President Obama has a well deserved reputation for being a habitual liar.

The American people and West Point cadets do not tolerate liars very well.

What must the cadets and American people be thinking as they listen to the President explain his strategy and course of action in Afghanistan for the second time!

Will they even believe a word he says?

The vast majority of the American people no longer believe or trust President Obama.

I suspect the speech will not be about victory in Afghanistan, but a set of milestones or a timetable for orderly withdrawal within three years or less.

The President can call it an exit strategy, an off ramp, or strategic withdrawal in Afghanistan, the American people will call it retreat and defeat, Obama R&D!

If it is, then the time has come to pull all the troops out of Afghanistan now.

There is no substitute for victory over the Taliban, al-Qaida, and their allies in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Obama’s speech will be compared to other important speeches about war and peace.

Two come immediately to mind.

One was given by then Secretary of State George C. Marshall at Harvard University on June 5, 1947 that lead to the Marshall Plan:

The irony is that General MacArthur was fired by President Truman for insubordination.

George C. Marshall after reviewing MacArthur’s statements agreed with President Truman that General MacArthur should have been fired even earlier.

“If we lose the war to Communism in Asia the fall of Europe is inevitable, win it and Europe most probably would avoid war and yet preserve freedom…. There is no substitute for victory.”

General MacArthur ended his military career with a Farwell speech to the Congress that concluded with these words:

“…I have just left your fighting sons in Korea. They have met all tests there, and I can report to you without reservation that they are splendid in every way.

It was my constant effort to preserve them and end this savage conflict honorably and with the least loss of time and a minimum sacrifice of life. Its growing bloodshed has caused me the deepest anguish and anxiety.

Those gallant men will remain often in my thoughts and in my prayers always.

I am closing my 52 years of military service. When I joined the Army, even before the turn of the century, it was the fulfillment of all of my boyish hopes and dreams. The world has turned over many times since I took the oath on the plain at West Point, and the hopes and dreams have long since vanished, but I still remember the refrain of one of the most popular barrack ballads of that day which proclaimed most proudly that “old soldiers never die; they just fade away.”

And like the old soldier of that ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.

Even with a teleprompter, I seriously doubt that President Obama’s speech will have the impact of either the General Marshall or General MacArthur speech.

I am afraid President Obama’s speech will only embolden those who attacked America on September 11, 2001 and their allies the Taliban.

He will apologize many times more for America, appease our enemies and read his way out of the hearts and minds of the American people.

President Obama will not fade away.

The American people want justice for those killed on September 11, 2001.

“…The Taliban (Pashto: طالبان ṭālibān, meaning “students”), also Taleban, is a radical Sunni Islamist movement that governed Afghanistan from 1996 until late 2001, when all of its members were removed from power by NATO forces during Operation Enduring Freedom. It has regrouped since 2004 and revived as a strong insurgency movement governing at the local level and fighting a guerrilla war against the governments of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).^[4] The movement is made up of members belonging to different ethnic Pashtun tribes,^[5] along with a number of volunteers from nearby Islamic countries such as Uzbeks, Tajiks, Chechens, Arabs, Punjabis and others.^[6]^[7]^[8] They operate in Afghanistan and the Frontier Tribal Areas of Pakistan, mainly around the Durand Line border.^[9]

The Taliban movement is headed by Mullah Mohammed Omar, who is still in hiding. Mullah Omar’s original commanders were “a mixture of former small-unit military commanders and madrasah teachers,”^[10] and the rank and file made up mostly of Afghan refugees who had studied at Islamic religious schools in Pakistan. The Taliban received valuable training, supplies and arms from the Pakistani government, particularly the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),^[11] and many recruits from madrasahs for Afghan refugees in Pakistan, primarily ones established by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).^[12]

Although in control of Afghanistan’s capital (Kabul) and much or most of the country for five years, the Taliban regime, which called itself the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan”, gained diplomatic recognition from only three states: Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. It has gained some amount of political control and acceptance in Pakistan’s border region, but recently lost one of its key leaders, Baitullah Mehsud, in a CIA assassination.^[13]

The Taliban is today classified by security analysts as an “alternative government” in Afghanistan. It operates fifteen Sharia law courts in the country’s southern provinces handling civil and commercial cases and collects taxes on harvests in farming areas. The Taliban implemented one of the “strictest interpretation[s] of Sharia law ever seen in the Muslim world”, yet still occasionally updates its code of conduct.^[14] In mid-2009, it established an ombudsman office in northern Kandahar, which has been described as a “direct challenge” to the ISAF.^[15] …”

MacArthur, a former Army chief of staff, Medal of Honor winner, had commanded the Southwest Pacific Theatre in World War II, accepted Japan’s surrender, and oversaw that country’s occupation in the postwar years. When the Korean War broke out, MacArthur was put in command of United Nations forces against the North. MacArthur had mixed sometimes brilliant military strategy with public pronouncements that often bordered on (or flat out were) insubordination, issuing his own foreign policy dictates and trying to push the United States into a broader war with Red China.

Matters came to a head on April 5, 1951. House Minority Leader Joe Martin read a letter he had received weeks earlier from MacArthur discussing the situation in Asia. “Virtually all that he said was bound to provoke Truman,” the historian David McCullough later wrote. Climate is always changing. We have had ice ages and warmer periods when alligators were found in Spitzbergen. Ice ages have occurred in a hundred thousand year cycle for the last 700 thousand years, and there have been previous periods that appear to have been warmer than the present despite CO2 levels being lower than they are now. More recently, we have had the medieval warm period and the little ice age. During the latter, alpine glaciers advanced to the chagrin of overrun villages. Since the beginning of the 19th Century these glaciers have been retreating. Frankly, we don’t fully understand either the advance or the retreat. …”

Lord Lawson calls for public inquiry into UEA global warming data ‘manipulation’

Lord Lawson, the former chancellor, has called for an independent inquiry into claims that leading climate change scientists manipulated data to strengthen the case for man-made global warming.

“…Thousands of emails and documents stolen from the University of East Anglia (UEA) and posted online indicate that researchers massaged figures to mask the fact that world temperatures have been declining in recent years.

This morning Lord Lawson, who has reinvented himself as a prominent climate change sceptic since leaving front line politics, demanded that the apparent deception be fully investigated.

He claimed that the credibility of the university’s world-renowned Climatic Research Unit – and British science – were under threat.

“They should set up a public inquiry under someone who is totally respected and get to the truth,” he told the BBC Radio Four Today programme.

“If there’s an explanation for what’s going on they can make that explanation.”

Around 1,000 emails and 3,000 documents were stolen from UEA computers by hackers last week and uploaded on to a Russian server before circulating on websites run by climate change sceptics.

Some of the correspondence indicates that the manipulation of data was widespread among global warming researchers.

One of the emails under scrutiny, written by Phil Jones, the centre’s director, in 1999, reads: “I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature [the science journal] trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie, from 1981 onwards) and from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.”

Prof Jones has insisted that he used the word “trick” to mean a “clever thing to do”, rather than to indicate deception. He has denied manipulating data.

Another scientist whose name appears in the documents accused the hackers of attempting to undermine the drive for a global consensus at next month’s Copenhagen summit. …”

Warmist conspiracy exposed?

“…The Hadley University of East Anglia CRU director admits the emails seem to be genuine:

The director of Britain’s leading Climate Research Unit, Phil Jones, has told Investigate magazine’s TGIF Edition tonight …”It was a hacker. We were aware of this about three or four days ago that someone had hacked into our system and taken and copied loads of data files and emails.”…

TGIF asked Jones about the controversial email discussing “hiding the decline”, and Jones explained what he was trying to say….

So the 1079 emails and 72 documents seem indeed evidence of a scandal involving most of the most prominent scientists pushing the man-made warming theory – a scandal that is one of the greatest in modern science. I’ve been adding some of the most astonishing in updates below – emails suggesting conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more. If it is as it now seems, never again will “peer review” be used to shout down sceptics.

This is clearly not the work of some hacker, but of an insider who’s now blown the whistle.

Not surprising, then, that Steve McIntyre reports:

ClimateGate: The Fix is In

“…These e-mails show, among many other things, private admissions of doubt or scientific weakness in the global warming theory. In acknowledging that global temperatures have actually declined for the past decade, one scientist asks, “where the heck is global warming?… The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t.” They still can’t account for it; see a new article in Der Spiegel: “Climatologists Baffled by Global Warming Time-Out.” I don’t know where these people got their scientific education, but where I come from, if your theory can’t predict or explain the observed facts, it’s wrong.

More seriously, in one e-mail, a prominent global warming alarmist admits to using a statistical “trick” to “hide the decline” in temperatures. Anthony Watts provides an explanation of this case in technical detail; the “trick” consists of selectively mixing two different kinds of data-temperature “proxies” from tree rings and actual thermometer measurements-in a way designed to produce a graph of global temperatures that ends the way the global warming establishment wants it to: with an upward “hockey stick” slope.

Confirming the earlier scandal about cherry-picked data, the e-mails show CRU scientists conspiring to evade legal requests, under the Freedom of Information Act, for their underlying data. It’s a basic rule of science that you don’t just get to report your results and ask other people to take you on faith. You also have to report your data and your specific method of analysis, so that others can check it and, yes, even criticize it. Yet that is precisely what the CRU scientists have refused.

But what stood out most for me was extensive evidence of the hijacking of the “peer review” process to enforce global warming dogma. Peer review is the practice of subjecting scientific papers to review by other scientists with relevant expertise before they can be published in professional journals. The idea is to weed out research with obvious flaws or weak arguments, but there is a clear danger that such a process will simply reinforce groupthink. If it is corrupted, peer review can be a mechanism for an entrenched establishment to exclude legitimate challenges by simply refusing to give critics a hearing. …”

“…This is an enormous case of organized scientific fraud, but it is not just scientific fraud. It is also a criminal act. Suborned by billions of taxpayer dollars devoted to climate research, dozens of prominent scientists have established a criminal racket in which they seek government money-Phil Jones has raked in a total of £13.7 million in grants from the British government-which they then use to falsify data and defraud the taxpayers. It’s the most insidious kind of fraud: a fraud in which the culprits are lauded as public heroes. Judging from this cache of e-mails, they even manage to tell themselves that their manipulation of the data is intended to protect a bigger truth and prevent it from being “confused” by inconvenient facts and uncontrolled criticism.

The damage here goes far beyond the loss of a few billions of taxpayer dollars on bogus scientific research. The real cost of this fraud is the trillions of dollars of wealth that will be destroyed if a fraudulent theory is used to justify legislation that starves the global economy of its cheapest and most abundant sources of energy.

This is the scandal of the century. It needs to be thoroughly investigated-and the culprits need to be brought to justice.”

Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of ‘Anthropogenic Global Warming’?

When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential. As Andrew Bolt puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:

Yes, the messages were obtained illegally. Yes, all of us say things in emails that would be excruciating if made public. Yes, some of the comments have been taken out of context. But there are some messages that require no spin to make them look bad. There appears to be evidence here of attempts to prevent scientific data from being released, and even to destroy material that was subject to a freedom of information request.
Worse still, some of the emails suggest efforts to prevent the publication of work by climate sceptics, or to keep it out of a report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. “…At the Villages in Florida, conservative media superstar Glenn Beck unveiled his hotly-anticipated “Plan” — a new direction for his program, and for America that he’d been hinting at on the air.

On Saturday, Beck told the New York Times that from now on, along with hosting his popular tv and radio shows, he “would promote voter registration drives and sponsor a series of conventions across the country featuring what he described as libertarian speakers.”

He also said he planned to publish yet another non-fiction book in August 2010. (Beck’s five previous books have all been NYT #1 bestsellers.)

Already, Mr. Beck’s page on FoxNews.com features what it calls “In or Out 2010,” a “simple challenge” for lawmakers. It includes a pledge to back a freeze in government spending; oppose all tax increases “until our economy has rebounded”; and support stricter immigration enforcement.

Part of the burgeoning Los Angeles rhythm & blues scene of the early 1950′s, the original Platters group consisted of Cornell Gunter, brothers Gaynel and Alex Hodge, Joe Jefferson and Curtis Williams. Formed in January 1953, the original line-up showed several early changes, with cab driver David Lynch replacing Joe Jefferson, Herb Reed (from the gospel group the Wings Over Jordan) replacing Curtis Williams and Tony Williams (introduced by his sister, Linda Hayes) replacing Cornell Gunter. Cornell Gunter went on to play an important part in the stories of the Flairs and the Coasters. His sister Shirley Gunter also sang with the Flairs and recorded with her own group, the Queens, on Modern.

They were signed by Ralph Bass to King subsidiary, Federal Records and, after an un-credited appearance behind Big Jay McNeely chanting the title on ‘Nervous Man Nervous’ (Federal 12141), the group appeared in the studio under their own name in October 1953. One of the songs they recorded was ‘Only You (And You Alone’), written by big-band arranger Buck Ram, who had penned the song for the group that he idolised, the Ink Spots [for more on Buck Ram, see http://www.geocities.com/shakin_stacks/buckram.txt and http://www.thegoldenplatter.com/buckram.html ]

The Platters’ early attempt at ‘Only You’ was considered by label supremo Syd Nathan to be unsuitable for release and was held in the can until late 1955, when it was marketed as a spoiler following the runaway success of the Mercury hit version. Buck Ram had, by this time, become the group’s manager – he also managed other local acts – the Penguins, the Flairs, the Colts, Young Jessie and Linda Hayes. It was his idea to augment the male quartet with the addition of a perky female member of Shirley Gunter’s Queens, Zola Taylor, in early 1954. Shortly thereafter, Paul Robi replaced Alex Hodge, (Gaynel Hodge had already quit the group), and the ‘classic’ Platters’ line-up was in place. …”

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey shows that 62% believe tax cuts are a better way to create jobs and fight unemployment. Only 21% believe that additional stimulus spending is a more effective tool. Earlier this year, as the first stimulus package was being debated in Congress, 62% of voters wanted the plan to have more tax cuts and less spending.

Given a different choice today, 51% believe canceling the rest of the stimulus money would create more jobs while 32% say spending the money would be the better approach to job creation. These findings are consistent with earlier polling. Most Americans say that, generally speaking, increased government spending is bad for the economy. Earlier this year, before the unemployment rate had reached its current highs, 45% wanted to cancel the rest of the stimulus spending while just 36% disagreed. …”

EDITORIAL: National debt projections should be wake up call for our lawmakers

“…This week both the White House and nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued reports painting a bleak portrait of our economy, not just for ourselves, not just for our children but for our grandchildren. The stunningly grim $9 trillion, 10-year national debt forecast, as far as we’re concerned, would seem to preclude any further discussions about adding yet another trillion or so dollars for health care reform, especially if it includes a public option. A recent poll indicates more than half of our nation opposes such legislation, especially if it means more debt.

While much of the deficit spending the next few years is caught up in recent spending such as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act approved under President Barack Obama and earlier Wall Street bailouts approved under President George W. Bush, consider this: Much of the debt piling up after 2013 involves the rising costs inherent in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid as baby boomers retire to their expected rewards.

How on earth can this be the time to add another entitlement program? Does anyone really believe the government’s claim that health care reform will pay for itself, especially when Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid almost certainly will force an overhaul of those programs and/or significantly higher taxes for most Americans? …”

“Female Conservative Derangement Syndrome has spread across the pond. The Observer of London spotlights the “extreme” women in American politics that give them the willies.

Boo!

She is a striking brunette with a decidedly outspoken attitude. She lambasts President Barack Obama as a socialist and has become the darling of America’s right-wing activists who flock to her appearances. She is hated by liberals and loved by conservatives.

Sarah Palin? Not quite. Meet Michele Bachmann, a Republican congresswoman from Minnesota who is being hailed as a new and increasingly powerful voice in American politics.

Bachmann, at 53, is a darling of the so-called Tea Party movement, which has campaigned vociferously against healthcare reform, the economic stimulus package and legislation to combat climate change. Her followers have been behind mass rallies in Washington and smaller ones all over the country. She has emerged as one of the most visible politicians in America, frequently appearing on the conservative Fox News channel, whose hosts often champion her causes.

She is part of an increasingly visible “female brand” of conservatism that is rising in America in the wake of the election of Obama. They include notable syndicated commentators such as Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter, whose dislike for liberals has grown ever more shrill in recent months. And, of course, Palin herself. She is still a giant of the political and media landscape and next week embarks on a book tour to sell her autobiography. It has already sparked a media frenzy, with a heavily hyped appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show, and become a huge bestseller on pre-orders alone.

All these women express a mood of conservative discontent that is becoming increasingly vocal and, some experts warn, extreme.

The Boston Globe reports, “Obama was part of a team of attorneys who represented the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) in a lawsuit against the state of Illinois in 1995 for failing to implement a federal law designed to make it easier for the poor and others to register as voters. A federal court ordered the state to implement the law.” The Globe also notes, “Obama was part of a team of lawyers representing black voters and aldermen that forced Chicago to redraw ward boundaries that the City Council drew up after the 1990 census. They said the boundaries were discriminatory. After an appeals court ruled the map violated the federal Voting Rights Act, attorneys for both sides drew up a new set of ward boundaries.”

With districts redrawn, ingratiating himself to black politicians on his side of the city, and rules loosened on voter registration, Obama could set out to run. And he did. Obama sought the New Party endorsement, which required him to sign a contract that he would keep up his relationship with the New Party.

The end of the story is simple. Obama won the New Party’s nomination and, through fusion with his Democratic votes, he became the Democratic nominee. Using ACORN’s get out the vote efforts and relying on his gerrymandered Democrat district, Obama moved on to the State Senate. While there, he paid back the New Party and the far left. He opposed the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, he opposed legislation that would have prohibited the sale of pornography across the street from elementary schools and churches, and he supported allowing criminals to sue their victims if their victims injured the criminals in self-defense.

Fast forward twelve years and Obama is running as fast as he can away from the New Party brand. But beyond a shadow of a doubt, Barack Obama knew what he was getting into and remains an ideal New Party candidate. The New Party was, and as it still exists is, an amalgamation of the left and far left designed to attract far left candidates and move the Democratic Party back to the left. Barack Obama is an example of the New Party’s success. …”

Carl Davidson is an American Marxist who serves as a national steering committee member of United for Peace and Justice, a field organizer for the Solidarity Economy Network, and co-chair of Chicagoans Against War & Injustice. The latter organization has formed alliances with such groups as the League of Women Voters, Rainbow/PUSH, Citizen Action, People for the American Way, the Progressive Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Aiming ultimately to transform the United States into a socialist nation, Davidson advocates the mobilization of “new grassroots majorities required for progressive, systemic change.”

As a college student in the 1960s, Davidson was a national secretary of Students of a Democratic Society and a national leader of the anti-Vietnam War movement. He received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Penn State University and later found employment as a philosophy instructor at the University of Nebraska, also in the 1960s.

Davidson and Tom Hayden take credit for having launched in 1969 the “Venceremos Brigades,” which covertly transported hundreds of young Americans to Cuba to help harvest sugar cane and interact with Havana’s communist revolutionary leadership. (The Brigades were organized by Fidel Castro’s Cuban intelligence agency, which trained “brigadistas” in guerrilla warfare techniques, including the use of arms and explosives.)

Many years later, Davidson would reflect on his SDS days when he, along with Dave Dellinger and Tom Hayden, had taken advantage of an opportunity to converse at length with President Castro. Said Davidson: “He [Castro] is a remarkable man, with a photographic memory, wide knowledge and keen insights…. We should all wish Fidel and Cuba well, and double our voices against the blockcade.”

In 1988 Davidson founded Networking for Democracy (NFD), an initiative that teaches computer skills and radical politics to Chicago-area teenagers. The NFD program encourages students to engage in “mass action” aimed at “tearing down the old structures of race and class privilege” in the U.S. “and around the world.”

In 1992 Davidson became a leader of the newly formed Committees of Correspondence, a Marxist coalition of former Maoists, Trotskyists, and Communist Party USA members. The organization has since changed its name to the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, where Davidson remains a prominent figure.

In the mid-1990s Davidson was a major player in the Chicago branch of the New Party, a Marxist political coalition whose objective was to endorse and elect leftist public officials. Most New Party members hailed from the Committees of Correspondence (the Marxist coalition cited in the preceding paragraph), the Democratic Socialists of America, and the militant leftist organization ACORN. Davidson first met Barack Obama through the New Party, which endorsed the latter in his run for the Illinois state senate in 1996. Obama had actively sought this endorsement, and he used a number of New Party volunteers as campaign workers.

Davidson quickly became one of Obama’s most ardent political supporters. He helped organize a large 2002 rally where Obama first established himself as an eloquent anti-war spokesman.

A longtime admirer of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Davidson views the Iraq War as an endeavor rooted in American imperialism and ”racism.” In June 2004 he endorsed John Kerry for U.S. President and condemned “the Bush administration’s ill-conceived ‘War on Terror’ [the sneer quotes are Davidson's], its drive to an unjust war with Iraq, and … the ongoing brutal occupation of that country.” Blaming “Bush’s unilateralist, militaristic approach” for having “lost the battle for hearts and minds … in the Islamic world,” he accused the President of using the professed goal of “expanding democracy” as “a cover for U.S. hegemonism and Empire.”

In Davis’ view, “[T]he U.S government, at least over the past 50 years, has been the chief terrorist and sponsor of terrorism in the world. We can never forget that our government has the blood of a million Vietnamese on its hands.” …”

“…Carl Davidson was a leader of the new left in the 1960s and early 1970s. Along with other SDS’ers and Guardian newspaper figures–he was associated with both–Davidson discovered “Marxism-Leninism” in the mid 1970s, which meant Maoist ultraleftist party-building experiments of the sort described by Max Elbaum in “Revolution in the Air.” For the Maoists, a large part of the CPUSA traditions remained valid, especially those that figured heavily during the period when Stalin was dictating policies. This meant accepting the party line on WWII, which tended to blur class distinctions between trade unions and the black community on one side and the American ruling class on the other. Supposedly the war was being fought to defend democracy rather than Anglo-American imperialist interests. Davidson defends this perspective in a comment on “Unrepentant Marxist,” a blog I maintain that consists exclusively of longer posts made originally on Marxmail. He also defends backing John Kerry in the last election. Davidson nowadays is affiliated with the Committees of Correspondence, a group that I belonged to briefly until I discovered how committed they were to working in the DP. With less than three months remaining before the November 4th general election, CCDS members together with all left and progressive forces are urged to work wholeheartedly to ensure a massive defeat at the polls for John McCain and his war-mongering, neo-conservative, right-wing sponsors.

Only a massive turnout of new, young, African American, Latino, Asian American, trade union, and progressive voters casting a ballot for Barack Obama can insure this defeat. We must find ways to argue the stakes inherent in a McCain win on key issues: ending the war, the faltering economy, creating “green” jobs, a sustainable environment, universal health care, and restoring the right to organize unions.

The various smears, racism and fear mongering surrounding the first viable African American presidential candidacy are making inroads among large segments of the public. CCDS members have a role to play in challenging the racism, joining with broad efforts like that of the petition campaign against Fox TV’s racist characterizations of the Obamas organized by the Color of Change. Hip hop artist, Das and 150 others delivered 620,000 signatures to Fox TV’s studios in Manhattan in July.

It is important to find ways to pressure the Obama campaign from an independent platform, and resist efforts to demoralize, sidetrack, and divide the movement to elect Obama. Progressives For Obama (P4O) is one such vehicle. It emerged in March 2008 during the primary campaign and has become a viable voice of critical support from the left, aiming to countervail the growing right-wing pressures on the Obama campaign.

We urgently ask CCDS members to link up with local campaigns and organizations like Progressives for Obama (P4O) to infuse the election campaign with the issues that matter most – and making the campaign at the base a deeply progressive project. …”

Rockwell was closely associated with his teacher and colleague Murray Rothbard until Rothbard’s death in 1995. He also advocates federalist concepts as a means of promoting freedom from central government, and also advocates secession for the same political decentralist reasons. Barack Obama’s Favorite Economist–John Maynard Keynes–A Great Guy?

Listening to the late Murray Rothbard lecture on John Maynard Keynes, I was struck by how both Barack Obama and Maynard Keynes are very similiar.

The arrogance, habitual lying, changing positions on issues on a dime, use of strawmen arguments, elitism, will to power, and ego mania describe both Keynes and Obama.

Both also share an admiration of fascism, communism and government management of the economy.

Outside of that they are great guys.

Economic theory demonstrates that only governmental inflation can generate a boom-and-bust cycle, and that the depression will be prolonged and aggravated by inflationist and other interventionary measures. In contrast to the myth of laissez-faire, we have shown in this book how government intervention generated the unsound boom of 2002-2007, and how Obama’s new departure aggravated the Obama Depression by massive measures of interference. The guilt for the Obama Depression must, at long last, be lifted from the shoulders of the free market economy, and placed where it properly belongs at the doors of politicians, bureaucrats, and the mass of “enlightened” economists. And in any other depression, past or future, the story will be same.”

“…Bernard Madoff’s victims have so far received $530 million in compensation – a record for a securities industry group providing the money, but only a fraction of what they lost in the disgraced financier’s epic swindle.

The total being paid by the Securities Investors Protection Corp., also known as the SIPC, was announced Wednesday during a telephone briefing about the ongoing liquidation of the jailed money manager’s assets and the processing of thousands of claims from burned investors.

Stephen Harbeck, president of the SIPC, said the $530 million exceeded the combined amount from 321 previous brokerage liquidations since 1970. SIPC is authorized by Congress to guarantee brokerage accounts for a maximum $500,000.

On the same call, court-appointed trustee Irving Picard said he had identified $21.2 billion losses in about 2,300 customer accounts. He also said he had approved $4.4 billion in claims, and located about $1.5 billion in assets that will help cover a portion of them. …”

“This will be my last broadcast here on CNN, where I’ve worked for most of the past 30 years, and where I have many friends and colleagues whom I admire deeply and respect greatly.

I’m the last of the original anchors here on CNN and I’m proud to have had the privilege to helping to build the world’s first news network.

I’m grateful for the many opportunities that CNN has given me over these many years. I’ve tried to reciprocate with a full measure of my ability and my energy.

Over the past six months it’s become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us, and some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day. And to continue to do so in the most honest and direct language possible.

I’ve talked extensively with Jonathan Klein — Jon’s the president of CNN — and as a result of those talks, Jon and i have agreed to a release from my contract that will enable me to pursue new opportunities.

At this point, I’m considering a number of options and directions, and I assure you, I will let you know when I set my course. I truly believe that the major issues of our time include the growth of our middle class, the creation of more jobs, health care, immigration policy, the environment, climate change, and our military involvement, of course, in Afghanistan and Iraq.

But each of those issues is, in my opinion, informed by our capacity to demonstrate strong resilience of our now weakened capitalist economy and demonstrate the political will to overcome the lack of true representation in Washington, D.C.

I believe these to be profoundly, critically important issues, and I will continue to strive to deal honestly and straightforwardly with those issues in the future.

Unfortunately, these issues are now defined in the public arena by partisanship and ideology rather than by rigorous, empirical thought and forthright analysis and discussion. I’ll be working diligently to change that as best I can. And as for the important work of restoring inspiration to our great free society and our market economy, I will strive as well to be a leader in that national conversation.

It’s been my great honor to work with each and every person at this wonderful network. I will be eternally grateful to CNN, to Ted Turner, and to all of my colleagues and friends, and of course to you at home. I thank you, and may God bless you.”

With over 25,000,000 Americans looking for a full time job and double digit unemployment rates expected to last into 2011, both unemployment and illegal immigration will be the top issues for the next two to three years.

Lou Dobbs will be covering these stories on television and on the radio.

As a result the open border advocates in both the Republican and Democratic party elites had no love for Lou Dobbs.

Both President Bush and Obama and Senators McCain and Clinton wanted Lou Dobbs to shut-up about immigration and open borders and the impact it was having on the American people.

Lou Dobbs much to his credit did not.

The American people cheered Dobbs on.

Dobbs reflected the views of the vast majority of the American people.

The one issue that apparently struck too close to President Obama was the failure of candidate Obama to produce his birth certificate and Obama’s rigorous and continuing attempt and the expenditure of millions in lawyer fees in the courts to fight any and all attempts to obtain a copy of his birth certificate as well as his college transcripts, medical records, and college thesis.

I had the same reaction as Dobbs regarding the birth certificate.
At first I thought Obama would at some point just release it–no big deal.

The certification of live birth that Obama did release is not a copy of his birth certificate.

This raised the question, “What does Obama have to hide?”

This question has still not been answered.

I suspect several foreign governments know the answer and are using this information to their advantage.

Foreign intelligence organizations are not limited by the courts in obtaining valuable information that can be used to blackmail and influence politicans.

Unlike Dobbs I thinks President Obama is hiding much that he does not want the American people to know.

While the birth certificate issue has been a topic of much discussion on the blogs, talk radio and YouTube–the new media, the birth certificate issue had not been aired by the three major television networks-ABC, CBS, and NBC.

All three major networks have treated Barack Obama as the anointed and worked for his nomination and election.

The one exception has been the Fox network.

“…Lou Dobbs walked away from CNN — and $9 million — under pressure to tone down his rhetoric as the network seeks a more centrist position among the cable news channels.

Dobbs announced his resignation from “Lou Dobbs Tonight” on the air Wednesday night following months of friction between the veteran newsman and CNN brass.

The beginning of the end, the New York Post is reporting, came in July when CNN President Jonathan Klein told Dobbs’ staff in a memo to stay away from so-called “birther” stories about doubts that Barack Obama was really born in the United States.

“It seems this story is dead because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef,” Klein said in the memo.

Dobbs and Klein have been at odds ever since, according to the Post. …”

“…Lou Dobbs, the longtime CNN anchor whose anti-immigration views have made him a TV lightning rod, said Wednesday that he is leaving the cable news channel effective immediately.

Sitting before an image of an American flag on his studio set, he said “some leaders in media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN and to engage in constructive problem solving as well as to contribute positively to the great understanding of the issues of our day.”

“I’m considering a number of options and directions,” Mr. Dobbs added. A transcript of his remarks is available here.

Jonathan Klein, the president of CNN/U.S. said in a statement that “Lou has now decided to carry the banner of advocacy journalism elsewhere.”

“All of us will miss his appetite for big ideas, the megawatt smile and larger than life presence he brought to our newsroom,” Mr. Klein said.

Wednesday’s program will be Mr. Dobbs’s last on CNN. His contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011. He told viewers that CNN had agreed to release him from his contract early. …”
