Employers Add No Net Jobs in Aug.; Rate Unchanged

“…Employers stopped adding jobs in August, an alarming setback for an economy that has struggled to grow and might be at risk of another recession.

It was the weakest jobs report since September 2010. The unemployment rate remained at 9.1 percent.

Stock futures plunged on the news. In the 15 minutes after the report was released, Dow futures fell 94 points, from 11,401 to 11,318.

A strike by 45,000 Verizon workers lowered the job totals. Those workers are now back on the job.

The weakness in employment was underscored by revisions to the jobs data for June and July. Collectively, those figures were lowered to show 57,000 fewer jobs added. The downward revisions were all in government jobs.

The average work week also declined and hourly earnings fell by 3 cents to $23.09. …”

                         THE EMPLOYMENT SITUATION -- AUGUST 2011

Nonfarm payroll employment was unchanged (0) in August, and the unemployment
rate held at 9.1 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Employment in most major industries changed little over the month. Health
care continued to add jobs, and a decline in information employment reflected
a strike. Government employment continued to trend down, despite the return
of workers from a partial government shutdown in Minnesota.

Household Survey Data

The number of unemployed persons, at 14.0 million, was essentially unchanged
in August, and the unemployment rate held at 9.1 percent. The rate has shown
little change since April. (See table A-1.)

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (8.9
percent), adult women (8.0 percent), teenagers (25.4 percent), whites
(8.0 percent), blacks (16.7 percent), and Hispanics (11.3 percent) showed
little or no change in August. The jobless rate for Asians was 7.1 percent,
not seasonally adjusted. (See tables A-1, A-2, and A-3.)

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) was
about unchanged at 6.0 million in August and accounted for 42.9 percent of the
unemployed. (See table A-12.)

The labor force rose to 153.6 million in August. Both the civilian labor force
participation rate, at 64.0 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at
58.2 percent, were little changed. (See table A-1.)

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons (sometimes
referred to as involuntary part-time workers) rose from 8.4 million to 8.8
million in August. These individuals were working part time because their
hours had been cut back or because they were unable to find a full-time job.
(See table A-8.)

About 2.6 million persons were marginally attached to the labor force in
August, up from 2.4 million a year earlier. (The data are not seasonally
adjusted.) These individuals were not in the labor force, wanted and were
available for work, and had looked for a job sometime in the prior 12 months.
They were not counted as unemployed because they had not searched for work
in the 4 weeks preceding the survey. (See table A-16.)

Among the marginally attached, there were 977,000 discouraged workers in
August, down by 133,000 from a year earlier. (The data are not seasonally
adjusted.) Discouraged workers are persons not currently looking for work
because they believe no jobs are available for them. The remaining 1.6
million persons marginally attached to the labor force in August had not
searched for work in the 4 weeks preceding the survey for reasons such as
school attendance or family responsibilities. (See table A-16.)

Establishment Survey Data

Total nonfarm payroll employment, at 131.1 million, was unchanged (0) in
August. Employment changed little in most major private-sector industries.
(See table B-1.)

Health care employment rose by 30,000 in August. Ambulatory health care
services and hospitals added 18,000 and 8,000 jobs, respectively. Over the
past 12 months, health care employment has grown by 306,000.

Employment in mining continued to trend up in August (+6,000). Since reaching
a trough in October 2009, employment in mining has risen by 144,000, with
mining support activities accounting for most of the gain.

Within professional and business services, computer systems design and related
services added 8,000 jobs in August. Employment in temporary help services
changed little over the month (+5,000) and has shown little movement on net so
far this year.

Employment in the information industry declined by 48,000 in August. About
45,000 workers in the telecommunications industry were on strike and thus off
company payrolls during the survey reference period.

Manufacturing employment was essentially unchanged in August (-3,000),
following a gain of 36,000 in July. For the past 4 months, manufacturing has
added an average of 14,000 jobs per month, compared with an average of 35,000
jobs per month in the first 4 months of the year.

Elsewhere in the private sector, employment in construction; trade,
transportation, and utilities; financial activities; and leisure and
hospitality changed little over the month. 

Government employment continued to trend down over the month (-17,000).
Despite the return of about 22,000 workers from a partial government shutdown
in Minnesota, employment in state government changed little in August (+5,000).
Employment in local government continued to decline. Since employment peaked
in September 2008, local government has lost 550,000 jobs.

The average workweek for all employees on private nonfarm payrolls edged
down by 0.1 hour over the month to 34.2 hours. The manufacturing workweek
was 40.3 hours for the third consecutive month; factory overtime increased
by 0.1 hour over the month to 3.2 hours. The average workweek for production
and nonsupervisory employees on private nonfarm payrolls edged down to 33.5
hours in August, after holding at 33.6 hours for the prior 6 months. (See
tables B-2 and B-7.)

In August, average hourly earnings for all employees on private nonfarm
payrolls decreased by 3 cents, or 0.1 percent, to $23.09. This decline
followed an 11-cent gain in July. Over the past 12 months, average hourly
earnings have increased by 1.9 percent. In August, average hourly earnings
of private-sector production and nonsupervisory employees decreased by
2 cents, or 0.1 percent, to $19.47. (See tables B-3 and B-8.) 

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for June was revised from
+46,000 to +20,000, and the change for July was revised from +117,000 to
+85,000.

President Obama proposed 2011 budget is beyond fiscally irresponsible, it is dangerous.

The proposal will not be passed by Congress–it is dead on arrival–DOA.

That said the fact that President Obama would even propose such a budget is revealing.

President Obama is an economic illiterate that must rely upon his economic policy team made up of many Keynesians.

This is not surprising since the late John Maynard Keynes would recommend more government spending to lift the economy out of a recession.

There is only one big problem.

Keynes has repeatedly been shown to be wrong.

When his policy recommendations of government intervention into the economy have been followed, the recession is usually prolonged in its duration and negative impact on production and employment.

Keynesian Economics Is Wrong: Bigger Gov’t Is Not Stimulus


At first I thought he was receiving bad economic policy advice.

However I believe he knew exactly what he is doing.

President Obama is what they call a front man.

In a rock band that is the singer.

The real and important question is who is puppet Obama fronting for and what are their goals.

Leading candidates include unions, trial lawyers, large investment and commerical banks, large corporation, the very wealthy including George Soros and David Rockefeller, community organizations, a foreign government, or all of the above.

President Obama has been bought and paid for.

Obama will remain loyal to whoever controls him for the simple reason they are his source of money and influence.

Also, I suspect one or more parties has information that if released to the general public would destroy him.

Therefore, he will follow orders, even if this means he will be defeated in 2012.

I concluded a long time ago that Barack Obama was intentionally trying to both destroy jobs and wreck the U.S. economy.

I think Obama is seeing the writing on the wall and has been told to drop Vice-President Biden from the ticket in 2012 and replace him with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The wild card that President Obama’s controllers did not seriously take into consideration is the American people and the popularity of Sarah Palin among the conservative base in the Republican Party.

The grassroots Tea Party movement is growing every day.

This is especially true with over 26 million Americans seeking a full time job.

Obama has lost Republicans, Democrats, and Independents, conservative, libertarians, veterans, the elderly and is slowly but surely losing the young who cannot find jobs.

All of these people are joing the Tea Party movement.

What is really scaring the political class and elites is the anger and intensity of those in the grassroots Tea Party movement.

The political elites of the progressive radical socialist Democratic Party have nothing but fear and loathing of both the Tea Parties and Sarah Palin.

Their fear and loathing is palpable.

This is evidence by big media’s relenless attacks on Sarah Palin with the aim of destroying or at least damaging her.

Big media’s  big mistake is that their are at least a dozen potential candidates for President in 2012 that are equally impressive as Sarah Palin.

If President Obama continues down his road to serfdom, he and Hillary Clinton will face a decisive defeat at the polls approaching if not exceeding President Ronald Reagan’s defeat of Jimmy Carter in 1980.

How sweat it is!

A twoffer.

“…The data for the forecast section of these charts is taken directly from Obama’s FY 2011 Budget. The forecasts presented in this budget rely, as all forecasts ultimately do, on several critical assumptions. Together, these are among the most heroic and daring assumptions I have ever seen coming from the Office of Management and Budget. They are so off the charts that I don’t think they will ever see the light of day. And that would be a good thing, because otherwise we will be facing a very unpleasant economic future.

To begin with, economic growth is expected to average about 4% per year over the next 5 years. That is quite a bit higher than the “new normal” consensus, which sees growth averaging about 2.5-3% per year. I don’t really have a problem with that, since I think the “new normal” consensus is too pessimistic. But regardless of how optimistic 4% sounds, the growth projections the administration is using imply that it would take 10 years or more for the economy to return to its potential, or full employment growth. That would amount to a decade of very frustrated voters.

Next, we have the assumption that, thanks to 4% growth and higher tax rates, there will be a surge in tax receipts stronger than we have ever seen before in post-war history. Amazingly, the administration is making little or no allowance for the likelihood that rising tax rates (e.g., the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, the imposition of big taxes on Cadillac health insurance policies, the limitation of deductions on high-income earners) and rising tax burdens might a) retard economic growth and/or b) result in lower-than-expected revenues (e.g., due to increased evasion). In other words, if the Laffer Curve asserts itself and/or the economy performs according to the “new normal” consensus, we would likely discover that tax receipts are significantly lower than the administration is projecting. …”

Among liberal and progressive radical socialists the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt was and is now considered one of the top three greatest Presidents that ever lived in the same class as George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Read American historians, who also are mostly liberals and progressives and whose knowledge of economics is as limited or even more limited than President Roosevelt, they too believe in the greatness of FDR.

This legend is the biggest myth or more precisely lie ever told and endless repeated.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was simply the worse President the United States has ever had in terms of the impact his economic policies had on the American economy and American people.

If you doubt this, I strongly recommend you read all of the above books.

What is so disturbing and very dangerous is that one of Barack Obama Presidential role models is Franklin Roosevelt.

President Obama  has surrounded himself with economic and political advisors who are progressive radical socialists that actually believe that repeating FDR’s economic policies would be a good for the country.

Thus the massive bailouts, stimulus packages, massive budget deficits, huge increases in the national debt, proposed new tax increases including the Cap and Trade Energy Tax,  letting the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010, and the new health care bill forcing people to buy health insurance or pay a tax fine.

Barack Obama and Franklin D. Roosevelt have many characteristics in common.

Both were educated at Harvard and Columbia Universities.

Both were excellent readers of prepared speeches.

Both were habitual liars.

Both were great believers in class warfare on businesses and the rich with very high progressive  income tax rates while at the same time imposing  hidden very regressive excise taxes on low and middle income Americans.

Both were ignorant of economics. job and wealth creation

Both destroyed jobs and wrecked the U.S. economy.

Good intentions are not enough.

Results count.

President Obama is intentionally repeating the economic mistakes of President Roosevelt that will destroy both free market capitalism and democracy and lead to a totalitarian command and control socialist economy.

I hope President Obama fails early and often and is a one term President that in the process destroys the Democratic Party of progressive radical socialists.

With over 25,000,000 Americans seeking fully time employment, repeating the mistakes of Keynesian government interventist economic policies that have repeatedly failed in country after country will only prolong the duration of the  Obama Depression.

Republican and Democratic Presidents, in the past and present, Hoover and Roosevelt, and Bush and Obama, have failed the American people by implementing massive government intervention in the free market capitalist economy.

The CIA good ol’ boy security background investigation of Barack Obama resulted in alarms going off in the White House.

President Obama, the red diaper baby, got do do and wee wee upped and ordered Attorney General, Eric Holder, to go after CIA employees to send them a message–the Chicago Way.

Now the good ol’ boys are striking back by expanding the security background investigations by including Obama’s progressive radical socialist network both inside and outside the government.

Looks like more than 100 far left progressive radical socialists are on the list working in the White House, the Executive Office building and many Departments and agencies.

The FBI better get the lead out before they are embarrassed by leaks to selected commentors and see live and in living color revelations of subversive activites.

Reminds me of the Soviet spy network penetration of the Roosevelt and Truman administrations.

Time for a diaper change.

The GWOT is not for the faint of heart, nor the queasy. No war ever has been. There may be slight improprieties stashed in the CIA’s closets, but the liberal-appeasing GWCIA is foolhardy and dangerous. 

Mike Spann, was the first to die in the GWOT. He won’t have to worry about the Holder/Obama GWCIA. But others in the agency are very worried. While we sacrificed to achieve incremental victories, Holder and Obama plotted and schemed — not against those “evil-mongers” who killed our countrymen, but against those of us hunting the terrorists. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. The odor is not from Langley, Mr. Holder.”

Obama Could Face Trouble Over CIA Investigation

Some think Holder’s naming of a prosecutor will contaminate Obama’s larger agenda

Bush’s administration. Attorney General Eric Holder named a special prosecutor to look into the allegations, but that won’t be the end of it. Washington insiders of both parties predict that congressional Democrats will now feel emboldened to pursue their own investigations into what many Democrats consider torture, complete with hearings and angry recriminations. “You know that Congress will want to throw its oar into the water,” says a former adviser to a GOP president and that, in the end, many people will be appalled by the probes. “Americans will consider this an effort to embarrass or punish people who were trying to protect us from those who were trying to hurt us. This won’t come out well.” He and other analysts predict that the hard feelings over the “torture investigations” will contaminate the debate in other areas, including healthcare, and undermine Obama’s larger agenda.  …”

ABC News reports profanity-laced screaming matches between CIA director Leon Panetta and the White House (via HA Headlines). You might say he’s a bit wee-weed up:

A “profanity-laced screaming match” at the White House involving CIA Director Leon Panetta, and the expected release today of another damning internal investigation, has administration officials worrying about the direction of its newly-appoint intelligence team, current and former senior intelligence officials tell ABC News.com.

Amid reports that Panetta had threatened to quit just seven months after taking over at the spy agency, other insiders tell ABCNews.com that senior White House staff members are already discussing a possible shake-up of top national security officials.

“You can expect a larger than normal turnover in the next year,” a senior adviser to Obama on intelligence matters told ABCNews.com.

…According to intelligence officials, Panetta erupted in a tirade last month during a meeting with a senior White House staff member. Panetta was reportedly upset over plans by Attorney General Eric Holder to open a criminal investigation of allegations that CIA officers broke the law in carrying out certain interrogation techniques that President Obama has termed “torture.”

Central Intelligence Agency

“…The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) is a civilian intelligence agency of the United States government.

It is an independent U.S. Government agency responsible for providing national security Intelligence (information gathering) to senior U.S. policymakers.

It is the successor of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) formed, during World War II, to coordinate espionage activities between the branches of the US military services. The IC still has internal politics,[7] although an increasing number of interagency “centers”, as well as the Intellipedia information sharing mechanism, are hoped to improve cooperation between each member.

History of Soviet and Russian espionage in the United States

“…Since the late 1920s, the Soviet Union, through its OGPU and NKVD intelligence services, used Russians and foreign-born nationals as well as Communist and left-leaning Americans to perform espionage activities in the United States.[1][2][3] These various espionage networks eventually succeeded in penetrating various U.S. government agencies, transmitting classified or confidential information to Moscow, while influencing U.S. government officials to support policies favorable to the Soviet Union.[1][2][3] The Soviet Union’s greatest espionage achievement was in obtaining plans and specifications for the U.S. atomic bomb.[citation needed]

Some documents revealed that the CPUSA was actively involved in secretly recruiting party members from African-American groups and rural farm workers. Included were letters from two U.S. ambassadors in Europe to President Franklin D. Roosevelt and a senior State Department official. Thanks to an official in the State department sympathetic to the Party, the confidential correspondence, concerning political and economic matters in Europe, ended up in the hands of Soviet intelligence.[11]

In the late 1930s and 1940 the OGPU, known as the Political Directorate, used the U.S. as one of several staging areas for multiple OGPU plots to murder exiled Soviet leader Leon Trotsky, then living in Mexico City. It was American Communists who infiltrated Trotsky’s killer, Ramón Mercader, into his own household . They were also central to the NKVD’s unsuccessful efforts to free the killer from a Mexican prison.[citation needed]

White agreed to assist Soviet intelligence in any way he could. The principal function of White was to aid in the infiltration and placement of Soviet operatives within the government, and protecting sources.[citation needed] When security concerns arose around Nathan Gregory Silvermaster, White protected him in his sensitive position at the Board of Economic Warfare. White likewise was a purveyor of information and resources to assist Soviet aims, and agreed to press for release of German occupation currency plates to the Soviet Union. The Soviets later used the plates to print unrestricted sums of money to exchange for U.S. and Allied hard goods.[14]

In August 1945 Elizabeth Bentley, fearful of assassination by the Soviet KGB, turned herself in to the government.[citation needed] She implicated many agents and sources in the Golos and Silvermaster spy networks, and was the first to accuse Harry Dexter White of acting on behalf of Soviet interests in releasing occupation plates to Moscow, later confirmed by Soviet archives and former KGB officers.[5][14]

Replacing American individual or consumer consumer sovereignty with collective or government sovereignty is the default position  of the progressive radical socialist Democratic Party  under Obama.

President Obama apparently respects Iranian sovereignty more than he does the sovereignty of the American consumer.

President Obama’s refusal  to encourage the Iranian freedom and democracy movement reminds me of FDR’s State Department refusal to assist European jews fleeing the oppression of the National Socialist under Hitler.

“…Newsmax has learned that the Obama administration also has zeroed out funding for pro-democracy programs inside Iran from the State Department budget for fiscal 2010, just as protests in Iran are ramping up.

Funding for pro-democracy programs began in 2004, when Congress earmarked $1.5 million of the State Department budget for “educational, humanitarian, and non-governmental organizations and individuals inside Iran to support the advancement of democracy and human rights in Iran.”

The funding ramped up dramatically two years later, when Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice requested $75 million for pro-democracy programs. More than half of the $66.1 million Congress finally appropriated went to expand U.S. government-funded Persian language broadcasting services at Voice of America and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

But no money has been earmarked for such programs in the administration’s fiscal 2010 foreign operations budget request. Congressional sources told Newsmax they doubted that a Democrat-controlled Congress would add it when the budget comes before a committee next week.

Controversy has surrounded the programs from the start, with pro-regime lobbying groups, such as the National Iranian-American Council urging the State Department to cancel the funding.

And although Bush administration officials told pro-democracy activists they wanted to fund projects inside Iran (as called for in the original legislative language), State Department desk officers intervened to block funding for any projects other than cultural exchanges and “think tanks and studies,” insiders told Newsmax.

One key opponent of the funding, who weighed in at meetings to block specific grant requests aimed at helping pro-democracy groups inside Iran, was Suzanne Maloney, who is now at the Brookings Institution.

Speaking at a Washington forum that the National Iranian-American Council sponsored Wednesday, Maloney applauded President Obama’s do-nothing policy. “The best thing we can do for Iranian democracy is sit back and let Iranians fight it out for themselves,” she said, echoing the president’s own words from a brief press statement the day before.

Program supporters say the efforts of people such as Maloney inside the State Department to blunt the original intent have made the funding virtually meaningless.

“The State Department never did a lot with all the funding we gave them, so I’m not sure that zeroing it out is a huge loss,” an aide to a key congressional supporter of the funding told Newsmax.  …”

More powerful than the president of Iran, the Leader appoints the heads of many powerful posts – the commanders of the armed forces, the director of the national radio and television network, the heads of the major religious foundations, the prayer leaders in city mosques, and the members of national security councils dealing with defence and foreign affairs. He also appoints the chief judge, the chief prosecutor, special tribunals and, with the help of the chief judge, the 12 jurists of the Guardian Council – the powerful body that decides both what bills may become law and who may run for president or parliament.[4]

Iran has had two Supreme Leaders; currently the post is occupied by Ali Khamenei.

The Supreme Leader is elected by the Assembly of Experts, which is also in charge of overseeing the Supreme Leader, and also has the power to dismiss him. As the name indicates, the Supreme Leader is considered as the ultimate head of the Iranian political and governmental establishment, above that of Iran’s president. According to the constitution, he has the last say in internal and foreign policies, control of all of the armed forces (Army, Revolutionary Guards, Police), and control of state broadcast and others (see below). The head of the Judicial branch (in Persian: قوه قضائیه) is also directly appointed by him.

The President of Iran, who is elected by universal suffrage, is the Executive President (Head of government). In 1989, the Prime Minister’s office was merged with the President’s office to form the current post of President of Iran. However, certain executive powers, such as command of the armed forces and declaration of war and peace, remain in the hands of the Supreme Leader.[5] Furthermore the Supreme Leader may even dismiss the president and prevent the legitimation of any law (appointed by assembly) by the institutions under his control, the Guardian Council and the Expediency Council. …”

 

 

Marja

“….Marja (Arabic/Persian: مرجع), also appearing as Marja Taqlid or Marja Dini (Arabic/Persian: مرجع تقليد / مرجع ديني), literally means “Source to Imitate/Follow” or “Religious Reference”. It is the label provided to Shia authority, a Grand Ayatollah with the authority to make legal decisions within the confines of Islamic law for followers and less-credentialed clerics. After the Qur’an and the Prophets and Imams, marjas are the highest authority on religious laws in Usuli Twelver Shia Islam.

Currently, marjas are accorded the title Grand Ayatollah (Arabic/Persian: آية ‌الله العظمی Ayatollah al-Uzma), however when referring to one, the use of Ayatollah is acceptable. Previously, the titles of Allamah[1] and Imam[2] have also been used.

The marja’yiat of an Ayatollah transpires when he becomes a celebrated figure in the hawza and his students and followers trust him in answering their questions, and ask him to publish his juristic book, the resalah amaliyah – a manual of practical rulings arranged according to topics dealing with ritual purity, worship, social issues, business, and political affairs. The resalah contains an ayatollah’s fatwas on different topics, according to his knowledge of the most authentic Islamic sources and their application to current life. Traditionally only the most renowned Ayatollahs of the given time published a resalah, while today many Ayatollahs of various illustriousness have published one, while some of the renowned ones have refused to do so.

Where a difference in opinion exists between the marjas, each of them provide their own opinion and the Muqallid will follow his/her own marja’s opinion on that subject. [3] A mujtahid, i.e. someone who has completed advanced training (dars kharij) in the hawza and has acquired the license to engage in ijtihad (ejazaye ijtihad) from one or several ayatollahs, is exempted from the requirement to follow a marja. One should note, however, that ijtihad is not always comprehensive and so a mujtahid may be an expert in one particular area of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and exercise ijtihad therein, but follow a marja in other areas of fiqh.

Several senior Grand Ayatollahs constitute the hawza, a religious institution. The hawza of Qom and Najaf are preeminent seminary centers for the training of Shia clergymen. However, there are other smaller hawzas in other cities around the world, such as Karbala in Iraq and Mashhad, and Isfahan in Iran. …”

Consumer sovereignty is a term which is used in economics to refer to the rule or sovereignty of purchasers in markets as to production of goods. It is the power of consumers to decide what gets produced. People use the this term to describe the consumer as the “king,” or ruler, of the market, the one who determines what products will be produced. [1] Also, this term denotes the way in which a consumer ideologically choices to buy a good or service. Furthermore,the term can be used as either a norm (as to what consumers should be permitted) or a description (as to what consumers are permitted).

In unrestricted markets, those with income or wealth are able to use their purchasing power to motivate producers as what to produce (and how much). Customers do not necessarily have to buy and, if dissatisfied, can take their business elsewhere, while the profit-seeking sellers find that they can make the greatest profit by trying to provide the best possible products for the price (or the lowest possible price for a given product). In the language of cliché, “The one with the gold makes the rules.”

To most neoclassical economists, complete consumer sovereignty is an ideal rather than a reality because of the existence — or even the ubiquity — of market failure. Some economists of the Chicago school and the Austrian school see consumer sovereignty as a reality in a free market economy without interference from government or other non-market institutions, or anti-market institutions such as monopolies or cartels. That is, alleged market failures are seen as being a result of non-market forces. However, it has also been argued (e.g., by Goutam U. Jois) that even a “pure” market system violates the consumer sovereignty norm.

The American people are far less patient today.

If President Obama does not turn  the economy around by July 2009, his chances of getting reelected President will diminish with every month unemployment is above 8%.

OECD to Contract 4.3%, Says Rates Should Fall Further

“…The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development forecast the steepest contraction in more than 50 years across its member nations and said central banks should use additional monetary tools to spur a recovery.

The combined economy of the world’s most-industrialized countries, will shrink 4.3 percent this year and 0.1 percent next, the Paris-based group said today in its latest projections. That compares with the 0.3 percent contraction forecast in November. All 30 OECD economies will be in a recession by the end of this year, something the group said was “unprecedented.”

“We are in the midst of the steepest, most synchronized recession in our life time, certainly since the 1930s,” OECD Chief Economist Klaus Schmidt-Hebbel said at a press conference in Paris to present the report.

Separately, World Bank President Robert Zoellick today said the global economy will likely shrink 1.7 percent, reversing growth of 1.9 percent in 2008. The OECD is also more negative than the International Monetary Fund, which forecasts advanced economies will contract between 3 percent and 3.5 percent this year. A recovery may take hold next year, the OECD said. …”

 The Conference Board Leading Economic Index™ (LEI) for the U.S. decreased 0.4 percent, The Conference Board Coincident Economic Index™ (CEI) decreased 0.4 percent and The Conference Board Lagging Economic Index™ (LAG) decreased 0.4 percent in February.

The monthly increase for December was revised to a small decline, while January’s monthly increase was revised lower, due mainly to data revisions in manufacturers’ new orders and real money supply. Between August 2008 and February 2009, the index fell 2.1 percent (a -4.1 percent annual rate), faster than the decline of 1.6 percent (a -3.1 percent annual rate) for the previous six months. In addition, the weaknesses among the leading indicators have remained widespread in recent months.
The Conference Board CEI for the U.S. fell again in February, driven by continued declines in employment and industrial production. Between August 2008 and February 2009, this index of current economic activity dropped 3.1 percent (a -6.1 percent annual rate), a much larger fall than the decrease of 0.9 percent (a -1.9 percent annual rate) for the previous six months, and the weaknesses among its components have remained widespread in recent months. The Conference Board LAG for the U.S. declined by the same amount as the coincident economic index this month, and as a result, the coincident to lagging ratio was unchanged. Meanwhile, real GDP fell at a 6.2 percent annual rate in the fourth quarter of 2008 (following a decline of 0.5 percent annual rate in the third quarter), the largest quarterly contraction since 1982.
Amid widespread deterioration among its components, The Conference Board LEI for the U.S. continued the general downward trend that began in July 2007. But, its rate of decline has moderated slightly in recent months. Meanwhile, The Conference Board CEI for the U.S. remains on a downtrend that began in November 2007, with the decline in the index having accelerated in recent months. The six-month decline in the CEI is the largest since 1975. Taken together, the behavior of the composite economic indexes suggests that the economic recession that began in December 2007 will continue in the near term. …”

Index of consumer sentiment falls to an all-time low in February and signals more deterioration ahead.

“…A key measure of consumer sentiment fell more than expected in February, to the lowest level since its 1967 inception, as Americans remained wary of spending amid the weak economy and rising unemployment.

The Conference Board, a New York-based business research group, said its Consumer Confidence Index fell to 25 in February from a revised reading of 37.4 in January. The index has been touching historic lows since September.

Economists were expecting a reading of 35, according to a survey by Briefing.com.

The index’s measure of future expectations about consumer sentiment declined to 27.5 in February from a reading of 42.5 the month before.

“All in all, not only do consumers feel overall economic conditions have grown more dire, but just as disconcerting, they anticipate no improvement in conditions over the next six months,” said Lynn Franco, director of the Conference Board Consumer Research Center, in a written statement.

The index, which is based on a survey of 5,000 U.S. households, revealed a bleak outlook for the months ahead. …”

Obama’s Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth

“…It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama’s high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama’s net presidential approval rating — which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve — is just six, his lowest rating to date.

Polling data show that Mr. Obama’s approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001.

M.E. CohenOverall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president’s performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration. Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

A detailed examination of presidential popularity after 50 days on the job similarly demonstrates a substantial drop in presidential approval relative to other elected presidents in the 20th and 21st centuries. The reason for this decline most likely has to do with doubts about the administration’s policies and their impact on peoples’ lives.

There is also a clear sense in the polling that taxes will increase for all Americans because of the stimulus, notwithstanding what the president has said about taxes going down for 95% of Americans. Close to three-quarters expect that government spending will grow under this administration.

Recent Gallup data echo these concerns. That polling shows that there are deep-seeded, underlying economic concerns. Eighty-three percent say they are worried that the steps Mr. Obama is taking to fix the economy may not work and the economy will get worse. Eighty-two percent say they are worried about the amount of money being added to the deficit. Seventy-eight percent are worried about inflation growing, and 69% say they are worried about the increasing role of the government in the U.S. economy. …”

Although most people think the new president is doing as much as he can to fix the economy and relatively few say Obama’s policies have made the economy worse, the public expresses mixed views of his many major proposals to fix the economy. There continues to be broad support for increased spending on infrastructure, and most have positive views of key aspects of his budget plan – reducing taxes on middle and lower-income households and raising taxes on the affluent. …”

“…Nonetheless, a sizable minority (39%) says that Obama has proposed spending too much money to address the economic situation; 34% say Obama is spending the right amount, while 13% say Obama has proposed spending too little to address the crisis. Seven-in-ten Republicans (70%) say Obama’s proposals are too costly, compared with 40% of independents and just 17% of Democrats.

In this regard, 37% of Americans say that the growing budget deficit makes them angry, while another 46% say it is something that bothers them but does not make them angry. Comparable percentages say they are angered by bailing out homeowners who took out mortgages they could not afford (39%) and government money being spent on special interest projects (34%). The bailout of banks and financial institutions that made poor decisions engenders more negative reactions – 48% say this is something that makes them angry. …”

The New Deal

“…The New Deal was the name that United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave to a sequence of central economic planning and economic stimulus programs he initiated between 1933 and 1938 with the goal of giving aid to the unemployed, reform of business and financial practices, and recovery of the economy during The Great Depression. The enactment of New Deal policies lasted from 1933 through 1939.[1][2]

When Franklin D. Roosevelt took office, the nation was deeply troubled. No one could receive a bank loan. The unemployment rate was 25% and higher in major industrial and mining centers. The agricultural sector was possibly in worse shape than the industrial sector. Farmers were having difficulties selling their products and a part of the country known as the dust bowl was experiencing a long lasting drought. Mortgages were being foreclosed by tens of thousands. [3] Unemployment was still high in 1939, with the tide only turning in 1941.[4]

The “First New Deal” of 1933 was aimed at short-term relief programs for all groups. The Roosevelt administration promoted or implemented banking reform laws, work relief programs, agricultural programs, and industrial reform (the National Recovery Administration, NRA), and the end of the gold standard and Prohibition.

A “Second New Deal” (1935–1938) included labor union support, the Works Progress Administration (WPA) relief program, the Social Security Act, and programs to aid the agricultural sector, including tenant farmers and migrant workers. The Supreme Court ruled several programs unconstitutional; however, most were soon replaced, with the exception of the NRA. The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 was the last major program launched, which set maximum hours and minimum wages for most categories of workers.[5]

Most of the relief programs were shut down during World War II by the Conservative Coalition (i.e., the opponents of the New Deal in Congress). Many regulations were ended during the wave of deregulation in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Several New Deal programs remain active, with some still operating under the original names, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC), the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The largest programs still in existence today are the Social Security System, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and Fannie Mae. …”

“…Amity Shlaes (born 1960) is an American author and columnist from New York, who writes about politics and economics.

“…Shlaes graduated from Jonathan Edwards College, Yale University magna cum laude[1] with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1982.[2]

Shlaes writes a syndicated column for Bloomberg News.[3] She is a senior fellow in economic history at the Council on Foreign Relations. Her many appearances on television and radio include commentary on public radio for Marketplace.

She wrote columns for the Financial Times for five years, for which she won the International Policy Network’s Bastiat Prize for Journalism in 2002.[1] Earlier, she worked at the Wall Street Journal, where she was a member of the editorial board. She has written for The New Yorker, The American Spectator, Commentary Magazine, Foreign Affairs, National Review, and The New Republic, among others. Her obituary of Milton Friedman appeared[2] in The New York Sun.

She was awarded the 2007 Deadline Club award for Opinion writing.[3], and the Newswomen’s Club of New York’s Front Page Award for her Bloomberg columns.[4]

Her first book was Germany: The Empire Within (ISBN 0-224-02700-X), about Germany at the time of reunification. She followed it with The Greedy Hand: How Taxes Drive Americans Crazy and What to Do About It (ISBN 0-375-50132-0). Her most recent national best-seller is The Forgotten Man: A New History of The Great Depression (ISBN 0-0609-3642-8) devoted to the study of the Great Depression in the United States and the New Deal. This book advances a thesis that both Presidents Herbert Hoover and Franklin Delano Roosevelt promoted economic policies that were counterproductive and prolonged The Great Depression, in part because of the uncertainty created by inconsistent policymaking.[4] …”

The Democratic Great Communicator Isn’t Always: As good as he is delivering a speech, Obama is not a good extemporaneous speaker. It’s been rare in his political career you get to see him doing both back to back and the contrast is stunning. The conference was, frankly, boring and long-winded. His answer to the first question was an unforgivably meandering and pointless 10 minutes.

Names Please: The President kept referencing people that believe in “doing nothing” as a response to the economic crisis. And this “tax cuts alone can’t solve our economic problems” business is nonsense. Congressional Republicans are far from closed to the idea of government spending as a fiscal stimulus — it’s the size and scope of the current bill they disagree with. Framing things as if the debate is doing something versus doing nothing is calculated political prestidigitation.

Triumph of the Will

Triumph of the Will (German: Triumph des Willens) is a propaganda film made by Leni Riefenstahl. It chronicles the 1934 Nazi Party Congress in Nuremberg. The film contains excerpts from speeches given by various Nazi leaders at the Congress, including portions of speeches by Adolf Hitler, interspersed with footage of massed party members. Hitler commissioned the film and served as an unofficial executive producer; his name appears in the opening titles. The overriding theme of the film is the return of Germany as a great power, with Hitler as the True German Leader who will bring glory to the nation.

Triumph of the Will was released in 1935 and rapidly became one of the better-known examples of propaganda in film history. Riefenstahl’s techniques, such as moving cameras, the use of telephoto lenses to create a distorted perspective, aerial photography, and revolutionary approach to the use of music and cinematography, have earned Triumph recognition as one of the greatest films in history. Riefenstahl won several awards, not only in Germany but also in the United States, France, Sweden, and other countries. The film was popular in the Third Reich[1] and elsewhere, and has continued to influence movies, documentaries, and commercials to this day.[2] …”

 

“…The film begins with a prologue, the only commentary in the film. The following text appears against a gray background: On 5 September 1934, …20 years after the outbreak of the World War… 16 years after the beginning of our suffering… 19 months after the beginning of the German renaissance… Adolf Hitler flew again to Nuremberg to review the columns of his faithful followers…

Day 1‘: The film opens with shots of the clouds above the city, and then moves through the clouds to float above the assembling masses below, with the intention of portraying beauty and majesty of the scene. The shadow of Hitler’s plane is visible as it passes over the tiny figures marching below,[3] accompanied by music from Richard Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, which slowly turns into the Horst-Wessel-Lied. Upon arriving at the Nuremberg airport, Hitler emerges from his plane to thunderous applause and a cheering crowd. He is then driven into Nuremberg, through equally enthusiastic people, to his hotel where a night rally is later held.

Day 2‘: The second day begins with a montage of the attendees getting ready for the opening of the Reich Party Congress, and then footage of the top Nazi officials arriving at the Luitpold Arena. The film then cuts to the opening ceremony, where Rudolf Hess announces the start of the Congress. The camera then introduces much of the Nazi hierarchy and covers their opening speeches, including Joseph Goebbels, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Fritz Todt, Robert Ley, and Julius Streicher. Then the film cuts to an outdoor rally for the Reichsarbeitsdienst (Labor Service), which is primarily a series of pseudo-military drills by men carrying shovels. This is also where Hitler gives his first speech on the merits of the Labor Service and praising them for their work in rebuilding Germany. The day then ends with a torchlight SA parade.

Day 3‘: The third day starts with a Hitler Youth rally on the parade ground. Again the camera covers the Nazi dignitaries arriving and the introduction of Hitler by Baldur von Schirach. Hitler then addresses the Youth, describing in militaristic terms how they must harden themselves and prepare for sacrifice. Everyone present then assembles for a military pass and review, featuring Wehrmacht cavalry and various armored vehicles. That night Hitler delivers another speech to low-ranking party officials by torchlight, commemorating the first year since the Nazis took power and declaring that the party and state are one entity.

Day 4‘: The fourth day is the climax of the film, where the most memorable of the imagery is presented. As the soundtrack plays themes from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, Hitler, flanked by Heinrich Himmler and Viktor Lutze, walks through a long wide expanse with over 150,000 SA and SS troops standing at attention, to lay a wreath at a World War I Memorial. Hitler then reviews the parading SA and SS men, following which Hitler and Lutze deliver a speech where they discuss the Night of the Long Knives purge of the SA several months prior. Lutze reaffirms the SA’s loyalty to the regime, and Hitler absolves the SA of any crimes committed by Ernst Röhm. New party flags are consecrated by touching them to the “blood banner” (the same cloth flag said to have been carried by the fallen Nazis during the Beer Hall Putsch) and, following a final parade in front of the Nuremberg Frauenkirche, Hitler delivers his closing speech. In it he reaffirms the primacy of the Nazi Party in Germany, declaring, “All loyal Germans will become National Socialists. Only the best National Socialists are party comrades!” Hess then leads the assembled crowd in a final Sieg Heil salute for Hitler, marking the close of the party congress. The film fades to black as the entire crowd sings the “Horst-Wessel-Lied”. …”

President Obama also misleads the American people as to what happened in Japan in the 1990 and the United States in 1930 when Keynesian economics and massive government spending was tried and only prolonged the recession/depression for many years.

One of the worst recession in US economic history was faced by a new President Warren G. Harding in 1921.

President Harding cut Federal government spending by about 40% and taxes were reduced.

The worse recesssion was also one of the shortest and resulted in an economic boom in the 1920s.

Wage Adjustment and Aggregate Supply  in the Depression of 1920-1921:  Extending the Bernanke-Carey Model

 “… In one crucial respect, the depression of 1920-21 was actually more severe than the Great Depression itself: there was a rapid decline in the price level of between forty and fifty percent within the course of a single year.  As Friedman and Schwartz (1963) explain, “From their peak in May [1920], wholesale prices declined moderately for a couple of months, and then collapsed.  By June 1921, they had fallen to 56 per cent of their level in May 1920.  More than three-quarters of the decline took place in the six months from August 1920 to February 1921.  This is, by all odds, the sharpest price decline covered by our money series, either before or since that date and perhaps also in the whole history of the United States.” (1963, pp.232-233.)  The wholesale price index during the Great Depression took about three years to fall by the same amount. 

      Employment and output were however not as severely affected as in the Great Depression.  Of course precise unemployment data are not available for this period, but one representative estimate (Lebergott, 1957) puts civilian unemployment at 2.3% in 1919, 11.9% in 1921, and back to 3.2% in 1923.  Output figures tell a similar story: one aggregate index (Mills, 1932) indexes production at 125.3 in 1919, 99.7 in 1921, and rebounding to 145.3 in 1923.  As these stylized facts indicate, the second unusual feature of the depression of 1920-21 was the rapid recovery in employment and output, in sync with a swift adjustment of the real wage to its new equilibrium position. …”

History speaks, who will listen?

“…So what to do? President Warren Harding first ignored his commerce secretary, Herbert Hoover, who wanted, naturally, to increase government further. Then he slashed federal spending – imagine! – cut taxes, paid down debt and, voila, the economy roared. Unshackled businesses reinvested. Factories rumbled back to life. Unemployment fell to 1.8 percent.

Hoover and then FDR tried a tack in precisely the opposite direction when the economy later slipped again, and the result was the Depression, exacerbated by the New Deal and ended by a wartime production boom.

What Harding understood that FDR and Hoover did not is that recessions, however painful, are necessary evils in a free-market economy, and not so evil at all when compared to totalitarian alternatives. The recession of 1920 to 1921, as historian Paul Johnson explained, “sorted out the sheep from the goats, liquidated the unhealthy elements in the economy and turned out the parasites … business downturns serve essential purposes. But they need not be long because they are self adjusting.”  …”

Harding and Historical Deconstruction

“…Harding inherited from the comatose Wilson regime one of the sharpest recessions in American history. By July 1921 it was all over and the economy was booming again. Harding and Mellon had done nothing except cut government expenditure by a huge 40 percent from Wilson’s peacetime level, the last time a major industrial power treated a recession by classic laissez-faire methods, allowing wages to fall to their natural level. Benjamin Anderson of Chase Manhattan was later to call it ‘our last natural recovery to full employment.’  The cuts were not ill-considered but part of a careful plan to bring the spending of the monster state which had emerged under Wilson back under control. The Budget and Accounting Act (1921) created a Bureau of the Budget, to subject authorizations to systematic central scrutiny and control. Its first director, Charles Dawes, said in 1922 that, before Harding, ‘everyone did as they damn well pleased,’ Cabinet members were ‘comanchees,’ Congress ‘a nest of cowards.’  Then Harding ‘waved the axe and said that anybody who didn’t cooperate his head would come off.’ The result was ‘velvet for the taxpayer.’

Well President Obama how many Federal Government employees are being let go–any?

Start with your 1700 plus White House staff.

As I recall President Obama said that he was going to go over the budget line by line.

If President Obama and his staff cannot reduce Federal Government spending by at least 5% , they  are not really trying.

President Harding and not Presidents Hoover and Roosevelt should be the role model President Obama emulates. 

As an economist, I agree with President Obama that the American economy does need a stimulus package.

I know of no economist that advocates doing nothing, although it would be a better alternative course of action then massive government spending  and massive increases in the money supply–an economic catastrophe in the making bythe Obama Administration and the Federal Reserve.

However, instead of the Federal Government deciding what to spend taxpayer money on,  here is one economic plan that will at least let the American people make the spending and saving decision:

Why I fear the west’s luck has run out

“…Plenty of observers, including me, have criticised the media for being too gloomy. I am now beginning to believe that they have not been gloomy enough, if they want to reflect the true consequences of our profligacy and past conceit.

After all, who wants to face up to the bleak reality that confronts us? The experts say we will not suffer a repeat of the 1930s slump. Indeed, we have to contend with fresh issues. Like the fact that there are 1.5bn recent additions to the capitalist workforce in China and India – hard-working, increasingly well-educated people, all keen to better themselves. Meanwhile, modern logistics and communications mean trade and production can take place almost anywhere if it makes economic sense.

So why should industrious Asians earn a tiny fraction of what citizens in the west earn? Especially when they have so much of the cash and productive resources, while we have deficits, high costs and poor demographics.

Prepare for a wrenching, unstoppable redistribution of wealth – and I am not talking about domestic taxes. For too long it has been more profitable in the west to finance consumption rather than production. That cannot continue. I am afraid that the west’s credibility – and luck – has run out.

This vast reordering of our economic system has only just begun. We shall have to cancel all the self-indulgence of endless welfare spending and cultivate rather more of a work ethic and a sense of self-sufficiency. Expectations must be modified and attitudes altered profoundly. Expect years of negligible growth, permanent high unemployment, declining property prices, higher taxes, crumbling currencies and falling living standards.

We shall look back on the last decade and think: we never realised what we had until it was gone.”

1921 Recession

“The 1921 recession was an extremely sharp deflationary recession following World War I. It lasted until 1923. The extent of the deflation was not only large, but large relative to the accompanying decline in real product.

The National Bureau of Economic Research dates the 1921 recession from a general business peak in January 1920 to a trough in July 1921. The recession in the United States was brief relative to the Great Depression later that decade, but it included a very sharp price deflation. The decline in the GNP price deflator from 1920 to 1921 is the largest one-year percentage decline in the series in the more than 120 years covered.

Various estimates show that one-year deflation figures were 18 percent, 13.0 percent, and 14.8 percent, respectively. The closest comparator is the 11.5 percent deflation recorded for 1931-32, the third year of the Great Depression. Wholesale prices declined by 36.8 percent for 1920-21, the largest one-year decline on record, going back at least to the American Revolutionary War period. The 1921 deflation contains another striking feature. Not only was it sharp, it was large relative to the accompanying decline in real product. The ratio of the percentage decline in the GNP deflator for 1920-21 to the percentage decline in real GNP is 2.6 using the Department of Commerce figures. By contrast, during 1929-30, the first year of the Great Depression, the GNP deflator declined by 2.7 percent and real GNP by 9.4 percent, for a ratio of 0.3. The ratios of the percentage decline in GNP prices to the percentage decline in real GNP for 1930-31, 1931-32, 1932-33, and 1937-38, the other Great Depression years in which real GNP declined, were 1.0, 0.9, 1.2, and 0.3, respectively, all well below the 1920-21 figures.

Deflation was so sharp, both in itself and in relation to the decline in real product, because the deflation was produced by a sharp decline in aggregate demand combined with an increase in aggregate supply, a supply increase in which deflationary expectations played a prominent role.

As usual, a buoyant expansion followed the severe contraction of 1920-1921. In the 22 months after the depression bottom, industrial production rose 63%, the money stock expanded by 14%, and wholesale prices rose by 9%. Net national product rose 23% in the corresponding two calendar years. …”

Keynesian Economics

“In economics Keynesianism (pronounced /ˈkeɪnziən/, also Keynesian economics and Keynesian Theory), is based on the ideas of twentieth-century British economist John Maynard Keynes. According to Keynesian economics the state should stimulate economic growth and improve stability in the private sector — through, for example, adjusting interest rates and taxation and funding public projects.

The theories forming the basis of Keynesian economics were first presented in The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, published in 1936.

In Keynes’s theory, some micro-level actions of individuals and firms can lead to aggregate macroeconomic outcomes in which the economy operates below its potential output and growth. Many classical economists had believed in Say’s Law, that supply creates its own demand, so that a “general glut” would therefore be impossible. Keynes contended that aggregate demand for goods might be insufficient during economic downturns, leading to unnecessarily high unemployment and losses of potential output. Keynes argued that government policies could be used to increase aggregate demand, thus increasing economic activity and reducing high unemployment and deflation.

Keynes argued that the solution to depression was to stimulate the economy (“inducement to invest”) through some combination of two approaches :

  • a reduction in interest rates.
  • Government investment in infrastructure – the injection of income results in more spending in the general economy, which in turn stimulates more production and investment involving still more income and spending and so forth. The initial stimulation starts a cascade of events, whose total increase in economic activity is a multiple of the original investment.[1]

A central conclusion of Keynesian economics is that in some situations, no strong automatic mechanism moves output and employment towards full employment levels. This conclusion conflicts with economic approaches that assume a general tendency towards an equilibrium. In the ‘neoclassical synthesis’, which combines Keynesian macro concepts with a micro foundation, the conditions of General equilibrium allow for price adjustment to achieve this goal.

The New classical macroeconomics movement, which began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, criticized Keynesian theories, while New Keynesian economics have sought to base Keynes’s idea on more rigorous theoretical foundations.

Obama Hid His Father’s Socialism From Readers

“…There’s a big mystery at the heart of Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father:  A Story of Race and Inheritance.  What was Barack Obama doing seeking out Marxist professors in college?  Why did Obama choose a Communist Party USA member as his socio- political counselor in high school?  Why was he spending his time studying neocolonialism and the writings of Frantz Fanon, the pro-violence author of “the Communist Manifesto of neocolonialsm”, in college?  Why did he take time out from his studies at Columbia to attend socialist conferences at Cooper Union?

And there is more mystery in the book.  Why does Obama consider working in a consulting house for international business like being “a spy behind enemy lines?”  Why does he repeatedly find it so hard to explain his political views to others?  Why was he driven to become a left-aligned political organizer?  It’s a question Obama again and again can’t seem to answer to the satisfaction of the interlocutors in his own memoir.

If there is a mystery at the heart of Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father, one thing is not left a mystery, the fact that Barack Obama organized his life on the ideals given to him by his Kenyan father.  Obama tells us, “All of my life, I carried a single image of my father, one that I .. tried to take as my own.” (p. 220)   And what was that image?  It was “the father of my dreams, the man in my mother’s stories, full of high-blown ideals ..” (p. 278)  What is more, Obama tells us that, “It was into my father’s image .. that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself.”  And also that, “I did feel that there was something to prove .. to my father” in his efforts at political organizing. (p. 230) …”

President Obama and His Keynesian Spending Cult of The Fascist Democrat Radicals–FDRs

President Obama’s ignorance of economics and business history is stunning and is only matched by his arrogance in recommending a stimulus package and bailouts that will not work and will within two years lead to inflation rates from 25%-50%. 

President Obama is destined to be a repeat of the Carter years, only much worse.

Any Democrat or Republican that votes for the stimulus package and future bailouts of banks, businesses, and states will rue the day that they failed to listen to those warning them that you do not know what you are doing–wrecking the US economy and destroying  jobs.

If that is the real agenda of the FDRs  they may succeed for a while.

The American people will remember in 2010 and 2012 and will vote out of office all those Democrats and Republicans that voted for this so-called stimulus package and future bailout bills.

The unemployment rate will hit 10% by July 2009.
