Daschle Withdraws As Nominee for HHS Secretary

Another One Bites The Dust

Looks like the Limousine Liberal Lobbyist saw the writing on the wall.

Dankeshane

The Republicans were about to pay back former Senator Daschle  for his opposition to many well qualified Republican nominees with no tax cheating issues.

We Will–We Will–Rock You!

What comes around goes around–the right thing to do!

Still, do not be surprised if President Obama appoints him to be the czar or more accurately Commissar for Humans!

Why?

Commissars do not need to be confirmed by the Senate.

If Obama does appoint him Czar or Commissar of Health Care–Republican boots will be walking–

Daschle withdraws: DLTDHYOTWO!

By Michelle Malkin

“…Tom The Dodger Daschle withdraws his HHS nomination. President Obama accepts the withdrawal “with sadness and regret.” Regret that Daschle’s serial evasions caught up with him. Sadness that he didn’t get the Geithner treatment. DLTDHYOTWO!

Obama said Tuesday he accepted the withdrawal “with sadness and regret.”

Daschle has been battling for his nomination since it was disclosed he failed to pay more than $120,000 in taxes.

He said he’s withdrawing because he’s not a leader who has the full faith of Congress and will be a distraction.  …”

Tom Daschle’s other tax problem; Flashback: The Dodger’s wheels in 1986; Update: DeMint calls for withdrawal; Buh-bye!

By Michelle Malkin

“…Tax evader Tom Daschle is a serial dodger.

In addition to all the “glitches” he has apologized to the Senate Finance Committee for, there’s another important episode in his financial history that bears mention.

William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection has the reminder:

In the current controversy regarding Tom Daschle’s failure to report income (and thereby evade the taxes on that income), Daschle has portrayed himself as the most honest person in America, who always intended to pay all the taxes he owes, and who simply made an honest mistake. But history shows that this is not the first time Daschle has dodged taxes, raising even more questions about Daschle’s veracity and fitness for office.

In 2004, during his failed re-election campaign, it was revealed that Daschle claimed a property-tax homestead exemption for his $1.9 million Washington, D.C. mansion. The problem was that in order to claim the tax exemption, Daschle had to certify under penalty of perjury that the mansion was his primary residence. Daschle did so, and got the tax exemption, but there was a problem. Daschle had voted in South Dakota, the state he represented, by absentee ballot, listing a South Dakota address as his primary residence. South Dakota primary residency also was a requirement of Daschle running for office. When the homestead issue surfaced, accusations were made that Daschle or someone on his behalf altered the records to make it appear that only Daschle’s wife has applied for the exemption.

Daschle’s opponent, now Senator John Thune, made an issue of this tax dodge in the campaign, and Daschle was defeated…How much did Tom Daschle save on his homestead exemption tax dodge? A measly $288. Is there any thief more pathetic than a petty thief?

Yes: The other petty thieves in the Senate who have signaled their undying collegial support for Tom the Dodger Daschle. …”

Obama’s Czars

Bob Myer

“…Suddenly a rash of czars is in prospect for the Obama Administration.

The title “czar” in the executive branch has some history.  The “drug czar” title  appeared during the Reagan administration.  The term has always seemed a little strange to me, but that’s probably because the word has a negative connotation in my opinion; an all-powerful, micro-managing type of connotation.  What’s more, after spending a little time participating in the “war on drugs”, it seemed that the czar’s effort was futile and cost a lot of money.

Enter the Obama administration.  As of 12 November, there are many desks with “czar” titles on them to come.  We already have an “intelligence czar”, and it appears that seat is safe.  Does the executive branch need a “tech-czar“?  Apparently.  Who knows what technology might do without direct executive oversight.  With Detroit ready to take some many billions of dollars from the federal government, there’s talk about a “car-czar”.  Some sense in that, because the dollars given will supposedly (under the touted plan) buy stakes in the Big Three for the US Government.  What was that talk about statist expansion, again?

And surely we need an “energy czar” to oversee (micro-manage) the miraculous transition from our current fossil fuel addiction to whatever comes next.  But that czar had better be fond friends with the “climate czar” – and in all honesty, if Mr. Gore takes that spot, there won’t be any spotlight for the “energy czar”, and perhaps little energy, as well.  For that matter, why have two positions?  If one believes Global Warming / Climate Change orthodox teachings, one feeds the other.  On the other hand, two “czars” have two staff, and that’s job creation. …”

BLANKLEY: Obama’s health-care czar

Tom Daschle book lays out plan

Tony Blankley

“…So it is worth reading his book “Critical: What we can do about the health-care crisis,” in which the gracious former Senate leader lays out without equivocation both the policy he recommends and the tactics for how to pass it. He proposes setting up a board to establish standards for health-care delivery that would be modeled on how the Federal Reserve Board and Securities and Exchange Commission oversee banks and corporations. Technically, it would only oversee the public health systems (Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans Administration, etc.) – which provide about 32 percent of health care nationwide.

Mr. Daschle writes: “The Federal Health Board wouldn’t be a regulatory agency, but its recommendations would have teeth because all federal health programs would have to abide by them.” But here is the kicker. Although his board would technically have no say on the 68 percent of health care that is provided through the private sector, Mr. Daschle modestly adds: “Congress could opt to go further with the Board’s recommendations. It could, for example, link the tax exclusion for health insurance to insurance that complies with the Board’s recommendation.”

Those last 19 words would spell the end of independent private-sector health care in America. Obviously, no health insurance would be sold if it was denied the tax deduction. Thus, every policy, every standard decided by this board would be the law of the land for every drug company, every hospital, every doctor, every health insurance company.  …”
