot of sense. Uranium enrichment is more public and therefore more likely to bring sanctions–which, of course, it did. Why reactivate that and not the covert weaponization program–inherently a less open provocation? And why invest enormous resources on the centrifuges for enrichment and on the missiles for delivery if you’re not going to eventually weaponize? …”

Anti-Bush, Ex-State Department Bureaucrats Sabotaged the Iran NIE

“…The three main authors of this report are former State Department officials with previous reputations that should lead one to doubt their conclusions.  All three are ex-bureaucrats who, as is generally true of State Department types, favor endless rounds of negotiation and ‘diplomacy’ and oppose confrontation. These three officials, according to the Wall Street Journal, have ‘reputations as hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials.’  ‘They are Tom Fingar, formerly of the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research; Vann Van Diepen, the National Intelligence Officer for WMD; and Kenneth Brill, the former U.S. Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’ Tom Fingar was a State Department employee who was an expert on China and Germany — he has no notable experience, according to his bio in the Middle East and its geopolitics. Vann Van Diepen is also a career State Department bureaucrat, who, according to the New York Sun, is one of the State Department bureaucrats who want ‘revenge’ for having their views regarding Iran ignored by the Bush Administration. He is now seeking to further his own agenda. …”

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_120507/content/01125107.guest.html

The suspect provenance of the NIE report

“The Wall Street Journal editorial that ran this morning  echoes and expands upon suspicions first articulated by the New York Sun that the National Intelligence Estimate was cooked up by bureaucrats eager to embarrass George Bush and transform US policy towards Iran.

A dynamic is at work that will serve Iranian interests by throwing a wrench in plans to expand sanctions against it for its nuclear program; it also will serve to veto any plans to attack its nuclear facilities.

The three main authors of this report are former State Department officials with previous reputations that should lead one to doubt their conclusions. All three are ex-bureaucrats who, as is generally true of State Department types, favor endless rounds of negotiation and “diplomacy” and oppose confrontation. These three officials, according to the Wall Street Journal, have “reputations as hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials”. …

“The judgment that’s stirring up all the controversy — and it’s a real shocker — comes in the very first sentence: We judge with high confidence that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program.   The judgment is astonishing for two reasons.  First, it flies in the face of virtually everything we know – or thought we knew — about the Iranian regime, its capabilities and its intentions.  Second, If the new Key Judgment is correct it means that Iran had halted its nuclear weapons program fully two years before publication of the National Intelligence Council’s 2005 Estimate on this same subject, which concluded “with high confidence” that Iran “currently is determined to develop nuclear weapons….”

NIE: other things going on

“Here is a my quick reflection on the top news story of the day: the intelligence community’s assessment on Iran’s nuclear program.

1.  The intelligence community was unaware that Al Qaeda was about to strike on 9/11. So wrong on that one.

2. They did, however, think Iraq was in the process of completing a nuclear program. They appear to have been wrong on that one.

3. They thought Iran was on the verge of a nuclear weapons program in 2005. Now the intelligence community tells us they were wrong on that one too.  But now they are right, presumably, when they tell us that Iran gave up its nuclear weapons program in 2003.  I don’t buy it.

I think other things are going on, namely:

1. The intelligence community is  bitter for being blamed for its failure to anticipate 9/11, and for being  blamed for bad intelligence that led to  the Iraq war.

2. So the safe route is to downplay the likelihood of an Iranian nuclear weapons program. That surely diminishes the likelihood off an American military action against Iran. And the intelligence community can not then be blamed for another war, if the intelligence that led to the decision to go to war was wrong. And if they are wrong this time (and were right in 2005), and there is a nuclear weapons program? Well, it is Israel that most likely suffers, not the US  directly (in the short run). …”

Iran’s nuclear ambitions on hold, U.S. agencies conclude

“U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that international pressure has compelled the Islamic Republic to back away from its pursuit of the bomb.

The new findings represent a retreat from a fundamental U.S. assumption about one of its main adversaries, and an admission that a central component of previous intelligence estimates on Tehran’s nuclear program was wrong. But the report makes it clear that Iran could decide at any point to resume its efforts to develop a nuclear weapon.

The assessment, which represents the consensus of the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies, including the CIA and the National Security Agency, is expected to have major implications for the ongoing debate over whether to confront Iran militarily or through diplomatic means, an issue that has been a source of friction within the Bush administration and with some members of the international community. …”

U.S. Says Iran Ended Atomic Arms Work

A new assessment by American intelligence agencies concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains frozen, contradicting judgment two years ago that Tehran was working relentlessly toward building a nuclear bomb.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/03/world/middleeast/03cnd-iran.html?hp

U.S. report says Iran halted nuclear weapons program in 2003

“A new assessment by American intelligence agencies concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains on hold, contradicting an assessment two years ago that Tehran was working inexorably toward building a bomb.

The conclusions are likely to be major factor in the tense international negotiations aimed at getting Iran to halt its nuclear energy program, and they come in the middle of a U.S. presidential campaign during which a possible military strike against Iran’s nuclear program has been discussed.

The new assessment, a National Intelligence Estimate that represents the consensus of all 16 American spy agencies, states that Tehran’s ultimate intentions about gaining a nuclear weapon remain unclear, but that Iran’s “decisions are guided by a cost-benefit approach rather than a rush to a weapon irrespective of the political, economic and military costs. …”

Bush Bound for Israel Amid Differences on Iran

“…First reported in the Israeli press yesterday, The New York Sun confirmed from American officials that the visit is in the offing. It is scheduled for January. On the heels of a new American intelligence estimate on Iran’s nuclear weapons program that could scuttle a third U.N. Security Council resolution against the Islamic Republic, the visit will be a powerful symbol to Tehran, whose leadership has pledged to destroy Israel.

Mr. Bush yesterday signaled that his press to end Iran’s enrichment of uranium would continue despite the new National Intelligence Estimate that considers the Iranian uranium enrichment at Natanz to be separate from its nuclear energy program.

“I still feel strongly that Iran is a danger,” Mr. Bush said. “Nothing has changed in this NIE that says, ‘Okay, why don’t we just stop worrying about it.’ Quite the contrary. I think the NIE makes it clear that Iran needs to be taken seriously as a threat to peace. My opinion hasn’t changed. …”

NIE Credibility Crumbling – HAD OPPOSITE CONCLUSION 120 DAYS AGO

Fingar, Brill, and Van Diepen
“Ever heard of dirty political tricks?

So can someone please explain something to me? The NIE’s three main authors, I’ll call them Larry, Moe, and Curly…are all former State Department officials with previous reputations as hyper-partisan anti-Bush officials. They are Tom Fingar, formerly of the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research; Vann Van Diepen, the National Intelligence Officer for WMD; and Kenneth Brill, the former U.S. Ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency. …”

Iran, Nuclear Weapons, and the NIE

“…if Iran’s program was indeed halted due to international pressure and scrutiny, now is the time to ramp up the pressure on Iran to abandon its fuel-cycle activities. After all, Iran today has 3,000 centrifuges operational, and continues to accelerate this effort despite two rounds of U.N. sanctions. At this pace, many experts estimate Tehran can produce enough fissile material for a nuclear weapon in a short while. Coupled with reports that Iran acquired a nuclear weapons design from the AQ Khan network, we have much to be concerned about with Iran’s “peaceful civilian” program. Yet in the wake of the NIE’s release, international resolve is likely to weaken (led by China and Russia) giving Iran’s Revolutionary Guard the perfect opportunity to re-start their weapons program. …”

Just 18% Believe Iran has Stopped Nuclear Weapons Development Program

Presidential Candidates on Illegal Immigration, Criminal Alien Removal and Social Service Benefits

Posted on December 3, 2007. Filed under: Blogroll, Economics, Immigration, Links, Politics, Rants, Taxes, Technology, Uncategorized, Video |

“No man is above the law and no man is below it; nor do we ask any man’s permission when we require him to obey it.”

~Theodore Roosevelt

The American people want all thirty million criminal aliens removed and deported to their country of origin.

The American people want none of their hard earned income going towards taxes to pay for government public schools, welfare and medical benefits for any criminal aliens including their dependents except for true medical emergencies.

The American people are not suckers; and they are tired of paying significantly higher local and state taxes for schools, colleges, hospitals, welfare, jails and prisons for criminal aliens.

The American people are mad; and they are not going to vote for any candidate of either party who even appears not to understand the issue or lacks the will to enforce existing immigration laws.

Comprehensive immigration reform is a code word for amnesty.

None of this humane treatment and path to citizenship for criminal aliens, sanctuary cities and a virtual fence  nonsense.

Enforce existing immigration laws and build the entire border security fences with patrols.

Hire American citizens.

Deport criminal aliens.

Stop importing and exploiting poverty.

It is not very hard to understand.

It seems the majority of American politicians of both parties, their political consultants and the talking heads on TV are having a difficult time understanding this issue.

Keep trying to fool the American people and a third party will be formed to remove you from office and power and to enforce existing laws on immigration.

Black and union leaders better wake up as well for their people and members are not going to continue to vote for Democratic candidates that are more interested in criminal alien votes than theirs.

A Description of the Immigrant Population

“…The Census Bureau estimated that the number of foreign-born people living in the United States topped 33 million and accounted for nearly 12 percent of the population in 2003–its highest share since 1930. Half of those people have arrived in the United States since 1990, and the foreign-born population is now growing at a rate of about 1 million per year. Between the 1990 and 2000 censuses, the foreign-born population grew by more than 11 million, accounting for about 35 percent of total population growth. Estimates of the portion of immigrants who are unauthorized range from 7 million to 10 million, although in the absence of reliable data, those estimates are subject to considerable uncertainty.

More than half of the total foreign-born population originated in Latin America, with Mexico by far the single largest source. The number of immigrants from Asia has also grown rapidly since the 1960s. In contrast, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the vast majority of immigrants came from Europe.

The foreign-born population is quite concentrated geographically, more so than people born in the United States. More than two-thirds of the foreign-born population reside in one of six states (California, Texas, New York, Florida, Illinois, and New Jersey), and the majority of newly admitted legal immigrants continue to settle in those states. However, that concentration has diminished somewhat since 1990, and new major destinations include Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia, and Colorado. The foreign-born population also tends to be more concentrated in urban areas–especially central cities–than the native-born is, but as is the case generally in the United States, more than half of the foreign-born population now live in suburban areas.  …”
