John McCain Names Sarah Palin As His Running Mate

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDNmPcVHao0

Sarah Heath Palin (née Sarah Louise Heath, born February 11, 1964 in Sandpoint, Idaho) is the current Governor of Alaska. She is the youngest governor in Alaskan history (42 years old upon taking office), as well as the first woman to hold the office in the state. In addition to being Alaska’s first female governor, and its youngest, Palin is also the first who was born after Alaska achieved statehood. She is also the first Alaska governor not to be inaugurated in Juneau, instead choosing to hold her inauguration ceremony in Fairbanks. She took office on December 4, 2006. Her Lieutenant Governor is Sean Parnell. Palin is the former mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. As Governor, she has maintained uncommonly high approval ratings throughout her tenure. …”

Congratulations to Senator McCain for an outstanding selection of Governor Palin as your Vice-Presidential running mate.

The movement conservatives will now vote and support the Republican Party 2008 Presidential ticket.

Hit back to back grand slam homeruns my naming part of your future leadership team and uniting the party.

Suggest you announce at the convention that you will appoint former Governor Mitt Romney as your Treasury Secretary, former Governor Huckabee as Secretary of Education, Congressman Ducan Hunter as Secretary of Homeland Security and Congressman Ron Paul as your Director of Management and Budget.

Such an announcement would completely unite the Republican Party behind your candidacy.

Conservatives and libertarians salute you and Governor Palin.

Congratulations again and Happy Birthday.

Grand slam (baseball)

“In the sport of baseball, a grand slam (or just slam for short) is a home run hit with all the bases occupied by baserunners, thereby scoring 4 runs – the most possible on a single play. According to The Dickson Baseball Dictionary, the term originated in the card game of contract bridge, in which a “grand slam” involves taking all the possible tricks. The word “slam”, by itself, is usually connected with a loud sound, particularly of a door being closed with excess force; thus, “slamming the door” on one’s opponent(s). The term was extended to various sports, such as golf and tennis, for winning all the major tournaments. It is even used in restaurants, for example a “grand slam breakfast” consisting of samplings of all the most common dishes. Word-playing sportscasters have also coined the popular (and etymologically unrelated) variation, “grand salami”.

Lou Gehrig hit 23 career grand slam home runs, the most by any player in Major League Baseball history. Don Mattingly set the single-season record with 6 grand slams in 1987 – remarkably, the only 6 of his entire 14-year career; Travis Hafner tied the single-season record in 2006. Roger Connor is believed to have been the first major league player to hit a grand slam, on September 10, 1881 for the Troy Trojans, although Charlie Gould hit one for the Boston Red Stockings in the National Association on September 5, 1871[1] (the National Association is not recognized by Major League Baseball as a major league). …”

What Palin does for McCain, and to Obama

“…First, though, let’s assess the risk.  Palin has served less than two years as Governor of Alaska, which tends to eat into the experience message on which McCain has relied thus far.  At 44, she’s younger than Barack Obama by three years.  She has served as a mayor and as the Ethics Commissioner on the state board regulating oil and natural gas, for a total of eight years political experience before her election as governor.  That’s also less than Obama has, with seven years in the Illinois legislature and three in the US Senate.

However, the nature of the experience couldn’t be more different.  Palin spent her entire political career crusading against the political machine that rules Alaska — which exists in her own Republican party.  She blew the whistle on the state GOP chair, who had abused his power on the same commission to conduct party business.  Obama, in contrast, talked a great deal about reform in Chicago but never challenged the party machine, preferring to take an easy ride as a protegé of Richard Daley instead.

Palin has no formal foreign-policy experience, which puts her at a disadvantage to Joe Biden.  However, in nineteen months as governor, she certainly has had more practical experience in diplomacy than Biden or Obama have ever seen.  She runs the only American state bordered only by two foreign countries, one of which has increasingly grown hostile to the US again, Russia.

And let’s face it — Team Obama can hardly attack Palin for a lack of foreign-policy experience.  Obama has none at all, and neither Obama or Biden have any executive experience.  Palin has almost over seven years of executive experience. …”

The ticket: McCain-Palin

“…Noting that the day fell almost 88 years to the day after American women gained the right to vote, Palin, becoming the first female Republican to run for vice president, won loud cheers from what was McCain’s largest rally yet by highlighting her gender.

Although Palin mentioned neither Barack Obama nor Joe Biden, she paid homage to Geraldine Ferraro , as well as to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

“It was rightly noted in Denver this week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America,” Palin said. “But it turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.”

Palin began to tell the crowd and the stunned political class watching on TV about her unlikely rise from small-town Alaska to the national stage, with flourishes that could never be made up. …”

GOP Source: Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, Madam Vice President

James Pethokoukis

“…Sarah Palin doesn’t tick off all the boxes—notably foreign policy experience. But she ticks off quite a few. She is pro-life. She will appeal to economic conservatives. (Here is what Club for Growth President Pat Toomey says: “At a time when many Republicans are still clinging to pork-barrel politics, Governor Palin has quickly become a leader on this issue. She is a principled reformer who understands how badly wasteful spending has marred the Republican brand.”) And as far as national security goes, energy is at the center of that issue—a Palin strength. If early reaction is any indication. St. Paul will be rocking. …”

Former Presidential Candidate Gary Bauer Calls Choice of Sarah Palin for GOP Vice-President ‘Historic and Energizing’

“…This is a grand slam home run for John McCain.”

Bauer, chairman of the Campaign for Working Families, one of the nation’s
largest pro-family, pro-life, pro-strong defense political action committees,
made the following statement about Gov. Palin as a standard-bearer for the
GOP:

“I believe we now have the most pro-life ticket in history running on the
most pro-life platform in history.

“Gov. Palin’s credentials as a leader include taking on political
corruption and reducing spending. But her promises of change were not just
words; they became actions.  And her concern for country has been passed down
to her five children. Her oldest son, Track, joined the Army last year on the
sixth anniversary of the September 11th attacks, and is serving his country.”

“All conservatives should be proud to support this historic ticket of
proven reformers with records of self-sacrifice for their country and their
families.” …”

Sarah Palin Develops Strong Pro-Life Record on Abortion as Alaska Governor

by Steven Ertelt
LifeNews.com Editor

“As the governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin hasn’t had many opportunities to address the issue of abortion, but she has promoted a pro-life position when given the opportunity. Palin has appeared to have an attitude focusing on getting pro-life measures approved but making sure they’re done right.

The Alaska legislature approved a parental consent bill to help parents know when their minor children are considering an abortion and to give them the ability to veto the abortion.

The Alaska Supreme Court eventually declared unconstitutional on a 3-2 vote.

Palin called the high court’s ruling “outrageous” and asked Attorney General Talis Colberg to file legal papers asking for a re-hearing.

“She feels parental consent is reasonable because it is required in nearly every aspect of a child’s life. It’s a parent’s right and responsibility to be involved in their child’s life,” spokeswoman Sharon Leighow said at the time. …”

Palin for America: A true conservative: “She knows when to stand up and doesn’t let anyone tell her to sit down”

Another Perspective
Que Sarah, Sarah
By Thomas Cheplick

“…Mrs. Palin is one of conservatism’s own, and would be the first female vice president. She’s young being only 44 (two years behind Senator Obama), she is wildly known to despise government corruption. She defeated a horribly entrenched and corrupt Republican political machine in Alaska. She has a son in the U.S. military. She’s strongly pro-life, belonging, in fact, to Feminists for Life.

Gov. Palin could become the Republican Party’s Segolene Royal, the French Socialist Party’s glamorous leader known for her heels and political bite. She is the perfect antidote to Sen. Obama’s cheap thrills, and would help rejuvenate conservatism. …”

“…She has enchanting, fresh charisma and the credentials, too, to win back and motivate a lot of conservatives, disaffected Republicans, and independents tired of government corruption and Republican degeneracy and sheer idiocy.

McCain needs someone who like Sen. Obama physically represents a departure from the past, who also oozes vibrancy and intelligence, will motivate die-hard conservatives, but what’s more, who will also let the Arizonan take advantage of his age and enable him to be the playful and charming Reagan-esque grandfather figure that Americans always fall in love with. In other words, Sen. McCain, like President Nixon in the 1968 election, needs an opposite number — that’s Sarah Palin in the flesh. …”

McCain/Palin ticket gets a big boost from Rush Limbaugh

McCain VP Pick (Updated with Video)

“…There is another potential candidate I’d heard nothing about and certainly had not considered until reading an article yesterday in The American Spectator online.  The article was titled Que Sarah, Sarah and suggests that a good choice for McCain’s VP pick would be Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.  The reasoning for the recommendation is both interesting and sound in my judgement.  From the Spectator article:

Sarah Palin, the beautiful conservative Republican governor of Alaska, would be an ideal choice to help McCain slay this unholy ObamaOprah beast which is set to rake in nearly $50 million a month in campaign donations alone, and has intense auxiliary support coming from the unions, George Soros’s billions-infused Democracy Alliance organization, and other rich Democratic networks.

Right out the gate, Governor Palin’s attractiveness is highlighted!  I can’t say I’ve ever considered that as a political qualification.  Still, there was much more than mere appearance to recommend the governor.

Mrs.

There’s a lot there to recommend the admittedly attractive Governor.  Her youth is a nice contrast to McCain’s age and her opposition to government corruption is a definite plus.  Being strongly pro-life helps too.

I really don’t know much about Governor Palin.  I also don’t have any idea if she’s on the short list.  I will, however, be doing more research on her.  If she is indeed the real deal she could be a powerful force in the McCain campaign.  This just might bear watching. …”
