Anybody who watched the health care summit meeting last week could not help but be struck by the difference between the President and the Democrats and the Republicans at the meeting.

The Progressive Radical Socialists of the Democratic Party led by President Obama told tear-jerking tale after tale of Americans not getting the health care they needed. No mention was made of the fact the Federal Government, who currently funds or provides health care for over sixty percent of all health care including Medicare, Medicaid, the Armed Forces and Native American Indians currently does not pay its share of the medical bills and provides mediocre to poor health care at best. The cost of the health care not paid for by the Federal Government is shifted to those with private health care insurance. When you take into account this cost shifting, Government mandated coverages and the cost of defensive medicine due to high damage awards in medical malpractice law suits, the result is the ever increasing annual health insurance premiums.

Do not blame the health insurance companies, the real blame is the Federal and State Governments and the trial lawyers who are the number one campaign contributors to the Progressive Radical Socialist Democratic Party. The Progressive Radical Socialists really do not give a damn about your health or health care insurance plan.

Also the fact that Medicare is running huge deficits already that are about to get even bigger as the baby boomer generation becomes eligible starting 2011. The United States is going broke and President Obama’s health care plan would make it worse. This is imprudent and irresponsible. This is not leadership but the actions of an economy wrecker and job destroyer that is following his Cloward Piven strategy of the Progressive Radical Socialists.

The Republicans presented fact after fact that the Progressive Radical Progressives, especially President Obama, did not want to hear. President Obama’s body language revealed that he was about to explode, how dare they mention these the facts to the incompetent ideologue, lying liberal, and narcisstic nut. President Obama won the election. Yes we know, too bad he does not how to lead and build a consensus.

The fact that over 2 out of 3 Americans do not want the Progressive Radical Socialist health care plan is one fact of life the tone deaf Democrats do not want to hear or even recognize. Any political party that continually defies the will of the American people is committing political suicide.

Among Christians, if not politicians, suicide is a mortal sin.

Life is a precious gift from God.

Life is a daily struggle.

Life is unfair.

Where there is life, there is hope.

The American people do not want President Obama’s and the Progressive Radical Socialist Democratic Party’s Health Care Plan.

The American people hope President Obama’s Health Care Plan is defeated, if not now, then in November.

One very inconvenient truth that both the Democrats and Republicans did not mention at their meeting on health care was the impact and cost of providing health care for over thirty million illegal aliens living and working in the United States of America. Nearly every month one or more county hospitals are closing their doors because they can no longer afford providing medical care to these millions of illegal aliens.

With more than thirty million Americans seeking full-time employment, more than twice the number than during the worse month of the Great Depression, the American people want the illegal aliens to just go home or face deportation. The American people want and need jobs. Many of these jobs are now being performed by illegal aliens.

Every day Americans are seeing jobs they used to be employed at being done by illegal aliens. This is a political scandal that both political parties are responsible for. Both political parties are directly responsible for the open borders policies that resulted in this problem. The Repubicians wanted the campaign contributions from the businesses that benefited from the cheap labor of illegal aliens. The Democrats wanted the illegal alien votes once amnesty was granted to them under comprehensive immigration reform and a pathway to citizenship.

The forgotten man and woman was the American people. The low skilled American worker of all races and creeds was thrown out of a job so the progressive radical socialist could achieve their political goals. The result is the highest unemployment rates since the Great Depression for the young, for blacks, for hispanics, and for the unskilled entry level worker.

The political elites of both political parties said the hell with the American people. They wanted to maintain their power and political offices. There will be a day of reckoning for the politicians of both parties, mainly progressives, that did this to the American people.

The American people chose liberty and life.

The Progressive Radical Socialist chose tyranny and death–political suicide.

May they rest in peace.

41% Favor Obama’s Health Care Plan, 56% Oppose

“…Voters still strongly oppose the health care reform plan proposed by President Obama and congressional Democrats and think Congress should focus instead on smaller bills that address problems individually rather than a comprehensive plan.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 41% of voters favor the proposed health care plan, while 56% oppose it. Those figures include 45% who strongly oppose the plan and just 23% who strongly favor it.

Support for and opposition to the plan are at the same levels they’ve been at since just after Thanksgiving.

Democrats continue to strongly support the health care plan much while it is opposed by Republicans and voters not affiliated with either major party. Seventy percent (70%) of the Political Class strongly favor the plan, while 57% of Mainstream voters strongly oppose it.

Sixty-three percent (63%) of all voters say a better strategy to reform the health care system would be to pass smaller bills that address problems individually. Twenty-seven percent (27%) still think passing a comprehensive bill that covers all aspects of the health care system is a better idea. Eleven percent (11%) are undecided. …”

47% Oppose Public Option Health Plan; 58% Oppose If Workers Forced To Change Coverage

“…Democrats continue to be strong supporters of a public option, while Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party oppose it.

If the creation of that public option encourages companies to drop private insurance coverage for their workers as many critics contend it will, opposition among all voters jumps to 58%. Support drops to 28%. These findings are unchanged from October.

That’s explained in part by the finding that 59% of voters believe it is more important to guarantee that no one is forced to change their health insurance coverage than to give consumers the choice of a public option. Thirty percent (30%) think the choice of a government-run health insurance program is more important. These findings have changed very little in surveys stretching back for months.

Voters are only slightly less concerned about what might happen if workers are forced to change their health insurance coverage. Thirty-one percent (31%) say it would be good for employees if their company dropped the insurance coverage it provides and they were enrolled instead in a government-sponsored health insurance plan. Forty-five percent (45%) disagree and say it would be bad for the employees to be forced into a government plan. Nearly one-in-four voters (24%) aren’t sure.

Forty-one percent (41%) of voters favor the overall health care plan proposed by the president and congressional Democrats, but 56% oppose it. Support for and opposition to the plan are at the same levels they’ve been at since just after Thanksgiving.

Earlier this month, just after the president called for today’s summit meeting, 61% of voters said Congress should scrap the proposed health care plan and start all over again. …”

“…The so-called bipartisan health care summit should leave no doubt that President Obama is not concerned with any input from Republicans. What the President is concerned with is moving health care legislation ahead any way he can.

While the President and Democrats parroted White House talking points and told numerous personal and anecdotal health care stories, Republicans presented substantive policy ideas, quoted relative facts and figures, and addressed procedural concerns.

Every substantive point made by Republican’s was followed by a direct rebuttal from the President, usually accompanied by a warning or scolding.

The President’s rebuttals were always prefaced with, “You make a good point,” followed by specific talking points reiterating why any Republican “good points” would never be considered in any final health care bill.

President Obama made sure every Republican in the room understood that the “election was over,” that he was President, that he could talk as much as he liked, and that the use of any facts and props by Republicans was way out of line. …”

“…Funny? Not really. Not at first.

As I would later learn, Sam Kinison was not one of those comics who could hop on a stage and have you laughing from the first word. He needed time, which is why those who later knew him only from his bits on Letterman or Saturday Night Live wondered what the fuss was. Six minutes of Kinison was a bore.

But half an hour…well, that was something else.

He also needed to be seen live, in a club…and not just because laundering/bleeping him for network TV obliterated half his vocabulary. No, you had to see him live for the same reason that you have to see any good death-defier live. When you see a guy juggling chain saws on TV, there’s no sense of danger: You know he’s taped, you know he’s thousands of miles away, you know they wouldn’t be running the show if the juggler had slipped and taken off his thumb. In person, when you see it live, there’s a slight tension — maybe we’re about to witness a guy kill himself, right before our eyes — that you don’t get on TV.

That’s exactly why you had to see Sam Kinison live.

And, that night, we did. Better, we saw Sam Kinison live before he made it, before his act was about his success…back when it was still about how miserable his life was. This may sound cruel but I have never laughed so hard in my life.

And it was a good laugh because it was about something: Kinison was pacing the stage, angrily telling all about the latest in a long procession of women who had taken — not necessarily in order of difficulty of replacement — his records, his money, his time and his heart. He talked about how he’d fallen for it again; how, time after time, he’d made the same, stupid mistake to think this was it, this was The One and how it had all suddenly done a Jekyll/Hyde on him and he was in hell once again, less furious at the woman who had put him there than he was at his own stupidity for falling for it the umpteenth time.

And then there was the scream…that scream that, for a time after Sam hit, every impressionist, professional or amateur, tried to duplicate without success. They tried but they couldn’t do it…because, well, to them, it was just a scream. To Sam, it was something primal, coming not from his throat but from deep down in that small part of his soul that was so empty, it gave the scream that extra echo, that extra reverb. A genuine howl of pain it was, and he used it in the most effective manner…not to make statements but simply to punctuate them. …”

“…Samuel Burl “Sam” Kinison (December 8, 1953 – April 10, 1992) was an American stand-up comedian and actor. Kinison was known for his intense, harsh humor. A former revival-style preacher, he performed stand-up routines that were most often characterized by an intense style, similar to revival preachers, punctuated by his trademark scream.

Born in Yakima, Washington, Kinison was the son of Marie and Samuel Kinison, Pentecostal preachers.[1] His father pastored several churches around the country, receiving little income. Sam later attended high school in East Peoria, Illinois. He also lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a while with his parents. He followed in his father’s footsteps as a Pentecostal preacher before becoming a comedian. Recordings of his sermons reveal that he used a “fire and brimstone” style, punctuated with shouts similar to the ones he would later use in his stand-up routines. He attended Pinecrest Bible Training Center in Salisbury Center, New York.[2] After he and his first wife were divorced, he abandoned preaching and took up comedy as a profession.

Sam Kinison began his career in Houston, Texas, where he performed in small clubs. It was not until his appearance on HBO’s Rodney Dangerfield’s Ninth Annual Young Comedians Special in the summer of 1984 that he became a well known comic. His appearance on the special is widely considered to be his breakthrough performance. Later, during Kinison’s appearance on Late Night with David Letterman, Letterman’s introduction of Kinison warned his audience: “Brace yourselves. I’m not kidding. Please welcome Sam Kinison.”

Kinison played on his former role as a Bible-preaching evangelist, taking satirical and sacrilegious shots at The Bible, Christianity and famous Christian evangelist scandals of his day. Kinison’s daring comedy helped shoot him to stardom. On several videos of his stand-up routines, a shot of his personalized license plate reveals the words “EX REV”.

Kinison made his big screen debut in Rodney Dangerfield’s 1986 film Back to School, playing a short-tempered professor.

Kinison was associated with the Los Angeles rock music scene and was occasionally accompanied by a touring band. He also gained a reputation as having a prodigious appetite for drugs and alcohol.[3]

In 1988, Kinison recorded a novelty version of The Troggs’ “Wild Thing”, which appeared on his album Have You Seen Me Lately? The record did not make the Billboard Hot 100, but the video was a hit on MTV, as it featured cameos of Rodney Dangerfield, as well as many well-known rock musicians, including Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Slash, Billy Idol, Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa, Richie Sambora, and Tommy Lee, and a raunchy “roll on the mat” dance with Jessica Hahn. Also in 1988, Kinison appeared in the music video for the Bon Jovi single “Bad Medicine”.

Kinison appeared in the memorable episode “It’s a Bundyful Life: Part 2″ (1989) of Married with Children, as Al Bundy’s guardian angel, who shows him what life would be like without him born (a take-off of It’s a Wonderful Life).

During one notable Tonight Show performance, he delivered what began as a straightforward version of Elvis Presley’s “Are You Lonesome Tonight?”, which descended into angry ranting during the spoken breakdown, and then segueing back into a straightforward sung ending.

Some of Kinison’s most spontaneous moments came during his frequent appearances on The Howard Stern Show. He made an angry phone call on-air to Bobcat Goldthwait, and he embarrassed comedienne Judy Tenuta to the point of driving her off the show. His most notorious stunt resulted in an on-air feud with Stern: he made an on-air promise to bring to the show members of the band Bon Jovi, with whom Stern was feuding, but they did not show up, nor did Kinison. Stern’s reaction was swift and vindictive, and Kinison eventually apologized, but not before comedian Gilbert Gottfried and Stern savaged an emotionally charged phone call between Stern and Kinison, in which both stars used the words “man” and “dude” so often that the playback was used as a bit on the show.

Stern and Kinison eventually made up and paired on Stern’s pay-per-view special, U.S. Open Sores. In the early-1990s, Stern purchased the movie rights to Kinison’s biography ‘reported[4] that HBO would make Brother Sam with Kinison being played by Dan Fogler.

In 1991, Kinison starred in the Fox Network TV show Charlie Hoover, in which he played the inner voice of the title character, appearing as a 12″ man. The show lasted only seven episodes before being canceled.

On April 10, 1992, six days after he married his girlfriend Malika Souiri, Sam Kinison was killed when his white 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am was struck on U.S. Route 95, four miles (6 km) north of Interstate 40 and several miles west of Needles, California, by a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old male who had been drinking alcohol.[5][6] His wife survived the accident. Kinison was later found to have traces of cocaine, prescription tranquilizers, and codeine in his bloodstream.[7]

Kinison is interred with family members at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His grave marker includes an unattributed quote, “In another time and place he would have been called prophet.”[8]

“…Forget everything you know about Windows Mobile. Seriously, throw the whole OS concept in a garbage bin or incinerator or something. Microsoft has done what would have been unthinkable for the company just a few years ago: started from scratch. At least, that’s how things look (and feel) with Windows Phone 7 Series. This really is a completely new OS — and not just Microsoft’s new OS, it’s a new smartphone OS, like webOS new, like iPhone OS new. You haven’t used an interface like this before (well, okay, if you’ve used a Zune HD then you’ve kind of used an interface like this). Still, 7 Series goes wider and deeper than the Zune by a longshot, and it’s got some pretty intense ideas about how you’re supposed to be interacting with a mobile device. We had a chance to go hands-on with the dev phone before today’s announcement, and hear from some of the people behind the devices, and here’s our takeaway. (And don’t worry, we’ve got loads of pictures and video coming, so keep checking this post for the freshest updates).

First the look and feel. The phones are really secondary here, and we want to focus on the interface. The design and layout of 7 Series’ UI (internally called Metro) is really quite original, utilizing what one of the designers (Albert Shum, formerly of Nike) calls an “authentically digital” and “chromeless” experience. What does that mean? Well we can tell you what it doesn’t mean — no shaded icons, no faux 3D or drop shadows, no busy backgrounds (no backgrounds at all), and very little visual flair besides clean typography and transition animations. The whole look is strangely reminiscent of a terminal display (maybe Microsoft is recalling its DOS roots here) — almost Tron-like in its primary color simplicity. To us, it’s rather exciting. This OS looks nothing like anything else on the market, and we think that’s to its advantage. Admittedly, we could stand for a little more information available within single views, and we have yet to see how the phone will handle things like notifications, but the design of the interface is definitely in a class of its own. Windows Phone 7: A Mobile Game-Changer?

Just when it looked like an iPhone-Android-BlackBerry troika was shaping up, Microsoft and Nokia each tries one last shot

Galen Gruman, Infoworld”…The awkwardly named Windows Phone 7 is a radical remake of Windows Mobile, whose complex, variable interface and attempt to cram a computer into a smartphone’s small screen simply didn’t work. Originally popular in some industries as a minicomputer for field forces, Windows Mobile has increasingly been displaced by the iPhone and then Android operating systems.

Microsoft hasn’t shared many details of WinPhone, so I have to take the love fests emanating from fanboy sites like Engadget with a big grain of salt. But based on what Microsoft has demoed, the WinPhone is at least interesting.

WinPhone mixes a very 20-something UI heavy on messaging, games, music, and photos with standard 40-something business capabilities such as a mobile Office productivity suite and the mobile Outlook email client. And there’s the mobile Internet Explorer Web browser for users of all ages.

Learning from Apple

Microsoft is clearly taking a big page from Apple’s book by putting its Zune and Xbox capabilities front and center — much as the iPhone did with its iPod functions at the 2007 launch of the iPhone. The computer capabilities of the WinPhone are hardly mentioned, a major break from Windows Mobile’s microcomputer legacy. And Microsoft is emphasizing gaming, much as Apple does for its phone-less iPod Touch — but unlike Apple, Microsoft can leverage its Xbox reputation for the WinPhone. …”

Conservative Political Action Conference

“…Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC; pronounced /si.pæk/, see-pak) is an annual political conference attended by conservative activists, and elected officials from across the United States. The conference began in 1973 as a small gathering of dedicated conservatives but has since grown into a large event attracting members of Congress, college activists, and other political celebrities. It is hosted by the American Conservative Union Foundation in association with sponsors Human Events and the Young America’s Foundation.

Each year it holds a straw poll of potential presidential candidates. Speakers have included Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Pat Buchanan, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Mitt Romney. Before, during, and after his presidency, Reagan spoke at CPAC a total of 12 times. The 2010 speaker will be Glenn Beck, an American radio and television host, author, conservative political commentator, and entrepreneur. ^[1] CPAC is not affiliated with the Republican Party, and involves non-partisan groups and members of the Libertarian Party.[citation needed] Since 2007 the Jeane Kirkpatrick Academic Freedom Award has been presented during the conference.

“…Richard A. Muller (born January 6, 1944 in New York, New York, USA) is a physicist who works at the University of California, Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

Muller obtained a A.B. degree at Columbia University (New York) and a Ph.D. degree in physics from University of California, Berkeley. Muller began his career as a graduate student under Nobel laureate Luis Alvarez doing particle physics experiments and working with bubble chambers. During his early years he also helped to cocreate accelerator mass spectroscopy and made some of the first measurements of anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background.

Subsequently, Muller branched out into other areas of science, and in particular the earth sciences. His work has included attempting to understand the ice ages, dynamics at the core-mantle boundary, patterns of extinction and biodiversity through time, and the processes associated with impact cratering. One of his most well known proposals is the Nemesis hypothesis suggesting that the sun could have an as yet undetected companion star, whose perturbations of the Oort cloud and subsequent effects on the flux of comets entering the inner solar system could explain an apparent 26 million year periodicity in extinction events.

A lesson with Richard Muller

Muller is a member of the JASON Defense Advisory Group which brings together prominent scientists as consultants for the United States Department of Defense.

He was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow in 1982. He also received the Alan T. Waterman Award from the National Science Foundation “for highly original and innovative research which has led to important discoveries and inventions in diverse areas of physics, including astrophysics, radioisotope dating, and optics.” More recently, he received a distinguished teaching award from UC Berkeley [1]. His “Physics for Future Presidents” series of lectures, in which Muller teaches a synopsis of modern qualitative (i.e. without resorting to complicated math) physics, has been released publicly on YouTube by UC Berkeley and has been published in book form. It has been one of the most highly regarded courses at Berkeley.

On Thursday Dec 3rd 2009 Muller announced his retirement in his Letters in Science C70V lecture Dec 3rd 2009 Lecture 14m 15sec into the lecture. He will continue to guest lecture the course which he created and has the popular name “Physics for Future Presidents” but Bob Jacobsen will be taking over the course. Muller said he will be putting most of his time into “energy, environment, global warming, alternative energy” 14m 55s into the same lecture.

For several years, he was a monthly columnist with MIT’s Technology Review. In his August 2003 column on the polygraph machine used in lie detection examinations, Muller asserted that “the polygraph procedure has an accuracy between 80 and 95 percent.” In contrast, the National Academy of Sciences found that there is “little basis for the expectation that a polygraph test could have extremely high accuracy.”^[1]

Muller is President and Chief Scientist of Muller & Associates, an international consulting group specializing in energy-related issues. ^[2]

“…If the issue is rising emissions in the next several decades, the bottom line is simple: The developed world is rapidly becoming irrelevant.

Every 10% cut in the U.S. is negated by one year of China’s growth. By 2040 China could be the most economically dominant nation on earth. The West might be able to cajole it, but won’t be able to impose sanctions on China. Temperature will be at the mercy of the newly powerful economies.

Moreover, an expensive effort to reduce Western emissions sets a worthless example. Only emissions cuts that provide measurable economic benefit to the developing nations will be adopted by them. If the 80% U.S. emissions cut winds up hurting the U.S. economy, it guarantees China will never follow our example.

Cheap green energy is not going to be easy. Coal is dirt cheap, and China has been installing a new gigawatt coal plant each week—enough to supply five completely new cities the size of New York every year.

Technological change can help a great deal. For now carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) from coal combustion is unproven, but so is cheap solar. I expect we can make CCS work. Perhaps the West can subsidize CCS in China or pay to make its plants CCS ready. A dollar spent in China can reduce CO2 much more than a dollar spent in the U.S.

There is another alternative: luck. Here’s how it could help. Scientists are aware of a phenomenon that would counter the greenhouse effect: warmth evaporates water; water creates clouds; clouds reflect sunlight. A small cloud increase would significantly reduce predicted warming. The IPCC gives such cloud feedback only a 10% chance. My estimate is 30%. Clouds may already be kicking in, responsible for the negligible global warming of the past 12 years. Maybe, but we don’t know. That’s why we need luck. …”

“…Julian Lincoln Simon (February 12, 1932 – February 8, 1998)^[1] was a professor of business administration at the University of Maryland and a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute at the time of his death, after previously serving as a longtime business professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.^[2]

Simon wrote many books and articles, mostly on economic subjects. He is best known for his work on population, natural resources, and immigration. His work covers cornucopian views on lasting economic benefits from natural resources and continuous population growth, even despite limited or finite physical resources, empowered by human ingenuity, substitutes, and technological progress. His works are also cited by libertarians against government regulation.[citation needed] He died at the age of 65 of a heart attack Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Simon’s 1981 book The Ultimate Resource is a criticism of what was then the conventional wisdom on population growth, raw-material scarcity and resource consumption. Simon argues that our notions of increasing resource-scarcity ignore the long-term declines in wage-adjusted raw material prices. Viewed economically, he argues, increasing wealth and technology make more resources available; although supplies may be limited physically they may be viewed as economically indefinite as old resources are recycled and new alternatives are developed by the market. Simon challenged the notion of a pending Malthusian catastrophe—that an increase in population has negative economic consequences; that population is a drain on natural resources; and that we stand at risk of running out of resources through over-consumption. Simon argues that population is the solution to resource scarcities and environmental problems, since people and markets innovate. His ideas were praised by Nobel Laureate economists Friedrich Hayek^[3] and Milton Friedman, the latter in a 1998 foreword to The Ultimate Resource II, but they have also attracted critics such as Paul R. Ehrlich and Albert Bartlett.

Simon examined different raw materials, especially metals and their prices in historical times. Ehrlich offered Simon a set of 15 metrics over 10 years, victor to be determined by scientists chosen by the president of the NAS in 2005. There was no meeting of the minds, because Simon felt that too many of the metrics measured attributes of the world not directly related to human welfare, e.g. the amount of nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. Simon was one of the founders of free-market environmentalism. An article profiling Julian Simon in Wired magazine inspired Bjørn Lomborg to write the revisionist environmental book The Skeptical Environmentalist.

Simon was also the first to suggest that airlines should provide rewards for travelers to give up their seats on overbooked airlines rather than arbitrarily keep certain passengers off the plane.

Simon was an omnivorous reader, and took some steps toward writing a memoir. He died at the age of 66. …”

It’s A Wonderful Life

“…The weight of the facts that Simon brought to bear against the doomsayers was simply so overpoweringly compelling that I, like so many others, became a Julian Simon fanatic. Julian was the person who brought me to Washington in 1982 to work as his research assistant as he finished his next great book (coedited with the late futurist Herman Kahn of the Hudson Institute) titled The Resourceful Earth: A Response to Global 2000.

So for more than 15 years I was privileged to occupy a front-row seat from which I watched as Simon thoroughly and often single-handedly capsized the prevailing Malthusian orthodoxy. He routed nearly every prominent environmental scaremonger of our time: from the Club of Rome, to Paul Ehrlich, to Lester Brown, to Al Gore. (After reading Earth in the Balance, Julian was convinced that Gore was one of the most dangerous men and one of the shallowest thinkers in all of American politics.) Fig2.gif (3706 bytes)

Simon’s dozens of books and his more than 200 academic articles always brought to bear a vast arsenal of compelling data on and analysis of how life on earth was getting better, not worse. Simon argued that we were not running out of food, water, oil, trees, clean air, or any other natural resource because throughout the course of human history the price of natural resources had been declining. Falling long-term prices are prima facie evidence of greater abundance, not increasing scarcity. He showed that, over time, the environment had been getting cleaner, not dirtier. He showed that the “population bomb” was a result of a massive global reduction in infant mortality rates and a stunning increase in life expectancy. “If we place value on human life,” Simon argued, “then those trends are to be celebrated, not lamented.”

Simon’s central premise was that people are the ultimate resource. “Human beings,” he wrote, “are not just more mouths to feed, but are productive and inventive minds that help find creative solutions to man’s problems, thus leaving us better off over the long run.” As Ben Wattenberg of the American Enterprise Institute explained in his brilliant tribute to Simon in the Wall Street Journal, “Simon’s central point was that natural resources are not finite in any serious way; they are created by the intellect of man, an always renewable resource.” Julian often wondered why most governmental economic and social statistics treat people as if they are liabilities not assets. “Every time a calf is born,” he observed, “the per capita GDP of a nation rises. Every time a human baby is born, the per capita GDP falls.” Go figure!

The two trends that Simon believed best captured the long-term improvement in the human condition over the past 200 years were the increase in life expectancy and the decline in infant mortality (see figures). Those trends, Simon maintained, were the ultimate sign of man’s victory over death.

Today, many of Julian Simon’s views on population and natural resources are so triumphant that they are almost mainstream. No one can rationally look at the evidence today and still claim, for example, that we are running out of food or energy. But those who did not know Julian or of his writings in the 1970s and early 1980s cannot fully appreciate how viciously he was attacked—from both the left and the right. Paul Ehrlich once snarled that Simon’s writings proved that “the one thing the earth will never run out of is imbeciles.” A famous professor at the University of Wisconsin wrote, “Julian Simon could be dismissed as a simpleminded nut case, if his ideas weren’t so dangerous.” …”

“…On a seasonally adjusted basis, the January Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)

rose 0.2 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the index

increased 2.6 percent before seasonal adjustment.

The seasonally adjusted increase in the all items index was due to a rise in the energy index. An increase

in the gasoline index was the main factor, and the indexes for fuel oil and natural gas rose as well,

though the electricity index declined.

The index for all items less food and energy fell 0.1 percent in January. This decline was largely the

result of decreases in the indexes for shelter, new vehicles, and airline fares. In contrast, the medical care

index posted its largest increase since January 2008, and the index for used cars and trucks increased

significantly for the sixth month in a row.

The food index increased in January, with the food at home component posting its largest increase since

September 2008. Sharp increases in the indexes for dairy and related products and for fruits and

vegetables accounted for most of the increase. …”

The food index rose 0.2 percent in January. The food at home index increased 0.4 percent, with four of

percent in January, but still has declined over the past 12 months. The index for fruits and vegetables

increased 1.3 percent due to a 2.8 percent increase in the index for fresh fruits. The index for meats,

poultry, fish, and eggs rose 0.4 percent and the index for nonalcoholic beverages advanced 0.2 percent.

The indexes for cereals and bakery products declined in January, falling 0.5 percent, and the index for

other food at home declined 0.3 percent. The index for food away from home increased 0.1 percent in

January. Over the last 12 months, the food index has declined 0.4 percent with the food at home index

down 2.0 percent and the index for food away from home up 1.6 percent.

Energy

The energy index rose 2.8 percent in January, its ninth consecutive increase. The index for energy

commodities increased 4.9 percent, with the gasoline index rising 4.4 percent. The index for household

energy rose 0.5 percent in January. The fuel oil index increased 6.1 percent and the index for natural gas

rose 3.5 percent, while the electricity index declined 1.1 percent. Over the past 12 months, the energy

index has risen 19.1 percent, with the gasoline index up 51.3 percent but the index for household energy

down 3.5 percent.

The index for all items less food and energy declined 0.1 percent in January after rising 0.1 percent in

December. The shelter index declined 0.5 percent. The index for lodging away from home fell 2.1

percent, while the rent index was unchanged and the index for owners’ equivalent rent declined 0.1

percent. The index for new vehicles fell 0.5 percent, its second consecutive decline, and the index for

airline fares turned down in January, falling 2.5 percent after increasing in each of the past six months.

The indexes for household furnishings and operations, for apparel, and for recreation all decreased 0.1

percent in January. In contrast, the medical care index rose 0.5 percent. The index for medical care

commodities rose 0.7 percent and the medical care services index advanced 0.5 percent. Also increasing

was the index for used cars and trucks, which rose 1.5 percent in January and has increased 12.9 percent

over the past six months. The index for all items less food and energy has risen 1.6 percent over the past

12 months.

Not seasonally adjusted CPI measures

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 2.6 percent over the last 12

months to an index level of 216.687 (1982-84=100). For the month, the index increased 0.3 percent prior

to seasonal adjustment.

The Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) increased 3.3 percent

over the last 12 months to an index level of 212.568 (1982-84=100). For the month, the index increased

0.4 percent prior to seasonal adjustment. …”

This increase followed a 0.4-percent advance in December and a 1.5-percent rise in November. In January, at the earlier stages of processing, prices received by manufacturers of intermediate goods climbed 1.7 percent, and the crude goods index jumped 9.6 percent. On an unadjusted basis, prices for finished goods moved up 4.6 percent for the 12 months ended January 2010, their third consecutive 12-month increase. (See table A.)

Exploding Inflation & Higher Interest Rates Coming



“…It’s been forecast by everyone but those beating the Obama Democratic drums. Even today, many pundits were saying that inflation wasn’t going to be much of a concern but then Thursday afternoon, Ben Bernanke & Boys raised the Discount Rate from .50% to .75%! This is the opening salvo of interest rates that might have to reach DOUBLE DIGITS to contain the massive printing of money that’s been going on.

The Federal Reserve decided Thursday to boost the rate banks pay for emergency loans. The action is part of a broader move to pull back the extraordinary aid it provided to fight the worst financial and economic crisis since the 1930s. The move won’t directly affect borrowing costs for millions of Americans. But with the worst of the financial crisis over, it brings the Fed’s main crisis lending program closer to normal.

The Fed decided to bump up the so-called “discount” lending rate by one-quarter point to 0.75 percent. The increase takes effect Friday.

The central bank said the action should not be viewed as a signal that it will soon boost interest rates for consumers and businesses. Want to bet? Record-low borrowing costs near zero are still needed to foster the recovery, it said. The Fed repeated its pledge to keep interest rates at “exceptionally low” levels for an “extended period.” But with unemployment still near double digits, and demand for loans remains weak, many ordinary Americans and small businesses have found it difficult to borrow. …”

President Obama’s number one priority after the defense of the country should be how the government can assist private enterprise or businesses to create wealth, income and jobs for the thirty million American citizens seeking full time employment.

Instead, President Obama failed to lead.

He first focused his attention on a so-called stimulus spending bill which in reality was a political payoff bill loaded with programs, projects and grants for those who supported the progressive radical socialist Democratic Party agenda.

Then the President focused on Health Insurance Reform that the majority of Americans opposed when they learned what was in the proposed bills–forcing Americans to purchase a Government qualified and mandated health insurance plan.

As a result instead of the unemployment rate remaining under 8% with the stimulus package as forecasted, the official unemployment rate rose to over 10% and has only slightly declined to 9.7%.

Most economist expect the official unemployment rate to remain in double digits until 2011 at the earliest. This means that a minimum of fifteen million people are looking for a full time job. Unfortunately, the official U-3 measure of the unemployment rate significantly understates the real unemployment rate and number of unemployed, which is over 17% and represents over 26 million Americans seeking a full time job.

Many Americans are working part-time while they try to find a full-time 40 hours per week job. There are now over 30 million Americans that are seeking full time employment.

A reality check is the number of Americans receiving food stamps or more accurately enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, which will soon exceed 40 million Americans. Forty million Americans on food stamps again understates the number of people needing such assistance. Both state and Federal governments have made it more difficult to enroll in SNAP. There is at least another 10 to 15 million that would qualify but have given up on food stamps or a SNAP card once that see all the paperwork involved.

While the unemployed and their children go hungry waiting for the approval of their SNAP card to purchase food, President Obama proclaims the success of his stimulus spending package.

Give me a break.

Suggest President Obama take his stimulus packages, cap and trade energy taxes, and health care tax proposals and dump them.

The American people want good paying jobs so they can feed, clothe, and shelter their families.

The American people do not want higher taxes that impact business owners resulting in fewer jobs and more job layoffs.

The American people do not want to depend on the Federal Government for food stamps or a SNAP card to pay for food.

The American people will vote out of office the progressive radical socialists of both political parties come November.

Shape up Mr. President, otherwise the American people will ship you and your cronies out of office.

Senator and Doctor Tom Coburn is one of the few Senators that the American people respect and trust.

Unfortunatley for every Senator Coburn in the Senate there are three Democrats and Republican progressive radical socialists that oppose Senator Coburn.

“…The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)—formerly the Food Stamp Program—is a central component of American policy to alleviate hunger and poverty. The program’s main purpose is “to permit low-income households to obtain a more nutritious diet…by increasing their purchasing power” (Food and Nutrition Act of 2008). SNAP is the largest of the domestic food and nutrition assistance programs administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service. During fiscal year 2009, the program served 33 million people in an average month at a total annual cost of over $50 billion in benefits.

The Government Performance and Results Act of 1993 calls for policymakers to assess the effects of programs, and one important measure of a program’s performance is its ability to reach its target population. The national SNAP participation rate—the percentage of eligible people in the United States who actually participate in the program—has been a standard for assessing performance for about 25 years. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s budget request for fiscal year 2010 includes a performance target to reach 68 percent of the eligible population in that year.

SNAP provides an important support for the “working poor”—people who are eligible for SNAP benefits and live in households in which someone earns income from a job. Twenty-eight million people received benefits in an average month in 2008. Eleven million—40 percent—lived in households that had income from earnings, up from 30 percent of all participants in 1996, the year in which more emphasis was placed on work for public assistance recipients through the enactment of the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act.

Recent studies have examined national participation rates as well as participation rates for socioeconomic and demographic subgroups (Leftin and Wolkwitz 2009), and State rates for all eligible people and for the working poor (Cunnyngham, Castner, and Schirm 2008). This document presents estimates of SNAP participation rates for all eligible people and for the working poor by States for fiscal year 2007. These estimates can be used to assess recent program performance and focus efforts to improve performance. ..”

“… A record 38.2 million Americans were enrolled in the food stamp program at latest count, up 246,000 from the previous month and the latest in record-high monthly tallies that began in December 2008.

Food stamps are the primary federal anti-hunger program, helping poor people buy groceries. The Agriculture Department updated enrollment data on Friday with a preliminary figure for November.

USDA estimates up to $58 billion will be spent on food stamps this fiscal year, which ends Sept 30, with average enrollment of 40.5 million people. Food stamps were renamed the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program in 2008.

Participation has surged since the financial-market turmoil of late 2008 and has set records each month since December 2008, when it reached 31.78 million. Enrollment is highest during times of economic distress. …”

A Record Number Of Americans Turn To Food Stamps As America Is Gripped By Economic Despair

“…Would you ever accept government welfare? Would you look down on someone who does? Well, if you would look down on a fellow American who receives food stamps then get ready to look down on a massive sea of people. The truth is that over 37 million Americans now receive food stamps, and the program is expanding at a pace of about 20,000 people a day. As hordes of Americans have been forced out of their jobs and their homes, millions are finding that the only way they can make it is to accept food stamps. For many it is a tremendously humbling moment to turn to the government for help, and for so many millions to be dependent on the food stamps program is yet another indication of how deep the economic despair in America has gotten.

Most of the time you won’t even notice them being used at the checkout counters. Today food stamps take the form of inconspicuous plastic cards and they can be used to purchase a wide variety of food items. A record 37.2 million people, which is approximately one out of every eight Americans, received food stamps in September, and that number is growing rapidly.

In particular, children are being enrolled in this program in staggering numbers.

One out of every four children in America now gets assistance from food stamps each month. In fact, it is projected that half of all U.S. kids will be on food stamps at some point in their lives. …”

More and more corporations are beginning to see the writing on the wall that the global warming alarmists were following a political driven agenda largely supported by the junk science of computer based climate models.

Both investors and their customers are increasing not believing the so-called climate crisis crowd and investment con men.

Stockholders may be asking the top management of corporations about their legal liabilities of promoting the investment and science fraud of global warming.

The last thing executives want to look like is a group of babbling boobs that fell for the global warming con game.

“…Three big companies quit an influential lobbying group that had focused on shaping climate-change legislation, in the latest sign that support for an ambitious bill is melting away.

BP PLC and two other major firms quit a lobbying group focused on shaping global-warming policy.

Several companies are quitting an influential lobbying group focusing in on legislation, despite the administratin’s push to use the budget to pass greenhouse gas legistlation. WSJ’s Grainne McCarthy reports in the News Hub.

Oil giants BP PLC and ConocoPhillips and heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. said Tuesday they won’t renew their membership in the three-year-old U.S. Climate Action Partnership, a broad business-environmental coalition that had been instrumental in building support in Washington for capping emissions of greenhouse gases.

The move comes as debate over climate change intensifies and concerns mount about the cost of capping greenhouse-gas emissions.

On a range of issues, from climate change to health care, skepticism is growing in Washington that Congress will pass any major legislation in a contentious election year in which Republicans are expected to gain seats. For companies, the shifting winds have reduced pressure to find common ground, leading them to pursue their own, sometimes conflicting interests. …”

47% Blame Global Warming on Planetary Trends

“…Questions continue to mount over the science behind years of studies that say humans are chiefly to blame for global warming. But reflecting a trend that has been going on for more than a year, just 35% of U.S. voters now believe global warming is caused primarily by human activity.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 47% think long-term planetary trends are mostly to blame, down three points from the previous survey in January. Eight percent say there is some other reason, and 10% aren’t sure.

But 56% say President Obama still believes that human activity is the main cause of global warming. That’s the highest finding on that question since last March.The president went to a United Nations summit in Copenhagen in December in hopes of reaching an international agreement that would limit human activities that some scientists say contribute to global warming.

Belief that human activity is the primary cause of global warming has declined significantly. In April 2008, the numbers were nearly the mirror image of the current numbers. At that time, 47% blamed human activity and only 34% named long term planetary trends as the reason for climate change.

Since July, the number who believe long-term planetary trends are the chief culprit have ranged from 47% to 50%. Those who blame human activity have ranged from 34% to 42% in the same period. …”

“…The theory of manmade climate change has been rocked for several months by a series of scandals. Emails released as part of the “Climategate” scandal raised serious allegations of efforts by advocates of manmade climate-change theory to skew data and to suppress studies that undermined the theory. Then allegations were made against NASA charging that the space agency was dragging its heels on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for release of their climate-change data.

The climate-change theory was dealt another serious blow when the “Glaciergate” scandal further undermined the credibility of studies published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). With IPCC estimates for the melting of the Himalayan glaciers resting on unbelievably weak scientific premises, IPCC chairman Rajendra Pachauri has faced calls for his resignation. The Glaciergate scandal has even led the Indian government to withdraw from the IPCC and found its own agency to investigate climate change.

A new scandal is now emerging that fundamentally challenges the accuracy of climate-change data provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. According to an article at FOXNews.com:

But probably the most damaging report has come from Joseph D’Aleo, the first Director of Meteorology and co-founder of the Weather Channel, and Anthony Watts, a meteorologist and founder of SurfaceStations.org.
In a January 29 report, they find that starting in 1990, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) began systematically eliminating climate measuring stations in cooler locations around the world. Yes, that’s right. They began eliminating stations that tended to record cooler temperatures and drove up the average measured temperature. The eliminated stations had been in higher latitudes and altitudes, inland areas away from the sea, as well as more rural locations. The drop in the number of weather stations was dramatic, declining from more than 6,000 stations to fewer than 1,500.

D’Aleo and Watts show that the jumps in measured global temperature occur just when the number of weather stations is cut. But there is another bias that this change to more urban stations also exacerbates. Recorded temperatures in more urban areas rise over time simply because more densely populated areas produce more heat. Combining the greater share of weather stations in more urban areas over time with this urban heat effect also tends to increase the rate that recorded temperatures tend to rise over time.

Their report provides examples of how the systematic elimination of stations and unexplained adjustments in temperature data caused measured temperatures to rise for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Norway, Sweden, and the United States. Many adjustments change what would have been a drop in temperatures into an increase. Take New Zealand, where D’Aleo and Watts note: “About half the adjustments actually created a warming trend where none existed; the other half greatly exaggerated existing warming.” …”

He is an Emmy Award-winning producer and writer for the NBC series The West Wing and creator and executive producer of the NBC series, Mister Sterling. He appears as a recurring supporting character on the HBO series Big Love, portraying an attorney. He also frequently fills in for Keith Olbermann, hosting the Countdown with Keith Olbermann news commentary show on MSNBC when Olbermann is absent.

Personal life
O’Donnell was born in Boston on November 7, 1955; the son of Frances Marie (née Buckley), an office manager, and Lawrence Francis O’Donnell, Sr., an attorney.[1] He graduated from Harvard University in 1976.[citation needed] In 1994, O’Donnell married television and movie actress Kathryn Harrold, best known for playing movie legend Lauren Bacall in the 1980 made-for-TV movie Bogie.

Career
O’Donnell is widely known as an outspoken television political commentator, and was the Democratic Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Finance from 1993 through 1995. In 1992, he was Chief of Staff of the United States Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

O’Donnell made himself a key figure in the coverage of the Valerie Plame scandal by naming Karl Rove as the primary source for Matt Cooper’s story. He is well known for his strong dislike of California’s current governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. He calls himself a “practical European socialist.”[2] His aggressive debate style has led to several notable on-air confrontations. In October 2004, while a guest on the MSNBC show Scarborough Country, O’Donnell shouted “liar” over and over again at fellow guest Swift Boat Spokesman John O’Neill.[3][4] In May 2005, while serving as a guest panelist the CNBC program Dennis Miller, O’Donnell began shouting at fellow panelist Cathy Seipp on the issue of public education and teachers. In August 2009, while guest hosting MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews, O’Donnell accused Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas) of lying about health care reform proposals and of hypocrisy for opposing government-run health care while failing to call for the repeal of Medicare and Social Security.[5]

During an episode of The McLaughlin Group in December 2007, during a discussion of Mitt Romney’s “Faith In America” speech, O’Donnell voiced criticisms of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that garnered a great deal of media attention. O’Donnell continued his comments about Mitt Romney and Mormonism during an in-depth interview with radio talk show host Hugh Hewitt, wherein he criticized other religions including his own Catholic faith, Martin E. Marty, professor of religious history at the University of Chicago, said of O’Donnell’s comments, “criticism is one thing; hate-speech and untruths are another.”[6]

In 2009, O’Donnell has been a regular contributor on Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough.

The Climate Science Isn’t Settled

Confident predictions of catastrophe are unwarranted.

“…Is there a reason to be alarmed by the prospect of global warming? Consider that the measurement used, the globally averaged temperature anomaly (GATA), is always changing. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes down, and occasionally—such as for the last dozen years or so—it does little that can be discerned.

Claims that climate change is accelerating are bizarre. There is general support for the assertion that GATA has increased about 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since the middle of the 19th century. The quality of the data is poor, though, and because the changes are small, it is easy to nudge such data a few tenths of a degree in any direction. Several of the emails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (CRU) that have caused such a public ruckus dealt with how to do this so as to maximize apparent changes.

The general support for warming is based not so much on the quality of the data, but rather on the fact that there was a little ice age from about the 15th to the 19th century. Thus it is not surprising that temperatures should increase as we emerged from this episode. At the same time that we were emerging from the little ice age, the industrial era began, and this was accompanied by increasing emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO2, methane and nitrous oxide. CO2 is the most prominent of these, and it is again generally accepted that it has increased by about 30%.

The defining characteristic of a greenhouse gas is that it is relatively transparent to visible light from the sun but can absorb portions of thermal radiation. In general, the earth balances the incoming solar radiation by emitting thermal radiation, and the presence of greenhouse substances inhibits cooling by thermal radiation and leads to some warming.

That said, the main greenhouse substances in the earth’s atmosphere are water vapor and high clouds. Let’s refer to these as major greenhouse substances to distinguish them from the anthropogenic minor substances. Even a doubling of CO2 would only upset the original balance between incoming and outgoing radiation by about 2%. This is essentially what is called “climate forcing.”

There is general agreement on the above findings. At this point there is no basis for alarm regardless of whether any relation between the observed warming and the observed increase in minor greenhouse gases can be established. Nevertheless, the most publicized claims of the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) deal exactly with whether any relation can be discerned. The failure of the attempts to link the two over the past 20 years bespeaks the weakness of any case for concern. …”

Global Warming: The Origin and Nature of the Alleged Scientific Consensus

“…As Aaron Wildavsky, professor of political science at Berkeley, has quipped, “global warming” is the mother of all environmental scares. Wildavsky’s view is worth quoting. “Warming (and warming alone), through its primary antidote of withdrawing carbon from production and consumption, is capable of realizing the environmentalist’s dream of an egalitarian society based on rejection of economic growth in favor of a smaller population’s eating lower on the food chain, consuming a lot less, and sharing a much lower level of resources much more equally.” In many ways Wildavsky’s observation does not go far enough. The point is that carbon dioxide is vitally central to industry, transportation, modern life, and life in general. It has been joked that carbon dioxide controls would permit us to inhale as much as we wish; only exhaling would be controlled. The remarkable centrality of carbon dioxide means that dealing with the threat of warming fits in with a great variety of preexisting agendas–some legitimate, some less so: energy efficiency, reduced dependence on Middle Eastern oil, dissatisfaction with industrial society (neopastoralism), international competition, governmental desires for enhanced revenues (carbon taxes), and bureaucratic desires for enhanced power.

The very scale of the problem as popularly portrayed and the massive scale of the suggested responses have their own appeal. The Working Group I report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change suggested, for example, that a 60 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions might be needed. Such a reduction would call for measures that would be greater than those that have been devoted to war and defense. And just as defense has dealt with saving one’s nation, curbing “global warming” is identified with saving the whole planet! It may not be fortuitous that this issue is being promoted at just the moment in history when the cold war is ending.

Major agencies in the United States, hitherto closely involved with traditional approaches to national security, have appropriated the issue of climate change to support existing efforts. Notable among those agencies are NASA, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Energy. The cold war helped spawn a large body of policy experts and diplomats specializing in issues such as disarmament and alliance negotiations. In addition, since the Yom Kippur War, energy has become a major component of national security with the concomitant creation of a large cadre of energy experts. Many of those individuals see in the global change issue an area in which to continue applying their skills. Many scientists also feel that national security concerns formed the foundation for the U.S. government’s generous support of science. As the urgency of national security, traditionally defined, diminishes, there is a common feeling that a substitute foundation must be established. “Saving the planet” has the right sort of sound to it. Fundraising has become central to environmental advocates’ activities, and the message underlying some of their fundraising seems to be “pay us or you’ll fry.”

Clearly, “global warming” is a tempting issue for many very important groups to exploit. Equally clearly, though far less frequently discussed, are the profound dangers in exploiting that issue. As we shall also see, there are good reasons why there has been so little discussion of the downside of responding to “global warming.” …”

Global Warming Fraud and the Future of Science

“…The climatology story is no different. Environmentalist Greens needed a threat — one that menaced not only technological civilization, but life on earth itself. They have promoted an endless parade of such threats since the 1960s — overpopulation, pollution, runaway nuclear power, and global cooling — only to see them shrivel like old balloons. They required a menace that was overwhelming, long-term, and not easily disproven. With global warming, the climatologists gave them one. In exchange for sky-high funding, millennial scientists — the heirs of Bacon, Copernicus, and Einstein, men who bled and suffered for the sake of their work — continually inflated the nature and extent of the CO2 threat by using the sleaziest methods available, as we now know. The result has been complete intellectual degradation.

Scientists were once among the most trusted figures in Western public life — similar to bankers, priests, and doctors, but in a real sense, standing above them all. Scientists were honored as truth-tellers, aware that their reputation for veracity and seriousness was their only real asset. And while exceptions existed (read the story of Blondlot and his N-rays, for one example), the public took them at their own valuation.

That has ended. The concept of unblemished scientific integrity is now one with the scholastic monasteries and the academy at Athens. Scientists today are well on their way to becoming an amalgam of the cheap politician and the three-card monte dealer. They are viewed by the less educated as a privileged class making alarming and impudent claims for their own benefit. The better-informed find ourselves in the uncomfortable position of being unable to defend something we once admired.

The next set of questions in physics cannot be answered without equipment costing billions at the very least, and possibly much more. Will a disbelieving public pay for that? We are facing serious dilemmas concerning breakthroughs in biology, not only in stem-cell technology, but also in neurology and synthetic biology — breakthroughs that threaten to distort the very nature of humanity itself. Should we leave the solutions up to people who want us to pick a card, any card?

The collaboration between science and democracy is one of the great achievements of human history. It is now threatened by the behavior of people at the very heart of that collaboration. If it is destroyed, a treasure of unparalleled value will have vanished. This treasure will be nearly impossible to replace. If the Western world wishes to continue its magnificent upward journey, then we have to save science from itself. An errant and corrupt climatology is the place to start….”

World Economic Forum

“…The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Geneva-based non-profit foundation best known for its annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, which brings together top business leaders, international political leaders, selected intellectuals and journalists to discuss the most pressing issues facing the world, including health and the environment. Beside meetings, the WEF produces a series of research reports and engages its members in sector specific initiatives.^[1] WEF also organizes the “Annual Meeting of the New Champions” in China and a series of regional meetings throughout the year. In 2008 those regional meetings included meetings on Europe and Central Asia, East Asia, the Russia CEO Roundtable, Africa, the Middle East, and the World Economic Forum on Latin America. In 2008 it launched the “Summit on the Global Agenda” in Dubai.

The WEF was founded in 1971 by Klaus Martin Schwab, a German-born business professor at the University of Geneva.^[2] Originally named the European Management Forum, it changed its name to the World Economic Forum in 1987 and sought to broaden its vision further to include providing a platform for resolving international conflicts.

In the summer of 1971 Schwab invited 444 executives from Western European firms to the first European Management Symposium held in the Davos Congress Centre under the patronage of the European Commission and European industrial associations, where Schwab sought to introduce European firms to US management practices. He then founded the WEF as a non-profit organization based in Geneva and drew European business leaders to Davos for their annual meetings each January.^[3]

Schwab developed the “stakeholder” management approach which based corporate success on managers taking account of all interests: not merely shareholders, clients and customers, but employees and the communities within which the firm is situated, including governments.^[4] Events in 1973 including the collapse of the Bretton Woods fixed exchange rate mechanism and the Arab-Israeli War saw the annual meeting expand its focus from management to economic and social issues, and political leaders were invited for the first time to Davos in January 1974.^[5]

As the years went by, political leaders began to use Davos as a neutral platform to resolve their differences. The Davos Declaration was signed in 1988 by Greece and Turkey, helping them turn back from the brink of war. In 1992 South African President F. W. de Klerk met with Nelson Mandela and Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi at the Annual Meeting, their first joint appearance outside South Africa. “…Richard Siegmund Lindzen (born February 8, 1940, Webster, Massachusetts) is an American atmospheric physicist and Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Lindzen is known for his work in the dynamics of the middle atmosphere, atmospheric tides and ozone photochemistry. He has published more than 200 books and scientific papers.^[1] He was a lead author of Chapter 7, ‘Physical Climate Processes and Feedbacks,’ of the IPCC Third Assessment Report on climate change. He has been a critic of some global warming theories and what he states are political pressures on climate scientists.

Lindzen has published papers on Hadley circulation, monsoon meteorology, planetary atmospheres, hydrodynamic instability, mid-latitude weather, global heat transport, the water cycle, ice ages, seasonal atmospheric effects and has proposed the iris hypothesis in 2001, with co-authors Ming-Dah Chou and Arthur Y. Hou.^[2]^[3] He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the Science, Health, and Economic Advisory Council at the Annapolis Center for Science-Based Public Policy. Educated at Harvard University (Ph.D., ’64, S.M., ’61, A.B., ’60), he moved to MIT in 1983, prior to which he held positions at the University of Washington (1964–1965), Institute for Theoretical Meteorology, University of Oslo (1965–1966), National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) (1966–1967), University of Chicago (1968–1972) and Harvard University (1972–1983). He also briefly held a position of Visiting Lecturer at UCLA in 1967.^[4] Lindzen is an ISI highly cited researcher.^[5] As of January 2010, his publications list included 230 papers and articles published between 1965 and 2008, with five in process for 2009.^[6]

Lindzen is a recipient of the American Meteorological Society’s Meisinger and Charney Awards, American Geophysical Union’s Macelwane Medal, and the Leo Prize from the Wallin Foundation in Goteborg, Sweden. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), and the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Letters, and was named Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences, the American Geophysical Union, and the American Meteorological Society. Spencer is a principal research scientist for the University of Alabama in Huntsville and the U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) on NASA’s Aqua satellite. He has served as senior scientist for climate studies at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

He is principally known for his satellite-based temperature monitoring work, for which he was awarded the American Meteorological Society’s Special Award. Based on the satellite evidence, Spencer suggests that climate sensitivity is lower than is currently believed, and that natural, chaotic variations in low cloud cover may account for most global warming.^[1]^[2] The dominant scientific opinion on climate change is that human activity is primarily responsible for global warming.

Spencer is a proponent of intelligent design, and rejects evolution as the mechanism for the origin of species.^[3]

Spencer earned a B.S. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Michigan in 1978 and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1980 and 1982.^[4] Spencer designed an algorithm to detect tropical cyclones and estimate their maximum sustained wind speed using the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU) at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.^[5] The AMSU is a microwave radiometer that can be used to detect temperature at different levels of the atmosphere. Based on gradients in temperature measurements in a given area, it is possible to estimate maximal sustained radial wind speed.^[6]

He publicly promotes his ideas on intelligent design^[7] and the weather, including four appearances on Coast to Coast AM.^[8]

Climate change research

In August, 2007, Spencer and others published an article in Geophysical Research Letters regarding cloud feedback in the tropics.^[9] Current understanding of the climate system predicts that an increase in high-level, heat trapping clouds will accelerate global warming. Spencer’s observations in the tropics found a negative feedback (though this was on a different time scale than climate models), and a lower climate sensitivity than the current consensus. Spencer and colleagues state that the negative feedback possibly supports Richard Lindzen’s Infrared Iris hypothesis of compensating meteorological processes that tend to stabilize climate change.^[10]

In a subsequent press release, Spencer said, “To give an idea of how strong this enhanced cooling mechanism is, if it was operating on global warming, it would reduce estimates of future warming by over 75 percent… The big question that no one can answer right now is whether this enhanced cooling mechanism applies to global warming.” ^[11]

In 2008, Spencer and a colleague published a paper in the Journal of Climate which stated that conventional diagnoses of positive cloud feedback are artificially biased positive, because they ignore natural cloud variability.^[12] Climate model analyses treat decreasing cloud cover as an evidence of positive feedback of atmosphere to initial CO2 induced warming, while it easily could be the other way around: the real cause of warming could be small naturally caused variations in cloud cover with rising temperatures as a result. Spencer postulates strong negative cloud feedback, contrary to what the current IPCC climate models use. He points out that the IPCC concedes that low clouds are the most uncertain element in climate models, and that a 1% change in low cloud cover could have radiative forcing equal to doubling of CO2. In a new analysis, Spencer asserts that small cloud variations connected with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation can explain 75% of global warming in the twentieth century.^[13]

“…Siegfried Frederick Singer (born 27 September 1924 in Vienna) is an American atmospheric physicist. Singer is Professor Emeritus of environmental science at the University of Virginia,^[1] specializing in planetary science, global warming, ozone depletion, and other global environmental issues.

In the 1960s Singer was a leading figure in the early development of earth observation satellites, becoming a Special Advisor on space developments to President Eisenhower and establishing the National Weather Bureau’s Satellite Service Center as well as becoming its first Director (1962-64). He has subsequently held a variety of academic and government positions, including Professor of environmental science at the University of Virginia (1971-94).

In the 1980s and 1990s Singer became associated in the public eye with a number of controversial issues, notably on global warming, on which he opposes the mainstream scientific opinion on climate change. In 1990 he started the Science & Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit research institute, where he remains as its President.

Singer received a B.E.E in Electrical engineering from Ohio State University in 1943; an A.M. in physics from Princeton in 1944; and a Ph.D in physics from Princeton in 1948.^[1] He received an honorary Doctorate of Science from Ohio State University in 1970.^[2]

In the 1940s and 50s Singer designed the first instruments used in satellites to measure cosmic radiation and ozone.^[1] He invented the backscatter photometer ozone-monitoring instrument for early versions of US weather satellites.^[3]^[4]^[5] By the early 1960s he was a leading figure in the early development of earth observation satellites, becoming a Special Advisor on space developments to President Eisenhower and establishing and becoming the first Director of the National Weather Bureau’s Satellite Service Center (1962-64). He was recognised by President Eisenhower for his contribution to the early design of satellites, receiving a Special Commendation. Upon stepping down as the first Director of the National Weather Bureau’s Satellite Service Center he also received a U.S. Department of Commerce Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Federal Service.^[2]^[6]^[7]^[7]

The Climate Science Isn’t Settled

Confident predictions of catastrophe are unwarranted.

“…It is generally accepted that a doubling of CO2 will only produce a change of about two degrees Fahrenheit if all else is held constant. This is unlikely to be much to worry about.

Yet current climate models predict much higher sensitivities. They do so because in these models, the main greenhouse substances (water vapor and clouds) act to amplify anything that CO2 does. This is referred to as positive feedback. But as the IPCC notes, clouds continue to be a source of major uncertainty in current models. Since clouds and water vapor are intimately related, the IPCC claim that they are more confident about water vapor is quite implausible.

There is some evidence of a positive feedback effect for water vapor in cloud-free regions, but a major part of any water-vapor feedback would have to acknowledge that cloud-free areas are always changing, and this remains an unknown. At this point, few scientists would argue that the science is settled. In particular, the question remains as to whether water vapor and clouds have positive or negative feedbacks.

The notion that the earth’s climate is dominated by positive feedbacks is intuitively implausible, and the history of the earth’s climate offers some guidance on this matter. About 2.5 billion years ago, the sun was 20%-30% less bright than now (compare this with the 2% perturbation that a doubling of CO2 would produce), and yet the evidence is that the oceans were unfrozen at the time, and that temperatures might not have been very different from today’s. Carl Sagan in the 1970s referred to this as the “Early Faint Sun Paradox.”

For more than 30 years there have been attempts to resolve the paradox with greenhouse gases. Some have suggested CO2—but the amount needed was thousands of times greater than present levels and incompatible with geological evidence. Methane also proved unlikely. It turns out that increased thin cirrus cloud coverage in the tropics readily resolves the paradox—but only if the clouds constitute a negative feedback. In present terms this means that they would diminish rather than enhance the impact of CO2. …”
