The Hollow Men

While listening to various talk radio shows, the two words I hear over and over again from the callers to describe Senator Obama are “empty suit” .

I prefer calling him one of the “hollow men” .

In an introduction to Gerhart Niemeyer’s Aftersight and Foresight: Select Essays, Michael Henry wrote:

Contemporary conservatives have perforce become virtual revolutionaries through their opposition to the liberal intellectual Establishment status quo, “an amalgam of socialism, positivism, progressivism, and anti-Christian humanism.”  These Western “isms,” as well as Communism, share in an attack on tradition, experience, common sense, religion, and the sense of identity we have, or should have, inherited from the past. To reject the tradition, the accumulated wisdom of countless human beings who reflected on their human experience and on the tradition they receive is to turn ourselves into amnesiacs, “hollow men,” incapable of significant communication, self-knowledge, understanding of the past, or realistic expectations of the future. And, as history has all too abundantly demonstrated, the more diminished our self-knowledge, the more fragmentary our grasp of the human, the more limited our perception of others as participants in the same human condition with ourselves, the more evil we do.

The American people slowly but surely see the heart of the matter as they take the measure of the character and leadership abilities of the Presidential candidates.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

“…The data looks very similar to results from the period preceding the speech and, with fourteen weeks to go, the race for the White House is a toss-up. …”

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Obama is full of himself and the American people see it and do not care for it.

The more they see and hear Senator Obama, the less they like what they see and hear.

Senator Obama is the problem for the Democratic Party.

The pump and dump drive-by mainstream media are beginning to realize that their anointed candidate is not selling and neither is their coverage as the number of their viewers, listeners, and readers declines.

Senator Obama should be leading by at least ten percentage points in the polls!

Among likely voters Senator Obama is actually behind.

President Obama Continues Hectic Victory Tour

By Dana Milbank

“…As he marches toward Inauguration Day (Election Day is but a milestone on that path), Obama’s biggest challenger may not be Republican John McCain but rather his own hubris. …”

“…One source of the confidence is the polling, which shows him with a big lead over McCain. But polls are fickle allies: A USA TodayGallup poll released Monday found McCain leading Obama by four percentage points among likely voters. Another reason for Obama’s confidence — the press — is also an unfaithful partner. The Project for Excellence in Journalism reported yesterday that Obama dominated the news media’s attention for a seventh straight week. But there are signs that the Obama campaign’s arrogance has begun to anger reporters. …”

Obama’s Symbolic Importance

Updated 10:59 a.m. 7/30/08
By Jonathan Weisman

“…Obama was waxing lyrical about last week’s trip to Europe, when he concluded, according to the meeting attendee, “this is the moment, as Nancy [Pelosi] noted, that the world is waiting for.”

The 200,000 souls who thronged to his speech in Berlin came not just for him, he told the enthralled audience of congressional representatives. “I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions,” he said, according to the source. …”

The only way he can win is to choose either Senator Hillary Clinton or former Vice-President Al Gore as his running mate.

Well if Senator John F. Kennedy could choose Senator Lyndon B. Johnson, this decision should not be too painful.

The Dream Ticket

Great arrogance, hubris, haste and ignorance are not the qualities I am looking for in a person running for the office of President of the United States of America.

I am looking for a candidate that will honor their oath of office, enforce the laws and maintain order.

Lou Dobbs Demands that Barack Obama Apologize to Him

Yes we can remove and deport all the criminal aliens to their country of origin,  Senator Obama, it is the law!

Even you, Senator Obama, are not above the law.

“Richard Weaver taught us that ‘ideas have consequences.’ We must tell each other now that ideas have also roots, and learn how to think by going to the radix, the root of our disunities. One byproduct of that kind of effort is that we learn not to blame others, as we come to see ourselves as part of the problem.”

“…a government must appeal to its citizens in terms of competence, realism, sobriety, and personal character. Rather than whipping up enthusiasm, it must seek to bring calm to agitated souls. In the language of Camus, it must restore a sense of limits. Its rhetoric must endeavor to make limits plausible. …”

~Gerhart Niemeyer

“I have three precious things which I hold fast and prize. The first is gentleness; the second frugality; the third is humility, which keeps me from putting myself before others. Be gentle and you can be bold; be frugal and you can be liberal; avoid putting yourself before others and you can become a leader among men.”

~Lao-Tzu

What is an Empty Suit?

“…An empty suit tends to refer to a non-important person — perhaps someone puffed up with his own importance but really having little effect on the lives of others. It is often used as an insult to disparage others who really don’t deserve the title. The true empty suit, which conjures up the image of a business suit of clothing without a person, really doesn’t know what he or she is doing. He or she is ineffectual, perhaps a phony, and is about as relevant or helpful as a suit hanging on a rack.

To call someone an empty suit implies that you think they are a complete waste of time. Editorials on politicians love to use the term empty suit to describe people seeking presidential office. This or that politician is just “an empty suit,” to quote the words of numerous political critics, and is thus undeserving of our attention. …”

Obama and the Affirmative Action Media

By James Lewis

“Sometimes it’s important to state the obvious, as George Orwell urged in another era of big lies and Political Correctness. It’s obvious that the media are in the bag for Obama for one big reason, and one reason only: his race. The media have adopted liberal race bias as it is practiced on hundreds of campuses, in newsrooms all over, and in corporations galore. It’s “affirmative” race discrimination, but it’s still completely arbitrary favoritism based on skin color.

There’s something profoundly wrong with that. It offends our sense of fair play. When governments behave this way it’s a flagrant violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution. Every time normal people get a chance to vote, they vote against it.  Even leftwing Supreme Court justices say that affirmative action is only a “temporary” fix for a history of discrimination against blacks.

But that’s a lie. The race industry will never let go; on the contrary, they are including ever-more victim groups. The gender industry came in on top of the civil rights movement, and the sexual minority establishment rode in on the back of feminism.  Hispanics and illegals are going to be the next big victim groups. From anti-black discrimination to anti-white  discrimination — where’s the progress?  …”

T. S. Eliot: The Hollow Men

The Hollow Men

I

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats’ feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death’s other Kingdom
Remember us — if at all — not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

II

Eyes I dare not meet in dreams
In death’s dream kingdom
These do not appear:
There, the eyes are
Sunlight on a broken column
There, is a tree swinging
And voices are
In the wind’s singing
More distant and more solemn
Than a fading star.

Let me be no nearer
In death’s dream kingdom
Let me also wear
Such deliberate disguises
Rat’s coat, crowskin, crossed staves
In a field
Behaving as the wind behaves
No nearer —

Not that final meeting
In the twilight kingdom

III

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Is it like this
In death’s other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.

IV

The eyes are not here
There are no eyes here
In this valley of dying stars
In this hollow valley
This broken jaw of our lost kingdoms

In this last of meeting places
We grope together
And avoid speech
Gathered on this beach of the tumid river

Sightless, unless
The eyes reappear
As the perpetual star
Multifoliate rose
Of death’s twilight kingdom
The hope only
Of empty men.

V

Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o’clock in the morning.

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Life is very long

Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
For Thine is the Kingdom

For Thine is
Life is
For Thine is the

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Thomas Stearns Eliot
