Read My Lips: Romney The Progressive Taxman Will Not Rule Out A New Value Added Tax!–Videos
Ron Paul needs to prepare another attack ad on Mitt Romney and his statement he will not rule out the Value Added Tax and review Romney’s record of tax and fee increase when he was Governor.
Paul should also come out for a FairTax Less alternative with a 20% rate and a $250 per person per month rebate. This would get the FairTax people on your side.
This would beatall of the other candidates tax plans and would cut the tax burden.

The Value Added Tax: A Hidden New Tax to Finance Much Bigger Government

Romney and the VAT
by Ed Morrissey
“…Romney wants to push a theme of reform, and in that vein talked about his ideas for comprehensive tax reform, a subject that has the possibilities for wide bipartisan support — or for political disaster, depending on what kind of reform one proposes. He tried to stick to broad, general principles, but the WSJ pinned him down on the idea of a consumption tax:
What about his reform principles? Mr. Romney talks only in general terms. “Moving to a consumption-based system is something which is very attractive to me philosophically, but I’ve not been able to sufficiently model it out to jump on board a consumption-based tax. A flat tax, a true flat tax is also attractive to me. What I like—I mean, I like the simplification of a flat tax. I also like removing the distortion in our tax code for certain classes of investment. And the advantage of a flat tax is getting rid of some of those distortions.”
Since Mr. Romney mentioned a consumption tax, would he rule out a value-added tax?
He says he doesn’t “like the idea” of layering a VAT onto the current income tax system. But he adds that, philosophically speaking, a VAT might work as a replacement for some part of the tax code, “particularly at the corporate level,” as Paul Ryan proposed several years ago. What he doesn’t do is rule a VAT out.
Amid such generalities, it’s hard not to conclude that the candidate is trying to avoid offering any details that might become a political target. And he all but admits as much. “I happen to also recognize,” he says, “that if you go out with a tax proposal which conforms to your philosophy but it hasn’t been thoroughly analyzed, vetted, put through models and calculated in detail, that you’re gonna get hit by the demagogues in the general election.”
That also seems to explain his refusal to propose cuts in individual tax rates, except for people who make less than $200,000, which not coincidentally is also Mr. Obama’s threshold for defining “the rich.”
The VAT is political dynamite, as Romney well knows, for a number of reasons. Europe relies on both VATs and income taxes for individuals and corporations, which has fueled government expansion and allows for easy revenue increases by tax-hiking politicians — to which we will return in a moment. Nancy Pelosi floated the idea two years ago of an additional VAT to fund ObamaCare, which had conservatives seeing red at the time and which no doubt helped paint the midterms red in 2010, in at least some small part. …”
Will Republicans Hand the Left a VAT Victory?
Mitt Romney won’t rule out the possibility of imposing a tax that’s the fast track to a European welfare state.
Dan Mitchell
“…In a recent interview on these pages, presidential candidate Mitt Romney refused to rule out a value-added tax (VAT). He suggested that this hidden form of a national sales tax—which is embedded in the prices of goods and services during the production process—might be appropriate, particularly as a way of financing other tax cuts.
He’s not the only Republican to speak favorably of a VAT. Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 tax plan featured a flat tax and national sales tax. Very few people realized, however, that the final 9 was a VAT. And Rep. Paul Ryan, the chairman of the House Budget Committee and a favorite of the tea party thanks to his bold reforms to modernize Medicare and Medicaid, includes a VAT in his “Roadmap” plan, where it helps finance other reforms such as eliminating the corporate income tax.
What’s going on here?
Most Republican supporters are drawn to the VAT for relatively benign reasons. It is a single-rate system, like the flat tax, for raising revenue, so it does not raise the possibility of class-warfare demagoguery. The VAT also doesn’t hit savings and investment. And there are no distorting and corrupt loopholes. So there’s a lot to like about the levy—or would be, if there were some practicable way of substituting a VAT for taxes on income. …”
“…Unsurprisingly, President Obama is favorably inclined toward a VAT, having recently claimed that it is “something that has worked for other countries.” And yet it’s unlikely that the president would propose a VAT, in large part because he is fixated on class-warfare tax hikes. If he did, almost every Republican in Congress would be opposed, even if only for partisan reasons.
But what if a VAT sympathizer like Mr. Romney wins next November and decides that his plan for a lower corporate tax rate is only possible if accompanied by a VAT? There will be quite a few Republicans who like that idea because they want to do something nice for their lobbyist friends in the business community. And there will be many Democrats drawn to the plan because they realize that they need this new source of revenue to enable bigger government.
That’s a win-win deal for politicians and a terrible deal for taxpayers.”

Daniel Mitchell: Beware as GOP Hints of VAT Tax
A VAT tax, like any tax, leads to bigger government, which would ultimately serve as a victory for the left.
“The most important thing to realize is that many people in Washington want bigger government, and a VAT is a necessary condition for that to happen,” Mitchell writes in a Wall Street Journal column.
“Simply stated, there is no way to turn America into a European-style welfare state without this new source of revenue.”
Imposing more taxes on the wealthy won’t generate enough revenue to create bigger government embraced by those on the left, Mitchell argues.
“And that’s why, looking at the long-run fiscal situation, the left needs a VAT. It’s is the only realistic way to collect the huge amount of revenue that will be necessary to finance the mountainous benefits promised by our entitlement programs.”
That’s why Republicans must resist the idea. …”

Vote out of office any politicans of either political party that favors letting the Bush tax cuts expire or a new and additional value added tax or VAT and/or a cap and trade energy tax.
Time to stop the spending and close down ten Federal Government Departments.
Time for the FairTax, a national consumption sales tax that would replace all Federal income, payroll, capital gains, gift and estate taxes, eliminate the filing of tax returns and abolish the Internal Revenue service.
Time to vote out of office all the progressive radical socialist of both political parties who want to expand the size and scopt of government by more and higher taxes.

I am now an independent and as the above chart clearly illustrates our numbers are growing daily.
Both political parties have been fiscally irresponsible in running up massive Federal government deficits year after year which in turn has led to the explosive growth in the National Debt and interest that must be paid each year.

Independents outnumber Democrats, Republicans
by Liz Sidoti/ Associated Press
“…Barack Obama’s presidency has ushered in an era of centrism, with the country experiencing such a boost in independent voters that they now make up the largest proportion of the electorate in 70 years.
This fickle group doesn’t have uniform opinions, so its dominance carries potential risks for emboldened Democrats and opportunities for out-of-power Republicans. …”
